I'm a big admirer of Ubiquiti, but I recently moved to a new house, and I'm on a limited budget. The alternative, which is three times less than Ubiquiti, is Omada, which I've been using for a year and a half. It's less buggy and easier to set up.

I found the same thing Unifi too many problems. no updates breaking things and having to reboot or factory rest stuff to get it work right again.

Looks like a great setup. I've never used Unify or TP-Link but it seems like it's a solid thing. For the time being I'm using a MicroTik router, Zyxel GS1900-24 switch and some Zyxel mesh access points. It works fine but I'd love to have the 2.5Gbit network that you have shown here. Thanks for the walkthrough.

I share my wifi with my neighbours and I am able to manage the network on and off premises via cloud controller. Its fast and super intuitive. The dashboard is what I admire the most. And as an IT who has used unifi for about 2 yrs. I think omada offers more capacity for customising urbnetwork and its just as good as unifi in terms of monitoring and management

It's good to see Unifi have some competition. Judging from the GUI, Amada looks to be about where Unifi was 5 years ago. I wish them success, as the cost of Unifi is not insignificant.

I am confused, if your vpn router only allows gigabit speeds how would the 2.5g switch be of benefit? Isn't the router a bottleneck for that?
@ragtop50

It's of no benefit for internet speed if you have Gigabit or lower internet, but the 2.5G switch will allow faster speeds between on network devices such as a NAS or any media servers.

Not happy...I really wanted to own all these devices, do exactly what you done but found out from TP link customer service that my ISP "sky" wont authenticate the DHCP on the TP VPN router...wtf...then the customer service person said you can change your subnet and get it to work that way. Problem with that is, (double NAT) However, some people have double NAT and experience now latency issues or connectivity issues. I cannot bridge either...so....wtf....HELP! I have just bought into another contract with shtty sky for 12 months so i cant back out now and im over my time limit to cancel. Been told from TP again that i could purchase archer router that does support the dhcp through a menu drop down list called (sky mer) BUT!!! what is your service provider?? and how have you managed to set up all this perfectly okay? dont tell me...BT....==

Nah! not even close. There's something about Ubiquiti that captures its users. It's from the moment you receive the equipment and start opening them and the whole experience to the very end. Ubiquiti is very much like Apple products which I'm a fan of as well. Just listening to that switch fan noise is enough to for me to say nope.

@@InsideWire no, it was quite easy. and we are really suprised by the performance, the reason was the price, ubiquity have got so much expensive over the time, so when we needed to upgrade, it was a perfect choice for us. we have two location, both were running on ubiquiti devices, some of them where old 2,4 ghz. so we moved all the ubiquity pro ap to one location and have build a new instalation based on omada on the second and they perform great. the truth is, we are not using any advanced features, but for the level we need they are comparable and omada is cheaper
