I have had two shibas now, and absolutely adore this breed. Yes, they can be stubborn, but the loyalty and love they give you makes up for it 1000 fold. Without hyperbolizing or sounding melodramatic, I would absolutely, positively, unequivocally take a bullet for my Shiba’s, because the idea of loosing them just shatters my heart - when I lost the first one, the mental pain, anguish, and overwhelming sorrow was so unbelievably great - that is how much they have imprinted on my heart. Even when I am most irritated and frustrated with my little guy, I can’t stay angry with him long. I become very sad and even cry when I’m away from him too long. His presence in my life so invaluable and adds so much joy and light into my life. To me, my Shiba is truly a priceless gift from god.

Absolutely. Same story here! My first was so independent. He Did get out in the dead of winter. I thought for sure he was a gonner. Apparently he couldn't find his way back to me and ended up 9 miles away at -25° 3 days later at his Mommy's house. Unfortunately on his last excursion he was hit by a car, survived, but had fractured his hips at 11 months old. We'd had pets before but I never cried so hard as the day I had to make That decision. Now my 2nd Shiba is 10 years old, does Not cross the threshold without a leash and still acts like a puppy. 😁👍

The best introduction of Shiba I have encountered so far. My 2 years boy black Mameshiba is now quietly wondering through our house from my son’s room to my bedside to my wife’s couch at dawn and being settled at foot of my wife. I don’t train him, he trained me. He rarely barks. He stares when I eat. He sticks his nose out from small space down below the security wall of balcony to look around all day. He loves to be petted by my right foot on his back. We walk twice a day come rain or come storm or snow. He is my everything.

I had mine for 15 years, she was eventually a good dog but an incredibly difficult puppy/ younger dog. I would definitely not recommend them to anyone who isn't extremely patient and already has experience with hyper dogs... and they can legit dig a hole under your fence in a minute or two and get out. Mine never ran off but she definitely dug out quite a few times

Mine is thankfully not interested in digging his way off the property, but I would never trust him off leash on a walk. And yes, this breed is not for first-time owners. I see more and more of them offered up for adoption and it's heartbreaking. People get them because they "look cute" and don't bother to research the breed. I knew what I was getting into when I got mine as a puppy and still, the first year with him were hell. Even with all the training he got it's still tough even now. I love my dog dearly, but probably wouldn't get a Shiba again tbh.

Great video! Living in Japan for 30+ years I learned that Japanese don't refer to their dog's breed "Shiba-inu". Inu means "dog" in Japanese so it sounds strange to say dog after the breed name. So Japanese will call them just "Shiba" or "Shiba--Ken". Inu can also be read as "ken" in the kanji writing. But it seems that it is not a problem to say Shiba-inu in other countries.
@addsute10 ай бұрын
Many Japanese people say Shinba-Ken. But it is not good. because Shiba is Kun-read and Ken is On-read. So Shiba-inu, Kai-ken and Nihon-ken is right reading.

I can’t help but agree. Unlike other dogs who we welcomed to our family, they really have a heart of gold. My boy Mickey showed me love and attentiveness when I needed him most (have to say he stopped me from hurting myself when I was depressed out of my mind). And oh boy, the fun we always had. He was so smart (not to mention cunning 😂) and lively, he was literally like a blood brother/son who does not speak our language. I’ve never loved anything more in my life. Lost him last May and I am still seriously hurting. Still grieving hard 😞

We love them so much. they are half brother and sister.

I found out all of these issues the hardway. My Shiba Inu's name is Harold & he is now 4 years old and still as energetic as ever. We went thru a really rough patch of him running away several times, scarying the crap out of our family, but we are far more careful now and never allow him off leash outside. Excellent video pointing out all of the big issues you have to deal with this great breed. My other dog is a South African Boerboel and weighs 130 pounds of muscle?! They make a hysterical couple.

As the owner of a shiba-inu I confirm, this is all true I would also add that they very rarely bark. Aside from shiba-scream sometimes, they mostly whine if they are annoyed and want something you don't provide them with, like on the walks or when you temporarily restrict the room where they allowed to be

Most shiba videos on youtube feel automated, This video captures the soul of the breed. I have a 4 year old shiba and there's not one thing i would disagree about in this video. They truly aren't like any other dog you've owned. If you ever get a chance to get one, do it! You' won't regret it. My shiba (Mia) has brought joy back into our household. I loved this video, it made me laugh because everything said is so true. We were fortunate enough to have our last Shiba Inu for fourteen years before her passing. We are now on our second Shiba Inu and they definitely are not a pet for people that crave that cuddling, snuggling dog they almost have that they can take you or leave you personality. That being said you know that they love and would protect you with their life. They are the perfect addition to any family that understand their personality. You're not going to change their personality so if you can't understand or adapt to this breed PLEASE don't adopt or buy one because if you decide you no longer want your Shiba that's heart breaking for them and cruel.

Yep, yep, and, yep. Ours is a Shiba/Shep mix but he does display many of the things mentioned herein. He does have the language you need to learn. If you want your Shiba to do something,it has to be his idea and when he’s ready to do it. He has this special stare too. Maybe it’s something you asthe owner forgot to do? He can def give sass. He’s good groomer. Sometimes does the zoomies. I like how he sounds his horn, or tuba? Sometimes it can be very deep in tone. He usually does that after he comes back into bedroom to wake me up with a lick. Sometimes he’ll pick up his brother’s chew bone or he’ll walk a few steps, drop the bone and expect my husband to pick it up.

I have 2, nothing like cats. Nothing like cats at all. One of mine thinks he's the joker, trickster, the gotcha man! I know he's up to no good because his eyes are sparkling thinking about how he's shocked me. I know. The breeder said always keep them on a leash unless they are in a paddock or your secure garden. This is true. They are the naughtiest kids in the school, but you can enjoy their mischief, as you don't have to worry about them growing up and getting a job! One groomer barred one of mine, because she screamed throughout the entire groom and people were going into her shop to see what she was doing to the dogs. She was not happy, the groomer that is.

Thankfully mine ran to some children & they asked if I wanted them to grab his collar. “YES” as they saw me running fullvtilt around the corner in my bare feet & Ivwas still fast at 30!
