One thing I find fascinating is why is the fall of France is a death blow to the entente, but the fall of Russia isn’t, when I play if Russia falls the entente often still wins, but not France, I’m sure it’s down to a million little factors, really shows all the effort a and a put into making this game
@TheHilltopPillbox4 жыл бұрын
Interesting thoughts...I agree. Perhaps it's because while Germany was focused on Moscow, the UK and French were able to build up massive forces that can now push eastward. Just a guess.

Nice video mate. Would still love to see you play with the Tournament Rules with the CP receiving a bid of 12 (this seems the most balanced), the only difference we do is instead of the time limit we play for 6 full rounds as seasoned players would get this many rounds in within the time limit and it allows us to play the game over more than 1 session. With these rules in place, no limit is required to be put on India (which is a house rule often used). Keep the vids coming.

I love 1914. It became my favorite, over classic and global, when i bought it. Sorry I cannot agree with you on the rights thing though. I do believe in the American phrase of "we are born with certain unalienable rights." Life, liberty, and the persuit to happiness. I am not in the military, but i serve with them overseas, as a pilot. As for the game, I feel bad for your Austrians. I usually take romania and serbia first turn, and have a gigantic force to smash russia in austrian 2nd turn.
@TheHilltopPillbox4 жыл бұрын
The beauty of rights is the extent to which people wish to exercise them. But, there are many who are not born with those rights, and that is why I am thankful for those who fought to ensure that I and my family have them. I must be rolling wrong...but, they did better this game in the later rounds!

Thanks for your message about individual rights at the beginning of this episode, I feel like that's an important topic to contextualize today in the western world. It's nice to see some of the person behind the camera, really brought out the social science side you clearly have lol!
@TheHilltopPillbox4 жыл бұрын
Thanks for listening to the whole speech - although it's important to many, some will skip to the dice. I am always fearful that we will let our gratitude slip away and then find ourselves wanting what we so easily gave up. I teach Social Studies in high school, and my goal every year is to send out students who actually care about their civil rights, and where they came from.
@adamdrumheller74304 жыл бұрын
@@TheHilltopPillbox Always willing to turn my ear to a thoughtful speech! I can tell you're a good teacher with that kind of mindset and goal. As much as our rights are viewed as guaranteed, they have a price and are ultimately granted.

Have you ever considered using the ‘only one round of attacking per turn’ rule in any other axis and allies version? It seems like an interesting concept that could change the dynamic of standard WW2 ones.
@TheHilltopPillbox19 күн бұрын
I just saw this...weird. Anyways, we did try that once, for about half a game of Anniversary. It really favoured the Allies, as it bought time for the Americans to get in before the Axis could get through to Moscow, which is KEY in that version! Thanks for watching and commenting!
@varovaro19674 жыл бұрын
I proposed the Munich rule, still Switzerland should be impassable and Bombay has to limit production to IPCs number. I don’t use that Italian rule, I just make them enter on turn two as it happened historically (1915), i use zeppelins from HBG to carry German troops to Africa. All of the above evens the game quite a bit. Thank you and wise words of introduction for the video!
@TheHilltopPillbox4 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the idea! How do your zeppelins work? 2 infantry each? Is there a particular area they arrive in? Thanks in advance!
@varovaro19674 жыл бұрын
@@TheHilltopPillbox As an air transport the Zeppelin may carry any one infantry-class unit in non-combat movement only. It may move to, and pick up passengers but must land when it delivers its cargo. The Zeppelin in this role may be taken as a combat casualty but only if it is the last unit remaining. The Zeppelins may participate in ground combat as an attacking unit and may be taken as a casualty only if the enemy has fighters in the area to contest the airship. Zeppelins may alternatively strategically bomb key facilities and cities, successfully hitting on a 2 or less. If successful, roll one D6 and the result is the amount of damage the Zeppelin has dealt to the target. They move 6.

@superilikeeggsyo4 жыл бұрын
@@TheHilltopPillbox I'm not sure, really, since I didn't pay attention to your explanation on your house rules at the start of the video (multitasking). Did you give yourself a limit on how many units you can build in India each turn? I ask because in my experience, UK is best off going 100% Europe (i.e. defending France, trying to open a flank on Germany, etc.) *or* 100% India (i.e. defeating Ottomans ASAP, defending Russia's southern flank via Sevastopol/Ukraine if needed). A mix of both tends to lead to a bad outcome in both parts of the map.

@@superilikeeggsyo I just saw this...weird that I never did before. I believe I played with a 5 unit limit, which I think is the OOB rules. We have tried the "no-limit" for India, but it draws a lot of UK money, and then Paris is hard-pressed. Thanks for watching and commenting!
