Simply one of the most extraordinary piece of music ever recorded live. Young Dave Holland plays the fundamental role (did he know ?) of gluing all the loose parts into a brilliant performance that broke all the (then) known parameters of jazz-rock & fusion.

I was at this and it completely blew me away. I had never heard Miles Davis, or even of Miles Davis. But this was unforgettable. Roll forward 40 years and I was working with Jack DeJohnette and his band at the Sydney Opera House on my live show of the film "Tribute to Jack Johnson" (from which the album)... I think I may even have impressed myself !

I’ve only been getting into Miles Davis and jazz in general for less than 2 yrs, but I think this was his true genius. An undisputed master of the old school, he wasn’t afraid to move ahead with the new. While the great majority of his contemporaries had nothing but lambast for the youths’ innovations, disgusted at how their precious art form was getting mangled, Miles saw the merit in what they were doing and embraced it. And both he and they were the better for it.

Dayum. This still sends chills up my spine. Call it Anything is a correct title for this jam. Miles not only was a great jazz musician, he was a great musician period. Bitches Brew not only influenced jazz, but rock as well. In fact, it played a huge role in the development of funk as well.

Love it at 33:57 when those two guys turn their heads in disbelief when Miles walks of the stage and the rest of the band still freaking out! Then at 35:04 Miles returns to check out the crowd - you can almost hear him say 'Damn - I knew I was right!' Whoever has remastered and cleaned up the sound has done a fantastic job on this.

Still one of my favorites. So much goodness wrapped up in this performance you don't know where to start. lol...IF I were talented enough to be backed by Jack, Chick, Keith, Aireto and Holland, as soon as I reached the wings I'd say: "Alright, Lord...I'm ready to go." (R.I.P., Miles and Chick.)
