Retro-Bit has translated its awesome officially licensed Sega controllers to a 2.4GHz wireless version! A new wireless controller is available for both the Sega Genesis and Sega Saturn. As an awesome added bonus, Retro-Bit has also included a USB receiver to let the controllers be used on numerous USB equipped devices including PC and Switch. Every platform I tested the controllers worked like a charm and there were even some moments that caught me off guard! Seriously, these things work on Windows 98! Who would have guessed that 2.4 GHz controllers in the here and now would work on a 20-year-old OS? These new Sega controllers really are Retro-Bit's love letter to the Retro community and I expect these controllers to see support for a good number of years! In Mega Drive's case, this isn't the first time one could that console wirelessly. Sega themselves back in the day released wireless controllers for Mega Drive, albeit those ones require an IR receiver to work.

Great review! Between the Genesis and the Saturn 2.4 GHz versions, which one would you recommend ? I loved the dpad feeling of the original Genesis 6 buttons controller released 27 years ago and I long to find a same quality dpad. I don't possess anymore my Genesis, so it's mostly on be used on PC and Switch.

The Sega Saturn D-pad probably wasn't working with those PS1 games because the D-pad was assigned to the left analog stick on a Dualshock controller. If you could assign the Sega Saturn's D-pad to a PlayStation D-pad that might fix the issue as not every PS1 game had analog support. Just a theory.
@ArchadesGames4 жыл бұрын
That wasn't the reason as I tested that myself.

You saying that Saturn 2.4g doesn’t work on PS1 software on PS3? Have you updated the firmware? Works fine for me. I can play Mega Man X4 and the Last Blade at a breeze with this, I just need to set up the appropriate button configuration depending on controller (I’m a controller nut) and set to your liking. I dislike the default macro because it’s confusing and can throw you off at times, luckily you can change that. I think that Retro-bit’s Sega controllers are way better for PS3 and Switch than the BrawlerGen because it doesn’t have that button macro thing. Whatever button configuration I don’t like (worst case scenario: the game doesn’t have a button configuration setting), I use the CronusMax, I really want to buy it and try this out on my PS4. I’ve got one small nitpick with these controllers is that their buttons are slightly different (on the face) feeling than their wired counterparts and can be somewhat a hassle to connect to the receivers but other than that, I love the 2.4g controllers!

Any idea how much latency the Retro-bit 8-button 2.4g Arcade pad has when connected to a Genesis? The 8-BitDo M30 2.4g can jump anywhere between 2ms - 6ms. If Retro-bit's 8-button is higher than that, then I'll probably just roll with the Kritzz Joyz 2.4g, since the M30 imo feels a bit too crammed.

correct me if I'm wrong please...but I don't see a way to map the buttons for the Nintendo Switch. Yes you can do it in individual games (like Sega Ages game menus) but if I want to play "Sega Genesis Classics" for the Switch I have to use the preset button layout with no way to change it. I think that sucks because when bought this I wanted to play that exact collection on the switch but the button layout doesn't work well. I would just rather play with the pro controller. Disappointed.

any idea if they will work in "wired" mode (ie. connected via usb)..? Also - do they sell receivers alone (so that I can play Genesis games with Saturn controller without buying another controller...?
@ArchadesGames4 жыл бұрын
These ones require the reciever to operate. At the moment, the 2.4 GHz recievers aren't sold separately. Retro-Bit has stated this could possibly change in the future.

I am aware of how Retro-Bit conducts business and am therefore 99.99% confident that they did not pay you a dime, hence why I legitimately feel embarrassed on their behalf; these types of excessively positive videos can't help but make the average person wonder if money has been exchanged. Ultimately, I'm just annoyed that I wasted 13 minutes watching a so-called "definitive review" that fails to cover basic operations; I am having issues and foolishly assumed that your video would be of assistance. Pro-tip: next time you do a review, maybe show a bit of set-up instead of being going ga-ga over a silly thank you note.
