Best way to get kills with it: 3-4km out from above and behind the enemy, most enemies won't notice you and the trail will be gone by the time they turn around. 1-0.5km against a low speed enemy, most will dump flares but it won't matter as they can't pull hard enough to make them work.

4:31 the only real difference is a hidden value in the missile file. The seeker track rate of the Aim-9G is 12 degrees per second. The AIm-9H's is 20. Theoretically, this allows for sharper movement as higher aspects assuming you have some airspeed. Or it allows for a cleaner track on VIOLENTLY maneuvering targets. Save for that, nothing really for what can be modeled in game outside failure rates (please god no).

AIM-9H has better track rate(20 degrees/s compared to 12), so it is much less likely to lose lock on sudden manouvers.

So I am a little late, but track rate really does not matter above 10, since the stat is essentially the missile's responsiveness time for updating the lock (you know, making sure it's still tracking a heat signature and all). Now, it certainly doesn't hurt to have more of it, but this stat only matters if the enemy decides to yolo a 12-13G turn in a last-ditch effort to make the missile go inert from losing the FOV of the signature. Needless to say, such turns bleed so much speed that even the Phantom II, mid at dogfighting as it is, will make short work of them.

As far as the cannon pod goes for the F-4J/S, I feel it's a preference/scenario thing. Most times, I will carry a pod for that backup firepower. However, if I'm in a larger squad and we're working coms, I may opt to ditch it in favor of that extra performance boost for BVR. Then I just orbital strike people with the sidewinders. Not always a good idea to run without, but it has its times.

cool tip, when using the phantoms sidewinders with hmd dont fire the missle if the target you are tracking is above your canopy. The missle kinda just doesnt track the target after launch as you see in this vid 13:46

The only complaint i have about the f4s compared to the f4j is that it is a good bit slower due to the slats. For a missle bus id rather take the speed but with the big maps every game i think the f4s is the best premium until you get within 15km of targets then id differ to the mig23ml. It also basically gets preferred matchmaking by having to fight less f14s

@@Leander_Thorben_Fux That is entirely up to you; neither of them is outright better than the other. At this point in time, I would personally recommend the F-4S. Although it really depends on what you like. Here is some things to consider: - The F-5C is a extremely good if not the best 10.3 dogfighter, but it is very much a gunfighter and not a missile slinger. In order to do well in the F-5C you need to be able to dogfight effectively. - The F-4S is not a dogfighter, and is much easier to get kills with. But, the radar takes some time getting used to and top tier can be very chaotic. - F-4S comes with more premium time, more Golden Eagles, and it does earn slightly more RP than the F-5C. - F-5C earns +120% more SL. (750% vs 630%) - F-5C can't be used to unlock rank 8 vehicles efficiently, the F-4S can unlock rank 8 vehicles.

"Reaction time" is better on the on the 9H in the game files, no idea what that does... Depending on who you ask, there is either no difference between the 9G and the 9H, or the 9H is a lot more flare resistant (there is no proof of the latter in the game files). I impulse bought this thing after going on a huge loss streak in the Mig-23M. Honestly one of my best spending decisions yet. The bundled in premium time let me geind all the way up to about the F-100 in the tech tree, going from pretty much 0. That much grind in 2-3 weeks is not bad. It's actually a great plane to learn radar combat on, as it doesn't have an overwhelming ammount of radar modes, just two, plus the ACM and HMD versions of both. It shows the differences of pulse and pulse doppler great, and I say it prepares a pilot for top tier combat leagues better than the F-5C can. If you grind out the F-16/F-14 in your F-5C, without touching anything else, you'll have no god damn clue how the mor advanced weapon systems work and you'll end up resorting to the ol' reliable F-5 tactic of "hold elevator untill enemy in crosshair", which will get you killed at top tier

The F4s is a surprisingly good bomber so long as you know how to hide from enemies. Unlike other jets such as the F-14B or the F5c that have a great top speed and so can get a base before the enemy is ready to fight, the F4s is sluggish and much slower especially if running a full bomb payload and so it helps to know how to fly low, notch radar, and just avoid being spotted in the first place. I can get usually 2 basses before needing to rearm.

Not really a replacement for knowing what you're doing... but that is really just positioning in that range so... just show up to the battle at the right time, and click on your enemies. Pretty easy... not sure about fun, but certainly easy.

For those who enjoy the F-4J, this plane is still worth 70$ even if you have the entire tree, it's a premium. So you get to use your favorite airframe with the advantages of: 1) when a new plane comes out you will research it fast. 2) you will make a shit ton more money due to SL boost from it being a premium (without needing premium time) 3) it's a premium so it's repair cost is actually sane and affordable for normal people. Basically impossible to go negative unless you literally head-on everyone and not fire a single thing and just die with the SL boost. 4) you can be more relaxed and try new and fun things due to not needing to worry about losing SL. Basically you can have fun and not need to be a sweat. The only thing I can say isn't great about it is that the flares are upwards firing rather than downwards firing which IMO and in my logic would be better.

The F4s can actually retain energy decently in shallow turns. But if you yank on that stick and pull the surface and leading edge flaps along with the Ailerons you stoppin. Also people miss that you can radar Slave the AIM9H Also yes it is worth it to fly without the gun pod. You really only run into situations where you need it when you don’t have it BECAUSE you are just flighty more maneuverable and quicker. So then you put it on and lose just enough of both to miss the opportunity to use it 90% of the time and just get slower for using it.

2:48 i have just reached that point, slaughtering Mig 21's and Mig 23's does get boring after a while, but with 15 750lbs bombs you can kill 2 bases and then go and missile fight like normal. In a normal game with 1 or 2 kills you can get 4k rp, with bombings that's 6-8k. In a good game, you can get 12k rp with no premium (3 kills, 2 bases). Whomstever, you will get mobbed before even getting bombs out in 1/4 games.

Hey Walvis wanna thank you for the video as it is very informative. I bought the F4S a few days ago and played some 2 dozen games but I’m struggling a bit. It’s not all on the plane but I personally having some issue keeping a radar lock people. I typically try to get a lock and fire the sparrow at 15-5km, but feels like doing so gives my opponent ample of time to notch.(or even just a mild turn feels plenty enough to confuse the Phantom radar) Should I try to lock at a even closer range so it doesn’t tip them off? The other thing is how chaotic 32 player match is at top tier, it snowballs really hard often one fur ball decides the match, and me being an average player feels really powerless to affect the match. I can somewhat hold my own in those small engagements but in top tier that feels very uncommon, at least compares to 10-11.0. At that BR bracket I can be on the offensive while juggling a bandit on my six as long as I keep out of his guns and have flares. However in top tier I feel like I’ll get killed by radar missile if I take my eyes off RWR for a second. Are there any general pointers for top tier gameplay that could help? I realize that’s a whole lot of questions and I appreciate your time!

The F-4S' radar is great and honestly really reliable. However, I only realized how reliable it is once I understood exactly how it works. Watching some videos about how pulse Doppler radar works on YT might help a ton in terms of gaining insight into what you radar can actually see, and what it can't. This doesn't have to be a WT specfic video, there is a pretty good explanation of PD radar from James May for example. Personally I fire the 7Fs around 6km, but only at targets who I'm confident do not have enough time / space to notch the radar. 16 vs 16 players was a horrible change. The best advice I can give is: - Hug the deck; all radars loose track when you get close to the ground. - Keep your speed up; don't turn / dogfight with individual enemies unless you are very late in the match. - Try to force as many headons as you can. I hope this helps.

Note: F-4S also gets HMD which is a huge upgrade but imo not worth $70. The lack of all aspect IR missiles, especially ones like R-73 makes it not as useful but in rear aspect you can still pull off some high off boresight shots. I have the MiG-29 and the HMD is definitely a great thing to have.

I do agree with tailsman for the F-4J but the F-4S would save me having to grind almost the top of the A-10 late tech tree bc Gaijin decided to bump up the F-14A to rank 8 so now I can’t unlock it u til I get the A-10 late so 1 the F-4S w the 17 day premium helps unlock the F-16 and counts as having a rank 7 fighter 🤷‍♂️

Could do a video on the German MiG-21 Lazur M.. all MiG-21s catch my attention.. i still remember the MiG-21F-13 when it came out yeah it had 60 rounds but I basically circled the enemy staying above 1000kmh as they tried catch me and stalling and I looped over and killed them.. I am at a major stand off between the F-4s and the MiG-21 Lazur M I love both equally but only going to pick one and would like a outside opinion

Edit: putting bombs on the F-4s Phantom is really smart... I was on a a Ec map with the F-5c equipped with 2 missiles and 18x 250kg bombs, by the time I took off the F-4s wad already 3-4 clicks from me with the 6 radar guided missiles, the 4 9hs and bombs.. Let's just say this a Tu-4 can take off faster than a F-5c loaded with bombs and missiles..
