GW39 is a great game, great map. Looks like you both had great fun.
@TheHilltopPillbox2 ай бұрын
Yes, we did have great fun! Unfortunately, neither of us had a great game. So many mistakes...but we learn from them, right?

I absolutely love this map!
@TheHilltopPillbox2 ай бұрын
Agreed - it is easy to look at and interpret. Less likely to lose pieces, too!

Always fun to do a 1v1 in a big game like this not just axis and allies
@TheHilltopPillbox2 ай бұрын
It is fun! Lots to take care of as the Allied player, though...so many nations!

Wow bring USA in early. Brave !!
@TheHilltopPillbox2 ай бұрын
Yeah, I didn't want to lose my sneak attack, although it wasn't very good...but even if I didn't attack the USA, they would have been in due to my unprovoked attack on the Commonwealth. I didn't handle Japan particularly well this game...

Where can I find a copy of this 39 map and rules? Entertaining as always. Note: you just cannot attack your own Canadians.
@TheHilltopPillbox2 ай бұрын
Yeah, it's tough, but necessary. You can order the map from here, and the rules are available for download, although some minor changes are being made. www.historicalboardgaming.com/Global-War-1939_ep_71-1.html

How big is the map in comparison to the global 1940?
@TheHilltopPillbox2 ай бұрын
It comes in different sizes. I think this one was the 4X8 foot...maybe a bit smaller.
@luukvst10322 ай бұрын
What i dont like about how GW39 works is that you have "sneak attacks" which are the most predictable attacks possible, and that you use the navy to attack india and los angeles. I understand it makes sense with the rules but it just doesnt seem to me like it should
@TheHilltopPillbox2 ай бұрын
I was around during some of the early discussions, and it really was difficult, almost impossible, for Japan to have any impact on the USA without some bonus with a sneak attack. Taking San Francisco used to be impossible, but now it is on the table, although I didn't do a very good job this time...
@luukvst10322 ай бұрын
@@TheHilltopPillbox i dont disagree with what you say here and i completely understand. My issue is is that japan (and germany too, as seen with leningrad) are doing incredibly unorthodox attacks relative to what would have happened in the real war because of how this works? Perhaps by saying that the americans arent allowed to move fleets (with the exception of built boats and convoys)? You probably have thought of that before but im curious to what the reasoning was for not implementing this
@luukvst10322 ай бұрын
And to add to this. Maybe to force the surprise attack to areas that are within 1 turns worth of movement from any previousily japanese islands? This would limit them to areas that make sense, like singapore, hawaii or manila but not san fransisco
@TheHilltopPillbox2 ай бұрын
@@luukvst1032 Well, the way it is written now seems to strike a nice balance to wins and losses for each side, but as with all games, you can certainly house-rule things and see how they go!

Is there actually any differente between every axis and Allies d Day editions?
@TheHilltopPillbox2 ай бұрын
As far as I know, there is only one actual A&A D-Day. There are many D-Day games, including the one I just developed with HBG!

Can AA Guns fire during a sneak attack?
@TheHilltopPillbox2 ай бұрын
Great question! As it now stands, no, they cannot. Since the AA guns typically fire at the start of the first round of combat, and the defenders do not fire on the first round, the AA just sits there and gets used as a casualty.
