It is disappointing that the size of the Chin is always touted as being less than 10 pounds, which is based on the abnormal breeding and feeding practices from what should be a bygone era. Chin today, especially in the US, are larger, more athletic, and can weigh as much as 20 pounds! Unfortunately, the healthier, happier, larger Chin are screened out and dissuaded from participating in dog shows where they can serve to update the standard and overall health of the breed - ultimately making them more popular. The larger ones don't have breathing and heart problems like the smaller ones, making them able to excel in agility and rally training because they are more active. Moreover, they make better pets because they can go beyond being lap dogs to taking long walks and playing without tiring so quickly. I also find the larger Chin more friendly, brave, outgoing, and eager to engage in training and new adventures.

Don’t believe it. Good diet, exercise and regular vet visits. The chins I know lived to at least 15 years.
