@@redragon1990they’re literally all the same the pitch is just shifted. The notes aren’t gonna “transition” any better in any tuning because a perfect fifth will always be 3/2, etc. The beauty is in the harmony not the fundamental frequency and if you listened to any of these out of context and separated from eachother you would have no opinion or even perception of their fundamental frequency. The whole “440 bad” thing is bogus. One thing I will tell you is that the context of these tunings will affect your perception. In my opinion here, since we start out on 415 it naturally sounds good. The shift to 432 sounds like it’s off from shifting by a satisfying tone up from 415, but on its own it sounds fine. But transitioning into 440 from 432 seems to resolve that awkward tension, making me think that the amount of cents that you shift from 415 to 440 is probably close to 100. I googled it and found that that is true, they are separated by a semitone (100 cents). I was already aware that 432 is separate from 440 by around 30 cents and so, confirming what my ears heard it sits awkwardly in between both tunings. But ON THEIR OWN, there is no perceivable difference. It is all about the intervals and the temperament of the tuning.

@@poodychulak 432 instead of 440 is changing the frequency to something that is in between the normal notes, turning A to 407.75 is just tuning down a half step within the 432hz frequency system, so it is the same as 432 and the key of the music is changed too. But the test that people want to do is comparing 440 music and 432 music. 407.75 is 432, just in a different key.

This is the only reason people perceive a difference between these tunings. You would not normally say that a song played in G# is 'better' than the same song played in A. But when you hear them side-by-side, you perceive a difference instantly. Yes, tuning strings down has an effect on the timbre of the instrument, but there's nothing fundamentally different about A=415Hz. It's just G#. You could keep going infinitely... "I think G natural sounds more soothing," etc.

Interesting comparison, thank you for taking the time to do this. One's likes/dislikes are highly subjective, I will offer my own observations/impressions. There is a warmth and a resonance to 415hz--not sure how much is the room vs the instrument. 432hz seems the least resonant of the three examples. I would say you used the least vibrato on 432hz. And to venture into very subjective territory (are my ears tricking me???), the 415hz and 440hz both seemed more in tune than 432hz. I wondered if you were least in love w the sound of 432hz (I know, that sounds crazy). 440hz sounds very agreeable to me, bright yes, by resonant. Then I begin to wonder what 440hz would sound like on a modern bow and instrument setup, so these are other subjective factors. Overall, very cool demonstration, I liked 415 for warmth and 440 for brightness.

The sound on that Baroque Violin sounds nice, honestly, I wish I owned one of those bad boys to get the feel of how they used to be played. Including the gut strings making them pretty unique to try out. I mean I own a Baroque Bow, not a Baroque Violin, but yeah cool stuff.

From what I heard: 440hz sounds clean, bright, flat and plain 432hz sounds out of tune 415hz sounds nice and comfortable I think the main reason for 432hz sounding out of tune is because it was actually out of tune, and the reason why 415hz sounded nice and comfortable is simply because it was lower-pitched which has more bass...415hz is like half a note lower than 440hz after all

This violin was made to be played in 415 so I think that's why it sounds best. I agree that 432 is not really in tune, the strings did not want to stay in place and I have a hard time hearing if things are in tune when playing at 432!

415 is my favorite, but I wonder if the differing opinions have to do with the frequency response of the ears of each individual-- maybe some people's ears like certain frequencies more.

I like the warmth mellowness of 415hz and the brightness of 440hz. It’s difficult to play in tune at 432hz on a violin if you’re not used to it and the violin isn’t resonating as much at 432. That said if I’m playing modern violin I prefer 442hz above 440hz (I’ve never been in love with 440hz but it’s what we use in orchestras here in the U.K. so what can you do?!)

440 Hz is louder and causes agressivity, such as cell destroying and non healing. Old wood instruments are mostly set to the old 432 Hz before 1930ies. I tune my accoustic guitar also to 432 Hz. It's most harmonic also with my singing voice.
