The Firechickens were the best looking and most iconic cars of the 70s. All the coolest dudes had one...Rockfurd, Bandit, Ponch. And in the Furd corner we had...Kelly, Jill and Sabrina. 🤣🤣🤣

I think FAST is my favorite racing series. Love that Dual Gate - don't think those came out as a drop-in for 2nd gen F bodies till the late '70s or early '80s. An older kid in my neighborhood had a '70-'73 base Firebird in this color in the late '70s, but his was a rust bucket and had the inline six with the dreaded column shifted automatic/bucket seats combo.

Great video, Campy and Dave! Love Dave's Bird. Simply, it's the perfect combination of beauty and speed. Personally, I think the early 2nd generation Birds are the best looking Pony cars ever made.

I've always preferred the Firebird Formula over the Trans Am. Not that I'd kick a classic Trans Am outta the bed, just like the understated look of the Firebird Formula. The twin scoop hood looks great on the Formula, especially with those 5 spoke rally wheels.

Another great find, Campster. Being in Ct., I've probably seen Dave run this at LVD. I started droolin when you said "480+ cubes, and 12-1 compression". Very nice. Can't wait ta see this thing with 3.73s. High elevens is definitely impressive in this all steel car, with D port heads. Maybe someone can convince him to install an M-22 with the up-grades. :) Thanks for the ride, guys.

Why would you change to an M22 4 speed? The car will be slower in the 1/4 mile than an automatic...especially with factory stock tires..60' times would suffer with the 4 speed with 2.20 1st gear ratio.
@joequillun77904 ай бұрын
@@billdedrick1914 It's a generational thing. If you're under 40 yrs old, you won't understand. And you may be right. Because most people now-a-days don't know how to drive a stick shift...properly. But most people put automatics behind Pontiacs, because they won't bust up the drive-train like a stick will.

Campy, great car to video. Looks really nice. I'm surprised the car only is in the high elevens. I think there is more in it like you said. I don't race, but I am a Pontiac addict. I have several T/A's that have been worked on. The first is a '78 with a 406 CID, another '78 with a 461 CID, a '73 with a 496 CID and has SD455 heads, a '70 with a 433 CID and 722 heads (RAIV) and the last is my first T/A an '87 with the L98 350 and is all stock. I have owned 3:Firebirds in younger days 1967 400 4 speed ,1969 formula firebird 400 4:speed ,and finally a 1978 formula 400 4 speed .The 1969 was a beast and funnest cars I've ever driven I seen 135 mph on a freeway and fastest I've ever been .These earlier models were geared for 160 mph and more HP and higher low end torque with transmission ! The 67 and 69 were scary ass fast and in these years 1967 1969 models the tunnel ram hood was a must !Id love to send a photo in 1985 with 1969 when I was only weeks past 2 year tour in Germany Little .did I know these were the best years of my life to date !

Adding a 3.73 gear and suspension work will not improve 1/4 mile mph from 114 to 120....That can only be done by increasing engine HP or lowering weight significantly. 114 mph trap speed suggests that this car should run 11.50-11.60..if it can improve the 60' time..
