my grand vitara’s rear assembly also fell apart when removing the drum, so this video was helpful. Thanks

Great job showing where the all parts go, especially with that planet sized hub in the way. I just finished working on a 2003 Chevy Tracker with the same setup. Reminds me of trying to build a ship-in-a-bottle. Unfortunately someone before me had worked on the brakes and did who knows what with the pawls. Couldn't find them anywhere and they aren't included in replacement hardware kit.

This is the same exact assembly I have on my 2002 Suzuki vitara (not the grand vitara but the 2.0L that has no info available anywhere). I must have spent hours trying to find a decent diagram or video. Same thing happened to me.. I took off the lowering spring and everything fell off. These brakes do indeed suck. But you are a goat. This 5 year old video saved my ass today. Thanks man.

Excellent job with the camera, it suprise me that there such a huge hub flange thats blocks access to installing the return spring. This is where you need a 16" vice to install on a engineering head, just a slow turn ever 15 min for entertainment.🤣

Jay, truly appreciated your video in more ways than the obvious. Got the rears done thanks to you. Also, I laughed solid for 10 minutes and chuckled the rest of the night after your very right on description of the job ahead. It brought back some great memories of a since past old timer who taught me so much and you dead on caught his real descriptions of drum brake jobs and other great engineering skills of auto makers. Thanks again Brother!

My right side self destructed and most of the stuff is missing from the left side. No wonder the brake pedal had a lot of travel(like the master was weak) but never failed completely. There is no adjuster on the left and it ate the one on the right. Maybe I should split up the left over pieces...

I have a 98 suzuki sidekick. I'm in a bad situation that I'm trying to get out of and this car is my way out. I've paid 4 different guys to fix it and all them did a little work and then quit before it was finished. I sent the last one to get parts for the brakes with the last of my money and I never saw him again. Soo..I'm going to try to finish this by myself. So, probably stupid question, is the part you're turning to show all the parts supposed to turn? Does it turn if only one side is jacked up? Because mine doesn't. And I'm stuck trying to put the adjuster on. Idk where to put the part that actually turns the wheel on the adjuster. Does it clip to anything besides the spring?

Excellent video Jay I found another very good one but it's in Portuguese but a very good video all the same I'm working on the rear brakes of a 1998 Grand Vitara, it looks identical to the set up you're working on in this video It seems to be missing the springs you said didn't come in the spring set, I've only taken the left side apart but the same spring is missing from the right side as well so I haven't lost the left one The left hand brake was locking up and wasn't releasing and those springs look like they'd help the hand brake to release I think the Portuguese fella's video is a slightly later model and uses a different simpler strut/part where those springs go that doesn't have the adjustment at the front of the handbrake strut like yours and mine but other than that it's identical and a very good video that shows the correct order of assembly I'll put up a link to his video👇😔
hahahahaha,i feel your frustration bro! am the same but your video is exelent very helpfull, thanks.
