992 Sport Classic to START My PORSCHE COLLECTION?!

This is the brand new Porsche 911 Sport Classic! I'm at Autowelt Schweiz to experience both the latest 992 gen and the original 997 Sport Classic, back to back, let's see if it's up my street. You could also win a supercar with BOTB 👉 bit.ly/Win-A-Supercar-Or-Lots...
The two cars in question here at Autowelt Schweiz are in fact matching chassis numbers; the same number out of the 250 997 cars and 1,250 992 cars. In both cases there are numerous design links to the legendary 911s of old, mixed into some of the latest tech, especially with the 992 Sport Classic.
We're talking a car that's effectively a manual Turbo; featuring the 3.7l Turbo flat-6 making 550hp and 600Nm (down from the 650hp and 800Nm found in the Turbo S), but crucially also with a 7 speed manual gearbox. Painted in Sport Grey Metallic, there are plenty of golden accents and details on the outside, with the interior sporting both houndstooth inserts and specific green details to the dashboard dials and displays.
After driving the new 992 Sport Classic, it's a quick hop into the 997 Sport Classic, which itself was more a design change as the car was based on the regular Carrera S of the time. However, it's not every day to experience these one after the other!

Shmee150 Absolutely Incredible Head to Head Review I think it's awesome that Autowelt let you drive both gens of 911 Sports Classic and I definitely agree that they aren't worth the 100k extra and I think you should definitely get a 992 Carrera GT3 or GT3RS along with a 718 Cayman GT4RS

I've always wondered something. Where does Puppi go when you switch back to handheld mode? Does she go hang out wherever you are or does she follow you in case things go bad. Here I realize she was in the car obviously, but I've always wondered if she gets to drive the car too, or does she go hang out somewhere and wait.

@@docpj9665 since you’ve mentioned here as well as in a direct reply to me elsewhere, please enlighten us all on this statement from Shmee where he’s “not willing to put up with the chitty way Porsche UK play games, etc…..”? Where was that comment made? He’s typically pretty positive about entities, about people in general so usually ops to say nothing if there’s nothing nice to say. That and he’s mentioned countless times in the last couple of months that he’d love to add a GT4RS to the fleet so not sure what you’re on about with the no Porsches in the near future thing.

Have to agree with Tim here. Clearly this car is meant for the Porsche diehards, but to anyone else - the premium over something like the GTS, it doesn't offer as much bespoke items as it should for the price IMO.

The only time I saw I a sport classic was when I test drove a 997 in a similar colour. I said “I’ll take it, but that one over there, I prefer the colour” the salesman’s face was a picture. “Sir, that one is £250,000 this one is £25,000”. My face must have looked a picture. That’s when I started looking, and really learning about Porsche models.

Agree with Tim. This is a huge cash cow for VAG! Overpriced for what you get. Wait two years and a similar car with this engine and RWD Turbo will be available for us mere mortal plebes at a significant discount when the 992.2 arrives. It’s VAG’s M.O., lol.

Shemee, Enjoyed your back-to-back review. I just looked at one from our local dealer this past weekend. Beautifully done, inside/out. Of course it was already sold. What surprises me on this 992 Sport Classic and considering it's price (not to mention the crazy dealer markup, as much as double, on these pre-sold units), I wonder why Porsche did not build these as Normally Aspirated with a 6-Speed manual. With all the carbon fiber that IS used in the car, could had been a limited edition Sport Classic 992R, just saying. Perhaps you're right, it intension is to be a "clinical drive" 911 Porsche.

The Sport Classic is fairly unique. They took the Turbo engine, toned it down so the manual transmission could handle the power and so they didn't need the side vents.

Tread carefully with the 911 Tim, be aware of woeful interior build quality issues. I have a 992 Turbo S from new, it has taken a year to eradicate the annoying interior squeaks and rattles esp regarding the driver's seat which if you are slightly plump (as I am) WILL squeak badly under acceleration/cornering. I have the full details of fixes etc if you experience the same. Hopefully not!

You know the biggest problem in the UK comes down to insurance. I tried to work out how to insure my STO for doing these kind of mods and over 10 years it would cost me £10,000 more to insure it with a Supercharger than without. For absolute numbers that means around £50k over 10 years instead of £40k. When you factor in the install costs, and then the mods costs, it's just hard to justify that.
