Thank you so much for what you do and say, very inspiring, especially the humbling bit about your moment of self-doubt during SBL recording! For three thousand you can get a Fender telecaster bass used, and a b15 copy amp and still have some change to spare

Cioks have a Cioks 8 expander as well - also has a few more possibilities than the 4. You could technically power the second 4 from a normal output of the DC-7, but that could weigh the DC-7 down quite a bit.

🐼 This stuff makes me so tempted to redo my board to be stereo but I simply cannot afford that at this point lol. Also when you do the board demo I would like to see some demonstration of how you use the compression at the end of the chain, I typically use a little bit at the beginning, thinking it helps the sound hit some of the effects a little bit more stable

The way I see it, people like Janek fly in terms of sound and price tags so that others can walk. Most of his sounds I will never ever use. Most of these pedals I will never need. But what truly matters is the pioneering work that stretches what we think of as basic. 20 years ago a tuner was deemed enough. Maybe 10 years from now there won't be a bassist without an HX Stomp or a separate reverb because they won't be seen as overkill anymore.

Just added up the cost of my board using the same approach, new prices if available used prices if vintage and no longer made - $3600, which I think is ridiculous 😮 That open bottle of water next to the $10k pedalboard is making me anxious. 🐼

5,000 for a guitar…too much. For pedals…. Mind you, once there is a modeller in there the number steps up fast.

I don't know how to make a panda bear emoji, but I made it to the end. Unbelievable amount of money. I have no padals at the moment. Looking to start with a compressor and an octaver.

There is no way anyone in their right mind would pay $3000+ for the Octabvre MK II. It’s a great pedal but that’s ridiculous. Incidentally, I would sell mine for $2500 if anyone is feeling foolish

The Octabvre MKII can be had for way less than $3k. Saw one listed on Reverb for £650 (or offer) a few weeks ago and I finally scored one just over a week ago for £445. Admittedly it’s taken me about 5 years to do that though after foolishly selling the one I bought from new for half that! I’m so happy to have it again as I really missed that sound.

Just did a quick evaluation for my board with same method. I end up just short of 2500 euros. Not that bad except it’s 2 times the value of my most expensive bass 😅 Given that it’s a work tool for your music, in the end it’s not that insane. If you were a top level classical musician your instrument would be potentially more expensive than that plus the value of your most often used basses. Even as a bass player, if you were a top studio player you’d probably be having actual vintage instruments such as a 60s P and Jazz that are definitively in the same price range… so it makes sense for your musical lane.

3:03 I saw previous video. I didn’t comment on price though. I will do it early in video here, my guess 13.000 $ for those 17 pedals

There is a 3leaf Octaver in Germany for sale on eBay, coming in at "just" 600 bucks, maybe someone is interested in getting it.
@TheSchwelle8 сағат бұрын
You could just get the Cioks 8 expander to replace the two cioks 4’s :) Awesome board btw. I also got a lot of these pedals and I got them mostly over a German second hand platform and got a lot of them cheaper then you calculated them now. But even with these prices they were pretty expensive haha 😅

🐼 This may be slightly off topic and I’m sure you’ve talked about this before, but when working on your own music with other musicians in the studio, how much of their contribution to the music comes from specific lines, phrases, melodies etc. that you write for them, versus how much is created by them in the moment? In other words, how much creative freedom do you like to give to the musicians you pick to be on your record? This may be an impossible question to answer as I’m sure it’s different for you each time, but just curious on your process. Thanks!
@janekgwizdala8 минут бұрын
@@mikerupe the easy answer is that I give them total freedom. I’m always open to everyone’s suggestions whether it’s completely improvised or a suggestion for one of my compositions. I spend a large amount of time figuring out who I want to be in the studio with so I don’t have to think about creative input issues over we get to the point of recording. I always trust everyone around me 100%.

I'm pretty sure when people list their 3Leaf pedals for multiple thousands of dollars it's just to appease their wives and pretend they're trying to sell gear but in fact they get to keep it. The reason there's nothing on reverb cheaper than that is because the ones that go for ~$750 sell in days (I haven't finished watching, just making this comment based off the title)

16 pedals x 500 each average…. Then maybe 8k plus the cables and board and power supply? 10k total. That’s my guess.
