My father was killed by a drunk driver in 1986 who was 3 1/2 x over the limit. He was killed instantly when a drunk cont in a Range Rover hit my father at 100mph. He was sent down for 24 months. My father was 44, my mother was 43. She is 81 now and has never recovered from the loss or shock, it has destroyed her on every level... I am 63 now, and often cry when I am alone and think of him, or hear a song on the radio...The cont that did it, was released from prison and carried on with his life as if nothing had happened. BTW they are not Drink Drivers...................they are DRUNK DRIVERS.

It's not just confined to drink and drugs, I regularly see people drinking,eating,applying make up,reading,shaving,texting,phoning,watching tv etc. for which there are absolutely no mitigating circumstances. People all doing anything but concentrating on the road,it''s a callously selfish attitude and one that deserves harsher punishments.

I'm so very sorry for your and your family's loss it must be so very dreadful your little girl taken from you all by someone so irrisponsable. I knew a young lady in southern Ireland she was my brothers best friends wife. My mum was her little boys babysitter. I also knew her from visiting my mum. Her husband was a garda that's Irish police he was one of the presidents officers. She was parked at red lights a truck crashed into her knocked her into to lines of traffic. She died 5 minutes after arriving at hospital her 5 year old son died 4 times but was brought back his right leg has, slight damage he will always limp while walking he has partial sight in his right eye and has some brain damage. The driver of the truck was texting his wife in Poland whan he hit her. He got off with virtually nothing his wife was telling him how is his daughter was she was in hospital after having her appendix removed 3 days before. He got sympathy. This mother lost her life her 5 year old sonm nearly lost his life and he lost his mum and has life changing injurys. Her husband lost his wife nearly lost his son and has to care for his son for the rest of his son's life. Because of a text. I think texting drinking and drug driving should have years of jail timg at least 40 years and never be allowed to drive again.

I can imagine. Like this one, the car pretty much folded in half, not a lot of protection in that direction. Tough extrication. Mine was a motorcyclist who ran a stop sigh crossing a highway every day on the way home from work. His mates weren't far behind him. One day, there was an elderly couple coming and got him 90⁰ at speed. I had to check for pulse, and his body just jiggled like a bag of jelly. We thought the couple were going to have heart attacks. That call sticks with me the most I figure. Even the one where the suspect and police officer were still armed and shot doesn't stick the same as that one.

Yup. My Mother is the same. She sinks a bottle or two of wine every night, but thankfully never drunk drove. Ever. She lost her most beloved 18 year old cousin to a drink driver in 1989, 2 daulys before Christmas, and she never ever recovered from that. She is retired now, but held incredibly senior positions in a recognisable global company, all the while being a functioning alcoholic. It's actually remarkable how well lots of people hide a chronic, terminal addiction to alcohol.

North Yorkshire Traffic police are amazing, I had a seizure while driving back to my boat mooring where I live, it happened as I turned to go down the towpath, I shot across the canal, hit a tree on the other side and started to sink. I have no memory but another driver saw it all happen, they stopped to call 999 and up the road 1000 yards away was a police vehicle (I would have passed it), they saw the stopped car and drove down to see why they had stopped on a single lane bridge over the canal, within seconds an officer called Ben dived in, swam across the canal, got me out the now nearly fully under land rover and saved my life, oh and it was mid February and 9pm so very cold and dark too. His partner climbed a 12 ft fence to get to us to try to keep us warm, fire service came and cut through fence and I went into a police van to strip off and get dry clothing on till an ambulance arrived. Ben came to visit and we chatted on my boat for a couple of hours, he and his partner were just amazing that night saving my life. (there is a bit of video of it being lifted out the canal on my channel.)

That entire incident seemed very odd to me. The breathalyser was inconclusive, then the evediantial machine failed. His conviction was then for not providing a sample which also seemed odd. Possibly he had been drinking spirits on an empty stomach, which can lead to dehydration, causing alcohol to concentrate in the bladder. He had purely been stopped on information which also puzzled me. Would someone in a pub seeing a guy quietly sitting down and having a couple of drinks, follow him to his car, note the registration and report him to the police unless their was an agenda. I suspect that the person reporting him had an unrelated grievance, either work or domestic. The way that he wanted to get away from it all also raised my suspicions that he had something to hide. Hopefully not, but he reminded me of the way some people go into denial when they are diagnosed with a cancer. His inability to be able to provide a venous blood sample raise my suspicions still further.
@Indoor_Carrot
@Indoor_Carrot 2 ай бұрын
@wilsjane roadside breath tests are only a screening device for officers to decide on arresting someone or not. A court needs the more advanced machine in the station as its more accurate. If that fails they will try blood samples or urine. Also, as a paramedic, sometimes getting a vein can be difficult if the patient is dehydrated or has fatty arms.

The drunk driver and passenger did a runner but were caught by police. As the firefighters doused the flame they saw a charred body trapped in back seat (it was a 2 door coupe). @@jamespires3383 It's about making them think by showing them what happens when they don't think. And you can't use edited and made up events for that. People that you want to start thinking has to know that they are looking at the real deal, because they won't bother when they believe it's just a movie or something. I got hit by a drunk driver doing 55 mph in a 90 degree turn when I was a young man in my early 20's. And I was a first responder in ambulances at the time. Well, this driver put an end to that career. And I had already seen some examples of what happens when they go wrong before that. I drive a lorry today, and I still see it happen on rare occasions, and the mayhem they cause to both themselves and others. In my opinion, watching these things should be mandatory for drivers. Not just the drunk ones, but everybody stopped without a lisence or insurance or with a dangerously maintained car etc. Because they are litterally gambling with the lives of others. And you might want to say that not having a lisence or insurance isn't dangerous in and of itself, but the point is that if that's the case and an accident happens with injuries or fatalities, the victims will have no help or compensation other than the immediate treatment in hospital, effectively leaving them much worse off if they are disabled or out sick for a long time that can cause them to be fired from their jobs, not to mention the trauma received if it is a bad accident that has a lot of blood and screaming from injured people.

They pulled CCTV from multiple premises, plus used ANPR to trace the movements of a drunk driver (which could have been confirmed through autopsy alone) but when my sister was the victim of a hit and run, despite getting the guy’s number plate and car description, they refused to check any CCTV or traffic cameras because it wasn’t a priority, since there were no serious injuries. The guy then lied about the hit and run and because the police refused to secure independent evidence, he got away with it, leaving my sister with an at fault accident on her insurance record. Cops were too busy putting on a pointless show for the cameras, rather than work on a case where some investigation would have actually made a difference in dealing with a dangerous driver. 👍

Police came, took statements from her and her passengers, plus the other driver. They believed her and suspected the other driver was lying. She had hassle from the hire company and had to pay costs. Months later the police failed to prosecute the other driver because they 'lost' the evidence. Typical police farce. She got some compensation from insurance in the end but could have done without the hassle and minor injuries.

My son’s father, my ex, was in the TOG in Australia, so they do mainly highway patrol, accidents, chases, etc., and are highly trained drivers. We both worked for the police, but separated when our son was 2. One night, when my boy was 3, his father turned up at the house, quite distressed. He had been to a double fatal and a young boy, the same age as ours, had been terribly injured and had died immediately. My ex just wanted to hug his son, who was asleep in bed, as what he had seen was truly so awful that I am not writing it here. He sat with him then went home. It’s no wonder that so many first responders suffer from PTSD, they see things that never leave them. The sad thing is that he has not bothered with his only child for 8yrs now, and even before that was not a great father to his son. You would think that what he had seen would make those he loved more precious, it certainly did to me. I would die for my son, his father would not.

I know quite a few law enforcement officers here in the states and a lot of them have seen some stuff that made them do exactly what your ex did. Not to get too graphic, it's pretty disturbing, no matter how I write it out, but one officer had to deal with a drunk driver who plowed into a group of primary school aged kids crossing the street. If it had happened a year later there are good chances that his son would've been hit heading to school because of the proximity of his house to the scene.

I was with AFP for 11 years before being accepted by an ambulance service. I was stationed in a small country town that was a 14 hour drive from where my kids lived with the ex. One afternoon we got called to a single vehicle rollover. Five children and one adult, all with critical injuries bar one. An 8 year old boy (same age as my youngest) was ejected and died on scene. What made this case worse, was that there was just one ambo and one copper on shift in town. I had to get the local GP and head hospital nurse to come by taxi to assist. That 8 year old looked just like my son. I couldn't hug him until a week later when I was on days off and drove down to him. The young cop had only been in for a couple of years and I think looked to me for guidance sometimes. The whole incident rocked the whole town.

At the time of the crash, he was on his way home from the pub when he lost control of his vehicle on the B6165 near the village of Nidd on the 28th November 2014. As well as being twice the legal limit for drink driving, he wasn't wearing his seatbelt. The problem with that approach is that there are things other than alcoholic drinks that can result in a small level of blood alcohol. @@sarkybugger5009 They rarely shoot drunk drivers...I've never heard of someone who got shot for driving drunk.

@@naomispencer3246 Where I live in the US, they don't have the kit to get a sample of breath at the roadside. They do have a series of physical tests they ask the person to do to determine if they have been drinking...walking on a line for 9 steps then turning around to return, balancing on one foot while holding up their other foot for 30 seconds, following a pen only with their eyes...those are the ones I've seen.

That main story about the young guy being killed, should make people think. There's no guarantees that when you leave for work, that you will be home that night. Life is so unpredictable. Always tell those you love that you love them. Also, take a minute to think not of this life but the next......

A Mitsubishi FTO, very fast tiny car. Has absolutely no protection in the event of a crash.

cant say it dont got protection its a car from 90s and compared to a compact car of today it lacks protection but yes the times i got to talk to owners of FTO they say its a nimble fast car but it can be twitchy in some situations. in the case of the video bad tires high speed and wet road is a disaster eaven if the car would be driven at normal speeds.
