A few years ago my sister was suffering from mild depression. I began writing a story in segments and posting it for her to read. She fell in love with a character who unfortunately was doomed. I mean this story was supposed to last a few weeks until she felt better. It lasted way past her feeling better, almost 11 months. Any way when I finally killed off this character my sister went nuts. Rang up and yelled at me. Would yell at me at family gatherings. Okay gotta fix this. I am using this month to push on with my story to brings the character back. I am aiming at around 30 t0 40 thousand words over November and 120 thousand total. The thing is my notes for the story currently runs to 300,000 words. That's me. Happy NaNoWriMo everyone

I haven't written a word! But I have been having long talks with my characters and I've had some really big revelations and worked out some major plot points for my trilogy. I've been working on this for 5 years, and this has finally brought me within reaching distance of me being able to complete the outline for all 3 books. I'm so excited! I've written 70k words in that time of brain dump info and back and forth with ideas about the plot, and it's just started to snap together in the past few weeks. I owe a lot of that to you Abbie and your videos! I've probably watched them all at least twice. THANK YOU! 🫶🤘

Thank you for this beautiful, inspirational and thoroughly enjoyable video! This came out just as I needed it! I love that you accept, affirm and even encourage a non-traditional NaNoWriMo plan! For me, participating in NaNo has been different this year since on October 31st, I finished my second novel!! Obviously, that made me super excited and proud, but since it was so close to the mark, I couldn't really do NaNo. Right now, I'm just looking for my next big project, prepping for edit on my first novel and grieving the loss of one of my dear main characters (second novel! 😭) Thanks for your content and all that you do. Because of you, I have two fully-finished novels, both at about 150k words. You're the reason I started writing and the reason I could continue after first making that choice. It's about a dad and his three sons, and eventually his own dad, 3 generations of bounty hunters and gun mages (which is a gunslinger that can channel spells into the bullets to go off when they hit, or just alternate between casting spells and shooting). Way behind projected word count so far but not alarmed. I'm watching the Fistful of Dollars trilogy, which is honestly being insanely helpful.

Last year was my first attempt at NaNo, but I failed miserably because I started partway through the month and wasn’t prepared at ALL. This time I spent the whole year preparing on and off, and even practiced in July by writing as much as I could every day and seeing what it got me. Originally I was gonna write the first draft of one of my books for this year’s NaNo, but I ended up deciding to write a fanfic instead and I’m actually so glad I did. Writing a fanfic has made it easier for me to actually come up with plot stuff and write the dang story. I also joined some Discord writing servers and the writing sprints they host in there have been insanely helpful. On Thursday and Friday I wrote over 2,000 words which broke my record for daily word count. I also feel like writing this fic is teaching me a lot about my process, and better exposing me to my own strengths and weaknesses. The fic will have three parts and part one is already almost done! I seriously hope I can stick this out and actually finish a long-form project for once. I’m already so proud of how far I’ve come, and I also have my best friend/critique partner to thank for all their help and support!

My goal for November is to actually START the writing process. I've outlined this thing to death, and it's a vicious cycle. Outline the whole book, then start writing the first chapter and then BAM, think up a "brilliant" idea (i.e. red herring, new character, new plot point, etc). And because of that new great, brilliant THING, my brain's like, "Well, Ashley, it's time to re-outline EVERTHING because this new great brilliant THING isn't in your old outline." So, we're back to chapter 1...and it starts again. I AM DETERMINED to stop outlining and go for it. This damn book has been playing in my head for years...oh god, YEARS. It needs to come out. (I did just have a baby girl last year so I'm being a little bit kind to myself for the slow progress.)

I've been taking some time away from trying to write actual drafts, because the whole staring for hours at the blank page and hating everything that comes out thing was happening A LOT. I've been writing for a year now and I have learned not to push myself through that, because feeling unmotivated and very critical is not how I ACTUALLY feel about writing in general. It's just a mood and it needs time to breathe so it can go away. So I've been watching a lot of writing videos, geeting in touch with other writers' perspectives on writing and routine and creativity in general... I have also finally decided to actually plot my story, in hopes that it will help me break through the blank page staring contest. I sat down with a video about plotting that really resonated with me and wrote down step by step. Then, I sat down with the first step, which was just brainstorming. And I thought I wouldn't get anything out of it, because I brainstormed by novel one year ago and got pretty far with it, I thought now I just need to string everything together, structure those ideas... But oh, man! I came up with such a delicious backstory for my story's setting. It just came to me and led me to come up with some good plot ideas that stem from that background... And it reminded me so much of when I was first starting out, and had no idea this would become such a big thing for me, such a dream. Such a job too. I used to just play around with these ideas, these characters and settings... And I was just focused on having fun! So this has been a major breakthrough for me recently, to never forget to just have fun with it. No matter how seriously I actually take it. It's my biggest joy as well. And I should never let that go. So for this november, I will just continue to experiment. I'm back to the drawing board and I think I might just doodle for a bit.

My goal for NaNo this year is just to deep dive into the second book of my contemporary fantasy trilogy and to begin writing the first draft, while doing all my other creative and chaotic stuff. :D I need to have some projects finished when my short story came back from editing, so that I can concentrate on my anthology text. This is my first time working with a publisher, even if it's just for an anthology. Like you said. There is no second chance for a first impression. And I would like to take advantage of this opportunity. Maybe they'll be interested in my trilogy - as long as they accept manuscripts again. :D Oh... I have to thank you, Abbie. I applied everything I learned from you to this short story. This also seems to be well received on the German book market. It's basically going to function as an extremely detailed, long, dialogue including outline. I have no doubt i'll end up re-writing a lot of it as it'll change path along the way since it's not fully outlined as it is and i'm sort of plantsing my way through it. It's enjoyable, though c: For now i've written 12.8k words, a bit behind schedule but i'd rather be behind than hating what i'm doing, so it's fine. TL:DR my goal is to make progress on my WIP in any way, shape, or form!

One thing I haven’t found on your channel that I’d love to see (and I think others would too) is some writing exercises /practices. I had the idea for the novel I’m writing about 10 years ago (which is right around the time I stopped writing) On my journey I am not only RE-learning what I used to know but I’m also learning new things. I feel I need to write outside my novel to practice a “thing” before writing that “thing” in my novel. For example: ✨DIALOG✨ I’m learning how to write Victorian style dialog. I’d love to have an idea of an exercise I can do to practice this before implementing that into my actual novel so I’m not doing it blind. Hope that makes sense and hope you see this! ❤

My favorite part is the one about getting active - for example ice skating. (Tbh that's not an option for me. But I love taking walks in the near by forest.)

Good luck with the writing. Just have to mention that you have such a beautiful home, every different 'scene' had something in the background that was gorgeous, so aesthetic. I'd love a home tour video!

This is my 13th year attempting NaNoWriMo 50k word count. It's never happened so this year, my goal is just doing something wriitng related every day which I've been doing since September actually. I didn't start writing the manuscript until the beginning of November so if I happen to make it to 50k words, great. If not, that's okay too. Mostly I just want to keep making some kind of progress. :) All your words of encouragement, your experience, your suggestions... they all help. Thank you. :) And good job, YOU! You've got a full plate, I'm excited about your projects too.

Abbie, I LOVE your vlogs!! They are so well done and beautiful; thank you for sharing! I'm always inspired to hear what you're up to and it definitely motivates me! I'm not officially doing NaNo, but I am doing a writing challenge on my own and hooking up with others in your discord for writing sprints. So fun! I want to write about 30,000 words, however, that is probably over-reaching for my schedule this month, but I love your comment about just making a goal to show up and write SOMETHING. Thanks for bringing us along on your journey! 💜

I've had a good writing habit for a while, and since this month is busy, I am aiming for 700 words a day (at least). I'm working on a sci-fi fantasy novel about a girl who steals conversations, which has been a lot of fun! I'm not sure I'll be able to finish drafting it this month, but I hope to make a lot of progress, nonetheless.

I'm non officially doing nanowrimo. It's my first time, and I'm editing my first si-fi novel and writing and alternate reality novel as well. But unfortunately I'm facing writer's block. NOOOOO!!!! So I'm just going to edit my other book, love your channel and your vids!!!

My goal for November is to get the yard cleaned up and mowed, get the house cleaned so I can start my artwork. Then maybe by January I can get back to my story. That thing you saw in the sky is a sun dog. There probably was another one on the other side of the sun.

I liked this way of your vlog, it’s nice, I’ve been working on my Fantasy Romance story, I was working on draft 1-Chp 8 and gladly finished it, and now I’m working on Chp 9, and trying to get some freelance work done hopefully.. 🙏🏼

I usually use November for editing, rather than writing, with the goal of having something publishable by the end of the year. However my first week has been horrifically unproductive, with my 3.0 draft being harder to write than the original 1.0 was. Also we had a massive heat wave this week (I'm in the southern hemisphere) which was really distracting as I barely slept all week. Love the vlog, by the way - especially your apparent UFO encounter!

This NaNoWrimo has been a struggle for me as well. The problem with me I have two books I want to write and I can’t pick one to focus on. For one book I have written three chapters and the other I just have a rough outline. I’m not sure what to do at this point. 😅 But I enjoyed the vlog! ❤

Love this video!! I have always loved writing vlogs and I loved this one!! I think getting your non fiction book traditionally published is huge!! And I think it will do very well when it gets officially published!! I will be definitely buying it for sure when it comes out!!! ❤️❤️❤️✍️

I have written twelve books. My first one flopped so comprehensively, and so expensively, that I was deeply traumatized. I haven't published since. My goal for NaNoWriMo is to break the log-jam, 'screw my courage to the sticking post' and finally publish something!

I don't know where that's from. Can I still comment? My unofficial nanowrimo has started slow, but I decided to do an entirely new project and didn't do any preptober, so there's a lot of figuring out characters and worldbuilding stuff. It all started out with an interesting feature in my fantasy world map that I wanted to explore, and has turned into a multiverse-spanning tale.

I started the month with the cold, so my NaNoWriMo got a delayed start. I have now written something each day since this Monday on a book project I have had for an year now. The plan is to write something every day for the next 4-5 weeks. I really wish there were like groups in my vicinity (Copenhagen, DK), where I could converse in person with other writers/authors about their projects and mine. I got a reward planned, if I achieve 80 % of my targeted writing days.

My current goal is to finish a short animated film I'm working on titled 'ijinle' So I'm a 3d artist and writing the script was pretty fun... but since I'm basically making a 3d film solo it's quite a lot of work and just watching your contents weirdly exactly when I needed them the most is always rejuvenating I'm almost done with the teaser and I can't wait to start shooting animation reference videos and bringing the character to life

My writing goal this month and the following months is to find time to write. I’m working on a psychological thriller in a science fantasy world. My log line is this: A teen’s memory gaps unravel a conspiracy in future Haiti. This is my dream project and I can’t wait for it to be published! 😊

This will be my 7th Nano; I'm 17067K words in so far and no stress. It's my 2nd Nano since my mother passed and my watch as her 24-7 caregiver ended. The last few years I had only written during NaNo, as it was the one and only "me-thing" I insisted on doing every year. Last year I did not stop writing and set a goal of a minimum of 250 words a day... which I crushed, except for a few weeks I couldn't write, having been diagnosed with cancer after my mother died so was too sick. This NaNoWriMo has been the most unstressful one I have ever done, almost anticlimactic, because I know I can do this, and I will do it. Writing is still my "me-thing". I like to write fantasy, modern-day romance with a fantasy angle, and non-fantasy romance. Being Neuro-D (ADHD) I usually have a few different projects going at once, but my favorite WIP to work on for NaNo is a wolf-shifter romance set in modern-times.

This month I'm suffering. I got a slow start and had difficulty finding my rhythm, so I've been behind the entire first week. I'm currently at 13,600 out of 15,000 words. I'm resigned to not making par today, either. I'm not sure I'll make the whole 50,000 at this rate. My project is the tale of a quiet, bookish young man with a large sword who is hired to confront a Dark Sorceress. She turns out to be his long lost older sister. The family reunion turns quite exciting. There will be fires and people screaming.
