Diagnosing running issues on Rosalie the Volvo 745 Wagon, some/all of which caused by me. After a quick OBD-1 code check and a closer look I find the issue. Then take to wiping the engine bay by hand with Dasty degreaser which works a treat!

Excellent job you did there and that's how I'd do it, certainly first time round (you can always clean more small spots later). Our Sweede also has some dents in the roof but we left them and only focused on paint damage.

That engine bay detail was absolutely a labor of love. Even on a car that's not a long term owner, you're still going to go the extra mile to keep it in tip-top shape! I have a lot of respect for that. Great video as always! That cleaner is amazing!

@@iridiumvalkyrie9017 I removed the battery from my car and then strapped a plastic bag over the alternator. Then after i had cleaned my engine bay i waited about 24 hours with the hood open to make sure the engine bay was dry before i installed the battery again in the car.

Don't be too hard on yourself! I chased a high idle on my 240 for weeks until I discovered that when I had cleaned the throttle body I had somehow folded the gasket upon installation, creating a tiny air leak. I felt adequately foolish yet delighted all at once! She's looking much better!

Remember when a commenter said that disconnecting the battery deletes all long term learn data from the ECU? The ECU fighting against whacky data was all I was thinking when she wouldn't fire up in the garage, didn't expect the king lead lol. If it's any consolation that exact screw-up swapping the plugs has been performed by yours truly in the past too :D

Yoi did a great job fella, you were logical and sorted it really quickly. I remember my first 740 - or more correctly when my grandad owned it before me… it had the B230K engIne and the carb had issues later in life with vapour lock, etc. eventually Volvo actually replaced the carb under warranty. The only other issue we had was the ignition coil started failing intermittently which gave the same sort of symptoms- would start and run fine, only to randomly cut out after say 10 miles.

@@Involvod yeah oh well, no rush man since its mainly aestetichal. That's a great project further on, build up a nice renovated FK for Lili (if you don't go RHD of course). @@Buffalobulltofta I definitely thought about it but I'm way too attached to them. From what I hear it's getting tricky to find a decent 240 over there, I've seen a few nice early 7's like Elsa come up for sale cheap recently, but I'm stuck with her anyway after gluing those floor panels in 😄

They should design the loom so that either the wrong plugs won't reach or if they need to be close they are of differing designs. I also wish they would fit blanking caps to plugs that are not in use on the lower spec. cars,

Sounds similar to what’s going on with my car. Every since I cleaned the PCV box, I have had a slight hesitation on acceleration from 0. I’m guessing a vacuum leak somewhere, but I haven’t found it.
@Bassalicious
@Bassalicious 2 жыл бұрын
the PCV system can be annoying, that's for sure. If your car doesn't idle any higher than before the work you did it's likely a leak would be between the MAF sensor and the throttle body or less likely between the PCV box and the block. A handy trick to find vacuum leaks is to spay brake cleaner on areas you think there could be a leak and listen for engine RPM changes.
@Involvod
@Involvod 2 жыл бұрын
I normally use carb or throttle body cleaner (when I can find it) it will drop the revs/kill the motor when you spray into where it's leaking which helps you really pin point it exactly. I find it takes me a bit longer with brake cleaner but definitely does the trick
