Good hint John I would replace the Cam sensor and clean or replace the MAP and IAT sensors. But I would do all the gaskets. I learned the hard way about the tappet cover seal I installed it the wrong way. I I was that the pickup started but when I oil started running off the side of the block I was miffed.

Liked and subscribed, with my 2000 it only hard starts on warm or hot starts. My fuel pressure is fine. I’m using an Air Dog 100, 15 at idle at least 8 at WOT. 😊

Love the videos man! Is there any situation where you should ever use the throttle to start a diesel? If so, can you show us? I’m curious how someone like you who knows a lot about diesels starts his rigs when they’re cold. Subscribed!

Gearhead to me I have only ever needed to use the throttle is with the older trucks cause they get cold natured. And the newer trucks depending what engine if it’s having trouble starting and idling cause it’s so cold I would recommend like 200 to 300 rpm above ur normal idle rpm letting off often to see if it stays idling by itself. And give it a few mins to get stuff warm and flowing. Hope that answered your question

my dad has a 2000 dodge ram 3500 with the 24 valve cummins and the automatic transmission. the lift pump isnt engaging and causing hard starts. but when the truck starts it runs just fine. what do you think could be causing the lift pump to not engage? the lift pump is a factory replacement

Hello, I have a 99 4x4 24v with the same thing, i must use ether or gasoline trough the turbo to start, sometimes it just start properly but i dont know why, sometimes when the front is higher than the rear it starts properly like uphill, any idea? and if i need to replace vp44 and lift pumps, it would be great if you could tell me where to get it, im near Presidio, TX. Well you did not show what you did to the vacuum pump like how it comes off and how do you know that its bad or not. Please show more 24v content please

The vacuum pump rarely goes out mostly seals leaking. It comes off with 2 bolts to the front timing cover and 1 nut bottom engine side and pulls right back.

At idle my truck is running 22-24 if I get on it real hard it drops down to about 15 but just normal driving it stays around 18-20. Should I lower it down really don’t feel like replacing the vp again
