This machine gun's sound is just ... frightening. Just imagine a band of F-10 jumping in and there is just a silence in a battlefield and only brrrrrrrrrrrrtttt here and there. Just like some kind of a dragons would having their own feast. Fascinating and frightening at the same time.

I was at England AFB 23 TFW Flying Tigers. Love that Plane and never had to see it fight. works nights and went to range about 20 miles from base in the morning and watched them Shoot. Incredible to see and here.

I've seen the A-10 nose to nose and in flight. It carries a high-speed 6-barrel 30 mm (1.18 inch) cannon--- it makes that loud double-zipper sound --- that can rip a tank to shreds. It can loiter a few hundred feet above the ground and turn on a dime, a truly remarkable sight for a jet-powered aircraft. This is one bad-ass machine, a perfect solution to a difficult problem. The Soviets called it "the Devil's Cross". I couldn't believe that anyone thought to retire this beautifully ugly airplane -- and fortunately smarter heads prevailed.

I don't know if I buy too much of that. We will be flying B52s until they are close to a century old. I know that construction, design, and flight stresses differ. They have come to the realization that the F35 can't take its place. The maintenance is just to intensive. They keep trying to come up with ideas for replacement, but nothing exists that has the capability when it comes to flight, weapons, or durability. Every time someone from the top tries to kill it, it's someone lower down that shows how much of a mistake it would be. It is a single mission aircraft and if its mission still exists, it should too. It's so simple and cheap, it would cost less to manufacture more, even if it requires remaking all of the tooling required.

The vast majority of CAS call-ins resulted in the allied aircraft not firing a shot. The U.S. Air Force was never into air to ground and only has done so to stay relevant.

David Kelly The F-15 sales pitch was "Not a pound for air to ground." From 1930 to the Vietnam Civil War, the U.S. army air and then the U.S. Air Force was far more interested in bombers and escort aircraft than aircraft for CAS missions. That's why one could name the best army/air force fighter bombers on one hand. The air generals wanted bombers and escorts.

I remodeled a house on the Wawasee lake in Indiana. I would stay there during the week at the house while It was gutted to studs and floors ripped up. During my eight month stay, these would fly low over the lake and right over the lake house. It was an amazing thing to see.

nah its not man every aircraft has their own helmet specs thats just the one for the a-10's avionics, just like the latest f-16 helmet vs the older one they upgrade them to fit the avionics package in the jet and some of the hawgs still use the old rounder looking helmets

The Warthog is a tank with wings it's design is 30MM cannon with an aircraft built around it and have been in service since the 70's they had decided to take them out of service but it caused such an up roar the DOA decided to leave them alone this is old fly by wire technology that's why they wanted to scrap them .

David Kelly The U.S. air Force is going to end up with drones, a few bombers and some fighters that can drop laser guided bombs if the guys on the ground can aim their guiding lasers. The vast majority of CAS missions with jets in Iraq and Afghanistan plus the sorties in Syria have resulted in mostly flying around and not shooting. That's because either the enemy left before the jets got their or the jets couldn't identify the target. Drones are already crashing at a high rate and will crash even more once they are being jammed.

So Yes - the AC 130 Specter Gunship can replace almost anything this platform can do - but we don't have enough of those platforms at the moment for sure. And Yes, the Air Force wants to shift CAS expenditures to the Army with their budget and make the Apache the responsible gunship - which it can do by the way. But the way the American military is stretched thin at this moment in time with multiple combat theaters and with the increased need, ending the A-10 project is simply dangerous to our current ground missions. And Yes, it was simply irresponsible for the Air Force to appear before the Congress and state that the F-35 could replace any of these platforms. That aircraft is simply unproven and should not be touted as a replacement for anything at the moment.
