Making Flash be the only character that moves like a DBZ character would definitely make him feel like the fastest man alive.

@snuffysam7 ай бұрын
@@Motorata661I mean, not all of Flash’s villains are speedsters. Half of them are, sure lol, but there are still characters like Grodd & Cold & Mirror Master that usually have some trick to deal with his speed. So there’s ways to design a Flash moveset around fighting non-speedsters.

Would it kill NRS to have their characters be more expressive in their animations? I know that Injustice has a dark tone, but it's not like there isn't humor at all!

This is exactly why I hate the direction Injustice took as a DC fan. So many people act like functions and mechanics are the only thing that matter in fighting games, but even for a lot of competitive players that's not entirely true. You can't imagine how often I've picked a main or an whole team in something like MvC based off of their aesthetics and how they look and feel in motion. Of course I still had to make considerations for matchups and team composition, but even then I did my best to use a character that got me hype. Even when the meta inevitably required that I pick up someone that didn't interest me in the slightest in case I ran into some bullshit in pools, I didn't bust that shit out unless absolutely necessary. To make my poorly related point, I kind of feel the same way about NRS games. Even if it's a mechanically great game (animation aside, NRS games have always felt kind of stiff to me and I'm not a fan of dial-a-combo), there are other games that play just as well _and_ have great animation. Why would I play the game with the bland, jank animations when I can play the one with the expressive and hype looking shit? Especially if both games are equally mechanically sound?

I was super happy when he was in SF5 and his new outfit is really cool, he's also not awful like in CvS2 so I can actually play him competitively, though at this point I'm torn between him and Juri because she's nuts and really cool looking. Likewise I picked up Azrael and Terumi/Hazama as my guys in BlazBlue, their attitudes, outfits and powers look awesome.
@RaspK6 жыл бұрын
Ironically, I think the best animation (in terms of both faith to the source material and delivering a sense of extraordinary speed) would be for the sprite to begin with a typical _perfectly still_ stance, both feet on the ground, then a mad dash whenever he moves (which is basically how he moves in the comics; he literally has no reason to be quick on his feet unless he wants to be, meaning he literally never does so unless he feels the need to, which might seem counterintuitive without seeing it on page or screen, but it really sells itself immediately when first seen). This can be extremely effective with teleport moves and teleport attacks, because that's part of the big deal with the Flash in the first place. How balanced can that be is a wholly correlated matter, however, if anticipation and well-timed counters to them are built in, I think it's perfectly doable.
@night19526 жыл бұрын
That's how Chipp from GG is animated as well. His idle stance is wide and relaxed, just like his walking animations, until he starts running and attacking then he's the fastest character.

Edited: The fact that the DC characters in M.U.G.E.N have the best gameplay mechanics than Netherrealm has. (note: the character Flash in a game M.U.G.E.N is obviously unfair, too op & a cheater but that's the point of his character because he's clearly fast right?, just like how Saitama can one punch most of the characters in that game. For those who knew about M.U.G.E.N. you can lose the lifebar of the 2nd Player by pressing F1 but if you put Saitama in Player 2 pressing F1, he's just standing there. Similar to the game "A Hero Nobody Knows" if you do a Saitama vs Saitama fight nothings happens to him.) In conclusion this is most of what i'm about to say anyway...

Started to follow your channel a week ago because I really agree with you about the problems with Netherealm Studios animation in their games. And you provided me the answer! Hahahahaha! One HUGE thing that bother me too is, the whole character design. They all have the same bodies sizes. The thing that differ them is small things... Injustice 2 is correcting this in a way with Hellboy and the TMNT... What do tyou think about bring this subject to the table? Awesome work, dude! Congratulations and keep on going! =]
@SugarPunch6 жыл бұрын
Regarding body types, it is actually true that Injustice 2 doesn't really have much in the way of differentiating body types. Aside from Hellboy, the Turtles, and Grodd, characters usually fall into one of three different physiques: athletic male (Superman, Batman, virtually everyone else), bigger athletic male (Atrocitus, Swamp Thing, etc.), and female. Injustice 1 actually had this problem with its large characters: Grundy, Lex Luthor, Bane, and Doomsday pretty much had the same overall physique and likely the same animation rig. Games like Street Fighter and the later King of Fighters games use physique as part of their design philosophy to great effect, because a character's physique is also a visual cue as to what a character is capable of or what they can do; you've got your stocky muscle like Ryu, or your top-heavy muscle like Alex, or your MUSCLE muscle like Zangief, but you also have your svelt, lean guys like Yun/Yang, wirey guys like Dhalsim, or hunchbacks like Blanka or Necro. Even the females show great variety in physique for the sake of communicating game function: long limbed Chun-Li and Elena have great normals, lightweights like Cammy or Sakura are fleet-footed, thicker bods like Mika or Kolin are ready to get up close and personal, etc.. It's a visual design philosophy that I've always been fond of because it's tied directly to gameplay, and good design should always do its best to inform game functions without saying a single word. However, because Injustice is based on western comics, it is *technically* true to the source material that everyone has these perfect herculean physiques. This is a problem that is largely endemic to western cape comics in general, and although western comic heroes have always historically been modeled after Olympian strongmen, I think a fighting game adaptation is a fine place to start really fine tuning the differences in heroes' physiques for the sake of visual communication. Flash shouldn't be built like Batman or Superman, he should be leaner, thinner, but still fit; like an Olympic track runner. Same with the younger heroes like Blue Beetle and Firestorm. Supernaturally strong heroes like Superman or Aquaman ought to have broader chests or thicker arms to emphasize their herculean might. Capcom's Marvel-based fighting games actually do a pretty good job of differentiating heroes' physiques to great effect; you've got your standard heroic leader-types like Cyclops and Captain America, you've got Wolverine who's short and stocky but also full of rage and energy, you have your lithe, skill-based heroes like Gambit or Spiderman who rely on dexterity more than raw strength, and then your muscle monsters like Venom, Hulk or Juggernaut to really push the image of titanic strength. There's definitely a nice middle ground between comic book idealizied bodies and wacky fighting game bodies that can be reached, and it's a shame that Netherrealm doesn't really seem interested in stylizing their models, which is a shame because when they DO choose to stylize (Hellboy/Turtles), it actually looks great. -A.B.I.

@YoshioKST6 жыл бұрын
I agree with this video so much it's painful, no wonder you wanted to work on this since Injustice 1. I'd like to know what you think of this gap closer in Injustice 2 that can move through almost fullscreen in the blink of an eye; Again the character doesn't lift their feet, but it's not quite as troublesome because the dash is so fast, the move is over before you even notice it begins. It's Catwoman's back-forward medium (Meterburn), 'cause Allen can't move move worth a damn in this game. As for Flash's own back-foward medium, Injustice 2 relegated it to a running stance exclusive, but it's always been ridiculous: nevermind sliding; Flash would just fly across the screen in a Superman stance. Except rather than have a fist forward, he'd just hold his elbow up until it came into contact with his opponent the laziest bullet alive.

His attacks looks stylish just as his outfit looks (and his outfit does reflect his presence too as in he's slithery and mysterious Especially with His Fedora) He uses butterfly knife as weapon because snakes can hide their fangs and show them to intimidate their foe and also the knife sound just like a rattle snake whenever used (also His Drive attacks by using chains, because snakes) And especially his beaten animation and voice that's so sarcastic and mocking to the enemy making it seems like he's weak and toying with them but in reality he's a monster. The monster aspect can be seen easy from His knifes moves and distortion moves where you'll get kicked out to space, mercilessly slicing and stomping you over and over, and then taunting while torturing you. And He also have an ability that sucks their oppenent life bit by bit which compliment his snake persona as in it works like snake venom and also because he's just a sadistic monster that loves to kill people slowly. There's a lot more with him but I can only note those for now. Hope you'll review BlazBlue roster animation because God damn ain't BlazBlue animation is just beautiful to see.

What are your opinions on SFV's 4 brand new characters and the 2 announced original characters? I LOVE Abigail
@kingsadvisor186 жыл бұрын
He already did the first four, I realize now that season 2 does indeed have five not four original characters and season 3 has two. So I mean Kolin, Ed, Abigail, Zeku, Menat, Falke, and G. For the 4 in season 2 detailed analysis is possible but only general impressions for Falke and G

Carlton Banks would be the BEST MK clone character.

It would be cool if during Flash’s Relativity his attacks caused blur lines that didn’t disappear until everything went back to normal speed

Believe it or not, NetherRealm needs people like u. I'm so in Luv with MK that I am unable to see the negative on first sight. Ur able to add outside criticism to help approve NR animation, how else would they be able to right there wrong. You should of recieved invitation by the way!

Ill agree the injustice animations are a bit....how you say...stubby but in high level gameplay the flash most certainly feels fast. I wouldnt complain if he got a few tweeks to make him feel even faster tho.
@zombieguy44442 жыл бұрын
I think one of the biggest problem is that, since Flash is mocapped, the only way they could make him move fast is speeding up the mocapped animation And that makes the attacks look weak

All the movement in Injustice is slow. Going from playing SoulCalibur to this makes you feel like a turtle.
@zyco91884 жыл бұрын
Yh but injustice focuses a lot on neutral game and character utilities, whereas full screen in soulcaliber isn’t even that big at all.

Case in point, Sephiroth from Dissidia Final Fantasy games. He's one of the slower characters, but you won't feel it from using or fighting him.

I'd personally give flash a flash step, which while it could be a bit op against those poor characters with out projectiles, would be entirely true to his character. Maybe sell it with him literally going from standing to 2m and a sprint recovery, effectively he would be nightcrawler teleporting and recovering in a matter of 2 or 3 frames.

You should talk about green lanterns boring green constructs, all the power of animation and a character that can make anything, all of it wasted on a bat and mini gun.
