Btw. The Turbo and GT3 cars were Mezger engines, they didn’t have the exact same engine architecture, is isnt that they were “upgraded from the factory”. Also, no 7.2 had IMS bearing issues, perhaps you are thinking of the slightly later 7.1 engine M97 engine that started to come with double rows IMS bearings, which are less prone to fail. Ironically, the very early 2005 997.1 M97 engine with the single row, is fairly easily serviceable and much easier to do the flat 6 “IMS solution” with the direct oil feed kit. It’s still an expensive upgrade, but worth the piece of mind if you plan on keeping the vehicle for the long haul. It’s a genius design.
@leebushen2 жыл бұрын
Worries about 997.1 cars are more about bore scoring issues than IMS. IMS was mainly the 996 I believe. 997.2 don't have either problem (at least 997.2 bore scoring is super rare anyway). That's why 997.2 is so much of a sweet spot before the much bigger 991 entered the scene. 997.2 GTS is a sweet spot within another sweet spot!
@thedevthing2 жыл бұрын
Bore is an issue with the 991s also. We know someone with a 991.1 who had to replace a motor because of bore scoring. It’s more a matter of how the car is being used. Constant cold start and stops without driving the car extensively would cause bore scoring too. 🙌😃
@warrenlucier57966 ай бұрын
@@thedevthing In the 991 & 981 Porsche went to thermal management and some of the engines have had cold seizure issues. The 997.2 & 987.2 didn't, to my knowledge, exhibit this problem.

I can't believe there aren't more aftermarket options to retrofit a PCCB set up without costing an arm and a leg.
@KosmicHRTRacingTeam2 жыл бұрын
PCCBs are over rated for street driving and many at the track don’t like them either simply because the pad and rotor replacement is so expensive. I’ve even got a few buddies with multiple GT3/RS cars that take them off for the standard brakes and store them and bring them back out when the cars is up for sale. But hey, when everyone on the planet seems to want to flex at everything, I guess the yellow Calipers are just another way to make one feel good about themselves. But to be honest, this car is so sick, I wouldn’t think anything more of it with PCCBs. Through a Numeric shifter and a 991.2 GT3 steering wheel in there.
@ericthor66772 жыл бұрын
@@KosmicHRTRacingTeam really great suggestions! Thanks for the feedback, I’ve heard that on the PCCBs… honestly it would be convenience around keeping the car clean. (Given cost and availability id likely go with Giro-disk and ceramic pads).

The kit is very interesting. I mean for one, it's a 10' yr that hasn't gotten the face lifted interior yet, so it's already on the low end of the .2 generation. More importantly, the weird kit with the 996 GT3 wing is a bit much and unnecessary. I prefer the OEM look of the GTS more. Makes it more special to the GTS trim. Not hating, just criticizing the design of choice. If you gave me the keys I'd still probably dolphin dive into that driver's seat lol.

So what mistake did you do to your GTS to force you to sell it? Was it the BBS wrong fitment or the Bilstein coilovers?
@thedevthing3 ай бұрын
Both really. It was not the look I was going for and during Covid it was just a pain to get any shop to do any work. And my impatience got the better of me. I hindsight, I should have been patient and kept the car. 😃😅

@@thedevthing sorry but can you elaborate more because I am in the market for a 997 GTS and I want to get coilovers and BBS wheels. That is the look I am aiming for and I saw your video. Thanks
@thedevthing2 ай бұрын
@lapchoine6600 it depends on how low you want the car to be. I just made a mistake where the coilovers I got were lot much lower than the stock ones I had. I wanted more low. Then with the wheels and tire, the wheels are beautiful, but the tire selection is now I would go again. I want a more stanced look like how Eric has in this video. My setup had beefy tires that was cool at first but it started to dislike how bulky the tires looked front and rear. If I was to do this again, I would get coilovers that went extra low and tires that’d didn’t have massive sidewalls. I might not do 3-piece wheels again as the maintenance was a headache for me 😃😂
@lapchoine66002 ай бұрын
@@thedevthing Ok good to know that Bilstein coils cannot go much lower. So you were maxed out? Also, your wheels looked good so what were the specs you went with? You could have gotten a lower offset wheel and maybe go with 315/30/19 tires vs 325/30/19? How was the front tires? Thanks again for your help on this and wish you had more video on your GTS!!! Also, I am loving your vlogs by the way!!

They didn’t bring the foldable carbon buckets because the gov requires a certain number of tests to approve them and when they go thru the tests, they destroy the seats. They are readily available overseas. And No, the GTS isn’t a “limited production” car and neither is the GT3 or GT3RS (although they are more rare). The 911R, Sport Classic and the Speedsters are true limited production vehicles.

I know I’m whining but I can’t stand it when Porsche owners mispronounce the Porsche name. It’s “Por-sha” not “Porsh”.
