He clearly has an ego issue, to be frank. And he obviously goes into tournaments with that whole mindset of wanting to be one of the best, which only causes stress and problems. You simply have to go into tournaments, including during all the practice for them, with a completely professional mindset that is detached from egotism. For example, Hendry in his day at least in tournament play became ice cold focused and fully knew he was capable of winning, thereby bringing his calm, calculating and more relaxed practice game to the match table. If you go to a match desperate to prove yourself, wanting to win in the sense of not quite believing in your game so trying too hard and then making errors and getting stressed and embarrassed...it only causes problems with your game. I know it's easy to say these things but it's just true and has been demonstrated time and time again by those who regularly win big tournaments. They all say the same thing. Exactly the same as how everyone says if they stopped to think of the prize money for a 147 or something, they'd never pot those last few balls. They all manage those big successes by not thinking at all about winning, or about prize money or about showing off or feeling embarrassed or any of that. If he forgets about striving to win, striving to show off or prove himself in front of crowds and cameras, he won't get far. If he can learn for himself how to just drop all that baggage and simply play snooker in the same focused, detached and relaxed manner he does in practice, then Holt could definitely get back up the rankings and win some biggies.

I now feel vindicated as I always practice with my spotty ball. It helps so much to see exactly what is going on with where I have actually hit the cue ball, especially if you miss or run out of position. Seeing the spin is awesome. 30 quid well spent.

What I'm really looking for is a LONG video kinda like this, where someone talks through what they're aiming for before the shot and how they're going to achieve that, also with an explanation of what they're seeing (for example, on the first black you said "red in the middle will probably be best", but it looks to me like there are a couple of good reds, so how do you come to the decision that the red in the middle is best?). And then a review after each shot talking about what happened, why you didn't get where you wanted ect. Hard to find genuinely useful videos like this. All I see here is someone clearing the table with very little explanation. "Pick your height" while on the white ball, without explaining what height that is and why.

Question Michael, how do prepare for your safety game? Do you play with regulars in the club or do you 'play yourself' into tactical decisions? Or do you mainly improve your safety game in the tournament games?
@MichaelHoltSnookerCoaching
@MichaelHoltSnookerCoaching Жыл бұрын
I think a good safety game comes with experience mostly. There are areas on the table which you can find that are usually safe but because you never know where the balls are going to land, it’s hard to have a specific practice routine.

At 5:10 i definitely would have tried to use screw and right hand side to go around 2 cushions. Do you think this is a harder shot than the one you played
@MichaelHoltSnookerCoaching
@MichaelHoltSnookerCoaching Жыл бұрын
You could play it your way but… My way it’s a trace of helping side. By the time I hit the cushion the white is already on the correct path, it’s just about pace then. It’s unlikely I wont at leat have a shot at a red even if I play it badly. On the shot you suggest you are having to judge screw and side off 2 cushions. You could get a bit of a flier with the amount of side, you are also having to judge the back spin which might grip more/less than you need. Also, if you do judge these perfectly the path of the cue ball is towards the reds, it you could easily travel too far. 👍

Michael, could you please make a video with an honest and detailed explanation what caused you to fall out of tour? That is very interesting to hear. Something with psychology? Or you were not practicing? Or others became so much better? If that is difficult to tell, or unpleasant, thats ok. But for me and i think for many others would be very interesting to know why so experienced player got out of tour. You lost too much last year. P.S. How did you miss THAT green ball against Wu Yize?
