There is a tiny notch in the rim where the dist cap sits that should be #1 position reference. It looks like yours is maybe 1 tooth past anti-clockwise? At 12:07 the notch is visible just to the left of the connector body. It's very tiny. Not certain. Distributor work has always been my nemesis. Anyway, sound better than before! Mine is set to the Volvo spec with a timing light and pings like this too, only at startup or in a very high load / low rev situation and on 95RON fuel. Might dial it back a little. Good video, I like how it's straightforward and to the point and shows what the original fault sounds like.
@Involvod Жыл бұрын
Thanks! That's good to know, mine pinged way less after this video but there was still a tiny bit, I tweaked the distributor a bit more recently which seems to have helped even more, but I just borrowed a timing light and plan to check it in the next couple of days 🤞

Im suspecting a timing issue on my 1990 240 but I don't really know. When starting it misses horribly and sounds like it's a 2 cylinder but after like 30 seconds it fixes the idle almost entirely to where it runs normally and as of recently it's been getting worse to where when I press the accelerator it sounds like the engine tries to die before starting to accelerate.
@Involvod2 жыл бұрын
If it's just on startup, especially cold start I'd be suspecting the coolant temp sensor or something, or maybe even leaking injectors 🤔
@Gothamauto3 жыл бұрын
I don't have any magic tricks for the stuck distributor. In pre-environmental regulation days, a shot of freon was said to do the trick. But then that's why we're in this mess now, isn't it? In any case, I wonder if after removal, a bit of sanding on the distributor where it meets the block might not make it easier to remove the next time. A blob of antiseize wouldn't be a terrible idea either.
@Involvod3 жыл бұрын
Haha, I think the general consensus is soaking them down with penetrant for a couple of weeks. I did sand it down with some wet and dry and slapped some grease on the mating surface too, it's amazing how stuck it got considering it didn't look too bad at all
@Involvod3 жыл бұрын
Oh and the penetrant I used was a cold shock one, -30c it said, so a similar effect. I've been using it on all sorts lately it's been amazing, I think it's why I managed to crack off all 4 caliper bleed nipples without breakage!
@huwdavies66502 жыл бұрын
At least you didn't go the full HubNut on it and shear the entire distributor off leaving the remainder completely seized in the block.

hey man I'm also working on my b200e kjet 240, trying to fix my ignition. I'm kinda of a newbie in mechanical stuff so i missed the part when you inserted the screw driver in the spark 1 socket, what was that for? is it safe to turn the pulley as you did? what are the odds of breaking my engine? I know from the green books that i have to set my timing to 10° BTDC at idle, can I get this done without the stroboscopic light? Greetings from Peru
@Involvod3 жыл бұрын
Hey, I've never worked on the k-jet systems, so sadly I can't be of help, all I can say is I heard they can be tricky to work on, but when dialled in right they are great! The screwdriver was so I knew the piston was at top dead centre, for rough timing reference, but then afterwards I saw the timing marks on the crank pulley that show that, also Mortimer commented on this video that there's a little notch on the distributor body too
Жыл бұрын
I heard that on B200k cannot be adjusted ignition, the same I thing on B200E. It adjusts automatically by electronics. But I am Curious what happens if you still turn distributor, nothing?

So whats the solution for the piston slap. J have the same car trying to figure it out. The fuel regulator is only 2years old…
@Involvod2 жыл бұрын
A thicker oil can help, and also a slightly hotter thermostat helped me, as the noise should get less or ideally go away when hot. But the good news is it's nothing to worry about, before I replaced those things this car had extreme piston slap for potentially over 10 years, it's totally fine, great compression, doesn't burn oil etc
@Involvod2 жыл бұрын
Also you will find online that many people have had piston slap for hundreds of thousands of miles, it's never an issue :)
