Thank you Michael. I actually learnt something in this video. I usually don't watching coaching videos anymore as I've seen so many. I wish I could casually just get down and pot a maximum like that

Great Informative Video about an Absolutely Brilliant Maximum Break! I thought I did'nt have too much left to learn about spin and cueball control but your expert commentary here was well worth listening to and as a result I've picked up some invaluable insights regarding the nuances of more advanced positional play . . . Thanks Michael, this is probably the best Snooker Coaching Video I've ever watched that demonstrates how to achieve that All Important Cueball Control! Top Work!!! 😃🎯👊💯💯

Trace of side has got to be the most underrated method positional wise to get the white rolling how you want it, you might argue that using a trace stops you from using lots of it, or hitting harder - there are many coaches and players saying don’t use it, but I reckon that makes the game harder. For a beginner learning the game, would you say don’t use it? Or use it?

When your putting the trace of side on the ball are you altering the potting angle to allow for the side ? Or don't you need to as its only minimal side. Thanks mate.

Great watch…..you’re a super fella. Just a small question….the green ball. You played with a trace of right……I thought it may have needed left to check it? Please explain why right, or did that check it?? Thx in advance.

This video was really helpful so thank you...I'm struggling on how much power to apply....I watch all your videos if you do anything like this again can you do a power bar please...hope you have a good season! And when I can pot a few more balls constantly I'll have a lesson off you as I'm in Nottingham 👍 Luke.

I find this really helpful. I put way to much side on and get huge deflection. Then I'm playing with too much guess work. Any tips on deep screw shots 👍

Great! Very interesting. The helping side is almost counterintuitive because on a couple of shots it looked like check side but actually it was just the “helping” side wearing off before the white hits the cushion.

Yes. People confuse side with helping side.
@faddy1117

So when it’s just a trace/ touch of helping side, do you still have to allow a little for the slightest deflection? Or just go for the aim you’ve chosen?

I believe if the cue ball does not touch the cushion, the spin on cue ball will not work. Why do you use L or R on almost every shot? or I am wrong?

with helping side, do you aim your cue parallel on the helping side line? - so get down on the helping side line, Or do you get down on the aim line (ghost ball) and just move the tip (either front hand or back hand) to be on the helping side line?
@MichaelHoltSnookerCoaching
@MichaelHoltSnookerCoaching Жыл бұрын
It’s important to address the white at the correct point first then adjust the potting angle (if needed) from that spot on the cue ball. With helping side the potting angle is very similar to if you had hit the centre of the cue ball. Any difference (if any) would be quickly learned. Here a video on it… kzbin.info/www/bejne/jYSaqKd8ht6Za8k

Think the ball chart should have been Centre, for top spin: T1/T2, for bottom spin: B1/B2, for left or right spin, R1/R2 and L1/L2. Makes more sense this way.

Thank you. How do you play press white on the cushion? Do you use helping side as well, or do you try to find the middle? I find it really hard to find the middle of the white, when it's on the cushion.

So a couple of shots played centre ball, but the majority with helping side, assumingly more for the sake of the pot than position.

Hi Michael. This seems like the appropriate vid to mention high breaks. I have been a 50-break player for about 20 years. I've had the lessons, I've watched all the tuition vids, I've studied snooker commentary on TV for 30 years, and basically I know what to do, when to do it and how to do, but I am stuck at decent-club-player standard. Meanwhile, much younger guys, and your good self, are banging in centuries and 147s. The frustrating thing is that I obviously know what I am doing - otherwise I wouldn't be getting 50s - but why can't I get centuries? Does it all boil down to the dreaded 'T' word... a lack of talent? 🤔
@MichaelHoltSnookerCoaching
@MichaelHoltSnookerCoaching Жыл бұрын
Mark my friend. If you can make 50 breaks you have enough hand eye coordination to make centuries. Most of the tuition vids are absolute nonsense made by people who can’t play to a high level themselves. Since starting to coach I’m amazed at how much misinformation is out there. I’m genuinely fascinated by it. If it was true why aren’t the people preaching it better players? More often than not they are average club players at best. This isn’t a high enough level to be giving advice out IMO. Snake oil salesman are alive and well. If you truly did “know what to do and how to do it” you would definitely be playing to a higher level. You do not miss through lack of talent. No chance. You just need someone to show you how to play… Hopefully see you soon. 👍

@@MichaelHoltSnookerCoaching Hi again Michael. Thank you for your reply. Your message that: "If you truly did 'know what to do and how to do it' you would definitely be playing to a higher level" really spooked me! It was an eye-opener actually. And having watched your vid above again, I realised that I always use FAR too much side spin. If you can get a 147 with just a trace then what am I doing spinning the white all over the place?!! I realise now that I am probably creating all sorts of unnecessary problems like 'throw' and 'deflection' and goodness knows what. So thank you for that wake-up call. Damn shame I live 200 miles away, or I'd be banging on your door 😊
