It's crazy to think about how many people probably got away with murder back then considering forensics wasn't like it is today and cameras weren't everywhere. It's also crazy to think about how 1926 was 96 years ago!!

I would take 1926 over the crime that's taking place today, at least they prosecuted and punished back then rather than turn a blind eye!

I am amazed at how many crimes WERE solved back then for the same considerations.

@MrJohn714, there was political and police corruption aplenty in the 1920s, which included turning a blind eye to crime. There were city politicians who unabashedly made it clear that their cities were wide open towns.

@@MrJohn714lol Didn’t a whole city get burned down in the 20’s simply because people hated seeing black Americans do well in this country? And the people didn’t even get proper punishment for it? There’s things about the past we should revive again (like our street car systems). This ain’t it.

I grew up south of Canton and had a couple of apartments in Canton proper before leaving the area for good. There was a mall named after the victim in this story. It’s a fraction of what it once was. They tried to change the name to Canton Center, but locals continued calling it Mellett Mall. Also, its pronounced MellETT (like Corvette; not like millet).

Thanks for mentioning a Pierce-Arrow. My maternal grandfather was a teen in the 20s and always wanted one!

@@solameencuentro I know, and technically the Native American is also an immigrant since humans migrated to the Americas several thousand years ago. But in the context of the 1920's American worldview "foreign blood" are immigrants that came over here over the previous 50 years.

@@arrow1414 it just seems a bit racist since saying foreign blooded rather than immigrants implies they’re biologically different than otherwise

Funny how the more things change, the more they stay the same, in terms of organized crime.

I'm surprised at the continued "anti-foreigner" statements used in that article. Several times, simply being from another country lumped you in with other undesirables like drug-dealers and bootleggers, as well as the average mobster and racketeer. Was America always like this? I didn't learn those sentiments in school or at home. I was taught to be tolerant of others differences and to be open to change. Today's news seems to have reverted to feelings much like this story from 96 years ago. After listening to Donald trump in 2016, I expect statements like that from his cronies. To hear such statements from almost 100 years ago shows how much we HAVEN'T changed. It is a sad commentary of this country.
