Stacey Dooley is back with more Sleeps Over! Stacey continues to explore a cross-section of society by spending 72 hours in the company of six unique households. From sleeping in the spare room to sharing family meals and going on outings, she will get involved in every aspect of their lives in a bid to understand them and the community they represent!
Stacey Dooley sleeps over at the home of the Sedile family, where Lillian, a mother of two, is a member of the growing community of 'tradwives' - a group of women who have rejected career ambitions in favour of becoming the archetypal traditional housewife. Stacey joins Lillian and her husband Felipe, 'the boss' of the household, as they celebrate 10 years of marriage. Stacey will question if this promise to obey their husbands makes these women as happy as they suggest.

What I find interesting is that she didn't start off as a trad wife... There are enough women who always wanted to be trad wives. Yet, he didn't pick one of those women. Running a home, building good family life and bringing up children well is like having a small business; maybe the husband wanted an intelligent & capable business partner? Choosing a reliable partner in this mission is essential, for both the husband and the wife. Women with higher education make better mums bc they are more able to find and process relevant information about children’s wellness. Also a woman with a higher education are usually well organised and disciplined. A woman that could have had her own career don’t view the man merely as money machine. There’s some security with a wife that could at any time step out in the workforce in a situation of distress such as husband having an accident or illness and not able to work or if the husband find himself in between jobs

@@acfatemi He could have done so with a woman who had traditional values. There are women out there with degrees who are looking to be stay at home wives after college for instance. @@ghhm2705 I see what you are saying. I def think becoming a mother/parent can change your perspectives on the work life balance. But what had me come to this conclusion was more how she expressed that he had to coach her into it. And that if she would have made a similar salary to him she would have continued working. That is what has me worried. Also that he wants to have a final say in what she wears etc. It comes across as controlling which he seems to enjoy.

@@d.m.3753 🤔obviously it is something I am missing here. Is the husband really dominant or just showing off according to his cultural heritage? To me it seems that the wife is controlling everything behind a silent smile ( I know a chinese lady like that, one of my best friends). Sometimes people act in public according to the dominant ideology of their society (I’ve seen this in my life): in Sweden a wife would say that she & husband share all the housework though she in fact does much more than him, in Spain (some years ago) the wife would be boosting that she does everything and then You see the neighbour husband doing the dishes when door is open for a moment… It is always difficult to know what is really going on… However, selling an idea of a dominant husband with the rest of the family in submission might be dangerous. So, what is the difference between a ”tradwife” and a traditional housewife? I don’t get the nuance you seem to imply???

It seems like the only way this marriage could be healthy is if the husband and wife respected each other. There are WAY too many ways this could end in abuse or long built resentment. I’m not saying it can’t work, but it would take a worthy partner. Being vulnerable CAN be bad, if you are vulnerable with the WRONG person. Someone who does not have your best interest at heart. It scares me how easily this could become unsafe 😢❤ That being said, they both seem to feel safe and valued. So good for them 🤷🏻‍♀️💜 I think having two partners who can interchange roles based on household needs is best. It seems these days with so much environmental/economical unrest it is SAFEST for both partners have the means to work. How much, where, to what extent, should be up to the couple. Albeit, that can be tricky ❤ I worry about consent in sexual relationships here…………

I don't find that this has to do entirely with being a stay at home mom. Many people and as others commented on here, have that setup and are not having their husband choose their clothes, etc. He comes off as very dominant and i don't find it a normal family dynamics. The punishment seems excessive, i believe these kids will grow with a lot of personal issues. It is so sad to see the little girl like this. And, as we all know, our most personal relationships will have a great impact in our well being. I don't think that this is about a balanced partnership but more that he found someone who will blindly follow him.

As a little girl, I never dreamed to be a mother and wife. I didn't know what I wanted to grow up as. I don't take pleasure in doing housework. I feel blessed to be where I am; I'm truly content as a single woman without any children at home. My day job I actually care for other people's kids and I'm good with that. I do believe everyone dreams of being saved. Knight in shiny armor is just something representative of that idea. Jesus Christ is that knight in shiny armor. She is not wrong. But to put that hope in your husband or your being used by God are both not the real point. God Himself should be our delight. There is no more significance in either one. Our worth is in how much Jesus Christ paid for redemption - it is in not our lifestyles or situations. All this shall pass quickly, only love, faith and hope remain - and believers in Jesus Christ. So as a single, I'd say don't take it to heart what people say.

Dear Stacey, I’ve just come onto your videos today. Excellent work. Thank you. Your commentary regarding the “feminine mystique” is clear. No doubt, this weekend assignment has challenged your personal opinions. i appreciate your willingness to go places that are so different than where you come from. True honest dialogue is an art form. You do it well. Dear one, i have so much to tell you. i see my younger self in you. i bought the life of feminism. i am twice your age. i’m the youngest sister to first wave feminists. my dreams were shaped by my older siblings. live free or die. as i aged, i became more out of synch with my peers. ie: (marriage & children.) i grieved for want to become a mother, for years. as time progresses it is clear to me that if I marry, most likely i’d be a second wife. Men my age either did not want children, or they already had children and didn’t want more. I missed the boat. at 39yrs old, I just decided to get pregnant. My clock was ticking so hard i knew i could no longer await the Fates. deep down I knew my window to have children was quickly drawing to a close. now, I am mother to one child. My son is grown into a fine 22yr old young man. it didn’t take long at all, as a single mother, to realize at the core of myself: I am a feminine traditionalist. i took parenting very seriously. what values did i want my son to guided by? what kind of man will hope him to become? Seriously. I wanted my son to have strong moral fiber. i wanted my son to be a leader, not a follower. i wanted my son to care about the underdog. These qualities of a manhood are distinctly found in Jesus Christ as it is written in The Bible. Motherhood has transformed my life and my perspective regarding feminism. Now, i only wish i had not been so rebellious and independent. if I could go back i would choose to be a traditional woman & wife.

I appreciate the traditional way they run their family, because on the surface it looks blissful and perfect. But I think this woman may not realize just HOW MUCH of a privilege it is to have a partner you can trust with no question. Part of me cringes when she says things like "more women should back down," but my first thought is that "my god she is so lucky to be ABLE to trust him so blindly." This lifestyle isn't a secret key to life. I admire and appreciate when folks can live traditionally the "right way," but there is a reason things have been changing so suddenly and drastically. For most people it is a welcome change. If this is truly how this family lives, the women and children are blessed. Nothing more than that.

Everyone should feel free to makes their own decisions about staying home with children vs working. Relationships should be an equal partnership, without one being in charge of other, and having ultimate say, and effectively demanding obedience. You can stay at home with your kids AND have a healthy balanced relationship not built on a keystone of obedience or all the controlling etc. I'm glad that they are happy with their lives currently, but the Donna Reed approach of being a perfect wife in no way prevents infidelity. Nor does it negate the need for him to learn to cook etc. So his game plan for feeding the family when she gets sick or something is to just eat out or order take out??? Dear Stacey has been with Kevin Clifton since 2019. In this video they have been together for 2 years as mentioned. I find it so sad that the idea of trusting Kevin wholeheartedly and to step out of the workforce is the last thing she'd want to do. Kevin is not even mentioned in that statement but just for "a man". I used to think like Stacey when I was 16. Then I met Jonathan and it all changed. Because I noticed he is made of a character and with morality that I can fully trust. Now I realize I am 100% better off being married to Jonathan and risking relationship hardship in the future than choosing to stay single and follow a career because then I would without a doubt be miserable inside. The only way I would be happy and single would be to be a follower of Jesus Christ.

Men naturally are trad husband because they have to provide, protect, and lead a family. Men don't just wait for a woman to provide, protect them because that's not a woman duty and responsibility to create an optimal family. Women are naturally fit to take care of kids and build the home while the men are more suitable for going out there an earn to provide. Can a woman earn too, yes But then both parents are busy and the government and society raises your kid because you have to put them in daycare and they learn poor behaviors that are not good for growth and development. I think Lillian is isolated in a new country and bored and uses her role as a wife and mother as a way to occupy her time and mind and essentially give her something to do. Or maybe she’s seeking out more emotional connection? it stuck out how she cried when Stacey had to leave, wrote Stacey a letter because she’s shy. Clearly Stacey’s presence meant something to her. I just wonder how typical it is for her age. I remember doing similar things, and I didn’t quite get the emotional support I needed as a child. Not that her behavior means she’s not getting enough love or attention but I definitely wonder about the dynamics of the family in terms of vulnerability, expressing negative feelings, etc. a lot to take from a snippet in a video I realize

Your conclusions are always to make some stranger, usually men, your hate target. Repeat this to yourself next time; "I am not God. I am not the center of the universe. I don't have to find strangers to hate because I refuse to forgive someone whom I THINK PURPOSELY hurt me. I can GROW UP and take ownership of my life, and learn to forgive. I think the icky part about this is the whole man > woman and if woman > man, he could cheat. My mom was a housewife for years because it was stressing taking care of two toddlers + working, while my dad is self employed and works all day everyday. So he told her that it would be no problem if she stopped working. He recognises she does work a lot, cause taking care of children and a house is work. When we got older she went back to work, but spends less hours at the office to go grocery shopping, cleaning, cooking, etc. If I got married, I would love that dinamic. We both work but if for some reason one of us feels like they can’t with everything, we could take some time off work. Of course it would only be if we had the sufficient income to do that lol
