When I heard that theme tune I knew I was up past my bedtime.

I always used to watch this on BBC One in the 90s. Hearing the theme tune sends shivers down my spine. It always used to scare me, and it still does to this very day. After watching an episode of 999, I used to be so scared to walk up the stairs to bed because I had the 999 theme tune playing in my head. This was an amazing show on BBC one. It ended back in 2003.

Every video I see of this show people are commenting the same thing! I thought I was the only one who was terrified of this theme tune as a kid, but apparently we all were lol. This and the X-files theme, I did not want to walk upstairs alone after that.

Lots of comments (and rightfully so) about the chilling theme music. It gave me goose pimples just, as it always did back in the nineties. Don't think I picked up on it as a child, but I'm convinced the composer was heavily inspired by the theme tune to Carpenter's 'Halloween'.

It ran on till 2003 from 1992 I think. Without doubt the greatest real life rescue series of all time. Nothing can beat it.

999 - a Friday night staple from childhood! Epic theme tune. Episodes which scarred me for life but taught me a lot! I'm sure I'm not alone on that front 😅 I liked that Michael Buerk always stated prior to a reconstruction whether it featured actors, real witnesses, the actual rescue team, and/ or professional enthusiasts/ stunt actors. Wish they'd do the same with similar shows like Seconds from Disaster or Air Crash Investigation.

I remember the 999 series well-it was presented by the then newsreader Michael Buerk, of course. It was on BBC1 after the 9.00pm News (as it was then) at 9.30-10.20pm mainly on a Tuesday or Wednesday night. It was produced by BBC Bristol at the time. It showed reconstructions of 999 events. Of course now you have similar series like Ambulance on BBC1; Saving Lives At Sea on BBC2; Police Interceptors; Traffic Cops; and so on on the other channels too. Thank you of course!!

the top three I remember from this show: 1. javelin stuck through schoolboy's head (yes, through his brain) 2. man falling on to a fence spike, impaling him somewhere near the groin 3. boy being chased round a tent and falling, hitting his thigh on a peg. nothing happens, then weeks later he either dies or has a heart attack caused by a blood clot from the artery being crushed by that fall

Ah good memories watching this and strange but true on itv as a kid as both started about 92-93... both theme tunes just bring back those memories as others have mentioned.... we, as in my family, use to turn off the lights in the lounge for both programmes to make it scarier haha

Omg,I remember watching an episode of this on my own i must have been around 10/11 yr olds,it was a car crash and the panel fencing went straight through the mans(drivers) chest scarred me for life it did 💀 i'll never forget it

I do remember an episode of a girl doing a rolly Polly down an embankment in a park and she rolled Into a wasps nest! Nasty!

Yes Ryan I think it’s from the lifesavers series where a chippy owner was badly scolded by the hot fat. I’m a fan of old tv listings from the 90s so I’ll check to see if that ep was from the lifesavers series.

I remember being very young at the time I saw it. I was born 1991 so I must have been aged 4, 5 or 6. it's creepy how i seem to remember it so vividly! Thats all i remember im afraid be fantastic to see it again though poor chap hope hes ok now!

I got pulled in as an extra to the reconstruction and it was very lifelike indeed. Those lads were amazing. By chance I met Isobel a few years later, a brave and lucky girl. And now some irresponsible people disable the 'killcord' while in charge of a boat.....

We've still got a machine which is a combination of video and DVD and you can copy from one to the other. But most big towns will have a business which is able to do the job for you.

@@ajs41 It was terror for a kid - I remember some of the reconstructions - a guy was impaled on a fence when he tried to climb over it, losing pints of blood out of his impaled foot - a family are nearly burnt to death in their home in a house fire - kids nearly electrocute themselves when they think a wire fence is fine to touch - the list goes on, imagine what this does to a 7 year old watching in 1992? Scared me shitless.

Looking back, this was actually a great series on the whole but after a while, hearing the theme tune is more annoying than scary. I actually think the series was only really scary because of the theme tune but how many times did they need to play it before it got annoying? Otherwise the series was just as dramatic as it needed to be.

On the one hand that camcorder is a lot smaller than they were just a couple of years earlier, but at the same time my family bought a camcorder just a few months after this and it was quite a bit smaller. The sizes of them was changing very rapidly around this time.
