Awesome awesome video Greg A, I agree 100% on the reason for the use of fluid damper, you swear by them, and the power I’ve seen your trucks put out over the years, I’ve not seen any issues from them yet. If they’ll handle your power levels, they’ll handle anyone else’s.

Can i ask what SFI is? I guess something about spinning stuff
@ivansnyderiii28154 жыл бұрын
SFI is a not for profit safety sanctioning body used in most motorsports sanctions. SFI 18.1 in particular relates to harmonic dampers/balancers and their structural integrity. To pass 18.1 the balancer must be spun to 13,000 rpm (+/- 500 rpm) for a minimum of 1 hr. without degrading/separating.

Aren't 6.7 dampners already the fluid style as opposed to the early style 5.9 which was a composite style prone to failure. From my understanding the oem 6.7 dampners are fluid design and a lot of guys swap them into they're 5.9s
@ivansnyderiii28154 жыл бұрын
6.7 OEM balancers are viscous style. However, they are not Fluidampr nor SFI rated. Fluidampr's sister company Vibratech invented viscous dampers in 1946 for heavy duty diesel applications (Class 8, gen-sets, locomotive, etc.). Unfortunately, there are offshore imposters that are not held to the same quality standards. For a 6.7 damper to work on a 5.9 all the serpentine drive accessories would have to be relocated as the belt location is different.

Banks just did a video on this in one of his unboxings. So the crankshaft is what takes torsional loading as the connecting rods push down. This results in vibrations going up and down mostly ... so what? you'll fudge your bearings up big time without one. Fluidampers help counter that torsional loading that creates vibrations. I didn't really understand this until I saw Banks video... dudes too smart and explains it in a way that make sense.
