I am a musician. I listened carefully as songs were played in both frequencies. The only way I can describe what I felt was the difference is that 432 Hz feels more ‘authentic’ and possibly a bit ‘warmer’ to my ear, and the 440 Hz has an oddly ‘flat surface’ type of sound which feels ‘colder’ and definitely more ‘mechanical’. This is the best I can do. Which do I prefer? Definitely the 432 Hz. Even when a single note is played the 440 feels metallic and machine-like. Please be aware that the impressions I had were EXTREMELY subtle.
@jojo-qx8vo2 жыл бұрын
Maybe it feels metallic because acoustic guitar strings are made from steel...Well I love Tesla and Pythagoras and I try to keep my mind open in every opinion that I listen to but they dont sound different and they can't sound diffend because harmony is created by intervals and either you tune your instrument on 432hz or 440hz the distance between your intervals will be the same if you do the math. Also lower frequencies tend to sound warmer play with an EQ and you will get it!
@atwaterkent9112 жыл бұрын
I hear the exact opposite: 432 may sound flat, sound is crisp and clear. 440 sounds muddled/muddy. Also 440 hurts my ears.
@neniugrava2 жыл бұрын
It is nothing more than the effect of transposing to a lower "key". I would bet everyone would say exactly the same thing if he tuned down to Eb (and some famous songs do just this). If there is some thing that makes 432 significant it would have to be related to the timbre of the instrument or voice, or to human hearing physiology. We can already account for the warmth and related feelings by dropping to a lower "key". I just got a new tin whistle in Eb today, and in comparison my cheapo whistle in D sounds warmer and more relaxed. 432 is not quite a semitone change, but the chosen frequency for tones are arbitrary. It was 415 before it got anywhere near 432, and was as high as 460 before standardization. My new whistle has the ability to be tuned, and wouldn't you know songs sound warmer the lower I tune it. The difference is real, but not what the 432 crazies are selling. Side-by-side listening is not even close to scientific when we know key changes can already produce these effects. I'd bet that nobody would know the difference if the comparisons were of different songe in different keys at random, randomly tuned to 440 or 432 or a handful of other tunings for good measure.

From the 59 year old lifetime musician, vocalist and public school music teacher - Each frequency has it's own power, feeling, ability, and some would say color - the 440Hz was definately brighter, stronger, more tense; the 432 warmer, more relaxed, loving. Both can serve an emotional message. As a song writer, I find the musical key (frequency) of a song incredibly important to the feeling and message of the song, as important as the words, chords, and arrangement. The room you are in can also play a factor. The frequencies should respond in the manner you want with the materials in the room - wood, metal, etc. Great video, great comments here. Thank you Paul!!

Yes! Music is a method of communicating, be it a story or an emotion. Key and mode are tools to convey what you want the listener to feel. The two tunings could be suitable for different styles of music. I don't think I would play a Speed Metal song in 432.
@bigboll19154 ай бұрын
@NastuFfka10 ай бұрын
The difference is huge! I can feel the pleasantness vibrating from my chest upwards when hearing 432hz, unconsciously I smile and tend to close my eyes, that's how my body reacts. 440hz seems to not resonate in the body at all, as compared to another sound feels like there is no response at all, it also sounds much more flat to ear. But after a few more examples on 440hz I can say I noticed a subtle tremble in the lower parts of the body, back of the thighs, knees. Can't describe it as pleasant. Amazing video! Thank you so much!!!

Six years ago, I was diagnosed with end-stage liver failure caused by trauma from a car accident- they gave me a 15% chance of living two months. I already played acoustic guitar, but I used 440. I actually messed it up without realizing it, and changed the setting on my sound hole tuner to 432, and I started feeling better. Not immediately or anything like that- but enough to keep me going, and I've been putting in hours of practice a day, both playing and singing, and I managed to not only survive, but to avoid having a liver transplant. I can't prove that the music was the one thing that healed it, but it certainly didn't hurt- and a big dreadnaught sound box right against your body certainly drives those vibrations into you. I'm not sure that I would claim that listening to music at 432 makes much of a difference in reality, but playing it absolutely does...

We think your spot on it would have been the vibrations from the guitar when you were playing going through that part of your body especially in a concentrated way. When you said that you picked up your guitar and you were playing and then you started singing and you do that every day it made us remember that it caused us to remember we thought we should tell you something that you may already know and that is that just like your guitar strings produced tones at frequencies so does your voice and that's why they say monks chant OM they do it in a different pitch because they say it's about the vibration and say the different sound vibrations they produce help or aid certain things. Anyway we really just wanted to say that your story was good and we're glad that it worked out that way for you, so live long and prosper As they say.

The 432 feels less forced. Sorta light and "feathery" like it just flows with minimal effort whereas 440 feels more like it is weighted and requires more energy to process the sound after it hits your ears. Another feeling it brings to me is the difference in dry and wet sand, not necessarily such a super contrasting difference that makes 440 unpleasant or anything, but the 432 didn't feel like it was as much of a chore for my ears to listen to it, and sometimes-actually quite often really-it is the largely unrecognized or unspoken subtleties that can make all the difference in an experience.

The songs played in 440 sound “cleaner” and closer to mainstream generated music to me while the songs in 432 sound more interesting/melodic, natural, have a bit more feeling to them, and somehow tickle my brain. I listened to both versions of the songs with closed eyes after the first song and each time I knew clearly which frequency it was. But I couldn’t hear any difference between them at 10:50 and I am not sure if I have a preference. I would say 432 if I had to choose, because it sounds more natural and authentic.

at first when i heard 432hz it felt out of tune but after 5 seconds or so it felt a lot more natural and soothing and then 440hz came in and it sounded so brittle and harsh in comparison. really interesting. the skeptic in me wants to believe they landed on 440hz for 'concert pitch' for the projection and clarity of notes, especially amongst an ensemble but the difference in feeling you get from both is too much to ignore
@drpops66 Жыл бұрын

Sounds like unlikely to me. Especial in music where the 440 is only a really tiny part of the melody and harmonies anyway. The effect of frequencies on the freezing of water has much more to do with the room around in relation to the frequency. For instance the pattern water in a cup for 440 Hz will be the same to 432 of the radius of the cup is adjusted to the respective wavelength of the different frequencies. With other words, the cup for 432Hz should be slightly larger then for 440Hz.

Your guitar tuned at 432hz has more low and mid range, the highs not as bright as 440hz. The 432hz notes are more round and full across the board. The 440hz has more bite and sparkle. I have only recently heard about the whole 432 vs 440 and was skeptical of their being a big difference between the two. Well, I was wrong! For me everything in 432hz had a tremendous calming and comforting effect on me. It’s as if I “feel” the music throughout my body. I “feel” the 440hz music only in my head. Even the second tune, a great hymn at 440hz seemed a bit “in my face” compared to 432hz. Strange but that’s how I felt throughout the comparison. I don’t understand it. And I know this is purely subjective, but that’s how it affected me. Thanks for doing this comparison!

@tusharjamwal5 жыл бұрын
There will be, this is a preferential matter, and any attempt at studying it will be troublesome and not to good use. Timbre and tonal differences between different instruments render them better suited some tunings over others. The music being played also has a big effect on your tuning preference. So any possible study would be quite useless in the little scope it would have. For example "Beethoven's 9th Symphony in A4=432 Hz vs A4=440 Hz on Piano" No matter what the answer is, it doesn't help musicians make new music and doesn't help composers arrange any better. So i don't think any ambitious scientist will spend time on a similar endeavour.

The reason I like 432 hz tuning is so that the high C note will be at 4096 hz. Tuning forks are specifically made at this 4096 hz frequency,to be used for clearing quartz crystals and realigning the internal structure along its C axis, before use in crystal healings. Besides, the math works easier for all frequencies at 432hz. Still, the most important thing is resonance. You would state the same difference if he played 430Hz instead of 432Hz without telling you, because you enjoy the slightly "deeper" sound, not the specific reference frequency and you believe in the myth of 432Hz. You would also not be able to consistently tell the difference if the examples weren't played back-to-back but instead several minutes apart. Vinyls sound different from digital media due to their technical limitations, i.e. the dip in the high mid-range (if they're not mastered seperately, this makes them sound "warmer") and the worse signal-to-noise ratio, because you always get noise from dust on the record, the type of needle your using etc., this higher noise floor is very subtle but it makes the overall experience a bit less harsh because abrupt low-volume parts a being "filled in" with noise. Solid state amps and digital plug-ins at this day and age can sound just as good as tube amps if built properly (which they often aren't because most of them are cheap products), to the point where you wouldn't be able to consistently tell a difference in a blind test. Sound engineers have been frustrated with musicians for decades because musicians like to hear with their eyes and their beliefs. It is all just confirmation bias.

@@Law0fRevenge Two things, I don't believe in a myth, I'm just expressing my experience listening to the two. Second, when it comes to tube amplifiers, I'm mostly talking about guitar amps. That might also just be an experience thing that the audience never hears, but if it makes a difference to me, it makes a difference...

@@Law0fRevenge Yes, all of the musicians and engineers who prefer the sound of tube amps and compressors are idiots who only imagine a difference. Solid state equipment and plug-ins CAN sound very SIMILAR to tube amps and other equipment, by emulating them. But all of those engineers and musicians are still using tubes, if they can afford them, to get that sound, because they CAN tell the difference. It's slight, but there. You trying to lecture people on what they can and can't hear is absurd, because you don't have perfect hearing. Nobody does. You have no possible way of knowing what another person can or cannot hear, you only know what you can hear.

I was absolutely amazed at the difference I felt when you are playing a song tuned to 432 versus 440. I closed my eyes so that I wouldn't let my mind override me and I swear when I went back and re-watched with my eyes open every time you played tuned to 440hz my skin heated up, my heartbeat increased, and so did my anxiety. Not even kidding. 432 was SO much more relaxing. You're a great player by the way! 💖

The sand creates geometric shapes and always tlreturnes to the same shape for each particular frequency ... the funny thing is out of those shapes there is a mathematical equation that will give you the frequency that made it 👀🤯🤯🤯🤯 sound is sooooooo more important than we know 🙌 ✌️💚☯️🔱

I agree with your comments about a second being an arbitrary measure, and much of the lore around 432Hz being unscientific nonsense. I work as a sound tech, and have a good understanding of acoustic principles. Yet this video demonstrates for me that I have a strong preference for 432Hz tuning. Subjectively I'd describe 432Hz tuning as warmer, richer, more emotionally evocative, calmer, and more natural, whereas by comparison, 440hz tuning sounds overly bright, a touch strident or shrill, the harmonics seem less integrated with the fundamental tone, and emotionally 440hz seems a little unsettling (I can see why many associate 440Hz with anxiety). There's something to this, regardless of our lack of understanding of the scientific mechanism involved.
@thismoment75395 жыл бұрын
A second is arbitrary, but the Schumann resonance, the fundamental tone of the earth that he measured, isn't. It would exist no matter how we measured it -- if a second were longer, or shorter, it would just be measured differently, and so would the corresponding pitches. So, that argument doesn't hold up for me. I am a musician and studio owner, so I feel you on these things. I respond the same way. Tracks I've recorded at 432 feel different and have a much greater presence and seem to flow into your ears in a different way. My question, now, for an upcoming record is....... if tracks have only instruments that can tune to 432, like no piano or accordion or set things, should I do that, when I know that others will need to be at 440 to accomodate instruments that are not flexible in their tuning. Anyway, getting involved here, but wanted to share that thought about seconds.

So clearly explained, especially (at 440Hz) "harmonics seem less integrated with fundamental tone". For my ears/senses, the ratios of tones in A=432Hz are more rich and varied, more interesting harmonics that had some kind of relationship and general warmth.

I am 63 and was skeptical. Wish you were here is my favorite song. Listening to this with my Bose headphones and eyes closed I truly felt more relaxed listening to it at 432 and really was getting deeply involved in the song. Then the 440 tuned version came on and I immediately noticed a difference in how I felt listening to it. On some of the chords it would cause my eyelids to flinch because it grated on my nerves quite a bit. I just started to research frequencies and harmonics recently and for instance I tried listening to a 40Hz binaural frequency last night for the first time before going to bed. 40Hz is in sync with gamma wave production in the brain. I have had a major back surgery and haven’t had a decent sleep in 4 months. I fell asleep in my recliner with the phone on my chest playing the 40Hz note. I woke up about an hour later from a beautiful deep sleep and went to bed. I awoke at 7 feeling quite refreshed after 6 more hours of good sleep and got up and took a mile walk. Normally I can’t get up that early (I go to bed late because sleeping in the bed sort of sucks) and it usually takes me an hour or two to get my body functional before I walk and usually not a mile straight. I’m not skeptical anymore and I’m going to keep looking into the healing power of frequency specific harmonics. Sapien medicine on Spotify is a good place to start. The 40Hz binaural is also there. I will be listening to the 40Hz binaural again tonight in hopes that I will sleep well again because I don’t think it was a fluke or coincidence. I’m no longer skeptical but open minded to the possibilities here. I usually don’t air my opinion on videos but felt compelled to do so now. I hope this will help someone else to experiment with this and benefit as I’m praying it benefits me! Take care all.

I purposely turned my screen away from me, and did not look at it, until the video finished, all the while writing my observations and sensations on paper in front of me. I did this at my desktop with professional audio equipment and studio reference monitors, and repeated this process with my phone, though I had my friend randomly scramble the sequence of which frequency recording played first and second. The next day we repeated this several times, but now, we scrambled ALL of it he audio clips using several different random number generators to determine the order of play. When we compiled the data we were shocked. 100% of the trials we preferred the 432 Hz versions, and said 100% of the time that the 440 Hz sounded somehow out of tune (even in the one 432 performance when one of the strings sounds like itvwas left slightly out of tune (intentionally?). We repeated each method several more times over the weeks that followed and never were below 80% on preference favoring the 432. We also used other pieces of music and the results remained consistent. I began tuning my basses and guitars to A=432 a few years ago just based on a somewhat OCD preference for the number. My friend tuned all his instruments to A=440 until this experience. We have on occasion repeated this experiment with others, musicians and non-musicians, and of those that did express a preference or opinion, it was remarkably consistent with our results, with those numbers never dropping below 73-% preferring the 432. I don’t have time to go into the qualitative assessments and statements, nor am he striking emotional responses, which were felt most strongly, surprisingly to me, by those with the least experience with musical instruments. I’m not a conspiracy theorist and I have no vested interest either way. Everyone is free to listen to whatever you like.

While the possibility does sound quite intriguing, between starting a new business, trying to maintain and run our household, dealing with an illness in the family, and most importantly, being the best dad I can be to my two young children, I barely have time to WATCH KZbin videos. Having never made a KZbin video, it would seem to be something that can be time consuming with a pretty good learning curve. Our little experiment took place over a few days when we were waiting for tooling for our shop, so work was at a stand still. Thankfully, we are far from a stand still now! Besides, I've already been challenged to create my first video showing how to create a great (or useable even) bass tone for metal music, because I had the audacity to have, and share, an opinion that running a basically unaltered DI signal, and a signal with all the low end removed and, "distorted to the point of sounding like s***," then, "stomp it down with massive compression," seemed an uninspired approach to me, and was the same approach taken by the last 12 KZbin videos I had seen. The exact same approach. Thank all of you who have posted comments and responses here. What I've been able to read has been a great conversation.

If any of you still listen to LP's, that's what it reminded me of: the difference between a record and a CD. A=440 sounds like a CD, very crisp, very clear, but also metallic and impersonal A=432 sounds like a record, more warm and inviting, less crisp but more emotional I know these are very subjective, and some people don't notice anything, but that was the experience I got. As far as all these thousands of YT vids with specific frequencies, I think the main thing going on is placebo effect. Regardless of the video or the frequencies, you get a benefit from taking time for yourself to relax and meditate, not because they tuned their synthesizers to exactly 432, or 369 hz or whatever.

It just seems to be where it s soul is. Obviously, when you have to work alongside other instruments it's not ideal, but for anyone with an acoustic that they think might not be giving them the best tones, it'll be because it's ot tuned to the best tuning that optimises 'that' specific guitar. Once you find your acoustic guitars tuning sweet spot, trust me, you'll know. It'll come to life, and will inspire you like you won't believe
