Animals stuck in captivity seem to abuse their babies a lot worse....keeping primates especially in enclosures seems cruel, they're too smart to be caged up that small and retain their sanity, just like humans and prison confinrment

Whomever is running that place are complete idiots. This poor baby is being mistreated by its older brother. The mother is trying her best to keep them apart. The mother is so stressed out. This is a horrible situation but a easy fix. The brother needs to be place in another cage on his own but but close enough so he could still see his mom and sibling. This Gibson monkey are endangered and they should be doing everything in their power to keep this baby and mother, safe and healthy. Not being thrown around a cage like a ragdoll.

The brother is clearly a almost, of not FULLY grown adult male whom at that age is no longer living in the family group in the wild. They're normally off establishing a home range of their own and finding a mate (which they pair bond for life. One of only 3 mammals known to so.) He is trying to dominate the female and the territory, even though,yes, is his Mom.

If you can't give these Gibions a proper home, let them go back to the wild where they belong. You expect all these different animals live together in an area thats the size of a small home for 1. This was SO NERVE WRACKING to watch...My heart is still pounding...It's a miracle that tiny fragile, looking baby "Uta" wasn't dropped from the rope...& didn't suffer serious injury as "Mom" pretty aggressively snatched him away from big brother...Gibbons are such beautiful creatures...

This is also an exercise in training them to hang on and how to keep their grip. Any of the family can and will take the baby for lessons. You can tell when the mother's don't feel they are ready for some of it. That's when she'll go take baby back. When baby fell you could tell immediately the monkey didn't intend for that to happen. That older monkey was shocked and worried. Their physical resilience is nothing short of amazing.

@@michellemace6775 This is not a matter of jealousy. It was a teaching moment. Mom didn't like how vigorous it was getting and took baby back. But after settling, mom decided, since the baby was willing to go back with the other monkey, (if they feel unsafe or don't like a particular monkey they will not want to be held by them or go to them), unlike macaques, gibbon babies will not just grip and hang on to whoever has them. As soon as Gibbon Monkeys see mom and she's reaching out for baby, that baby with go for mom releasing the grip on whoever has him or her. But that older monkey did not mean to drop baby. He or she just got to frisky with the infant.

Tammy Smith mom does not like it hanging on and pulling her hair so she constantly gives him from herself and just hangs him somewhere (even knowing bug brother will grab him as soon as she moves away and will try to cling him to the ground!) Then when mom sees brother trying to harm him she retrieves him but then puts him on the side again and leaves him!! Constant cycle!

Because she's trying to rescue the baby from the brother but then when she grabs the baby it's always trying to feed so she pries it off of her since she doesn't want to feed it... Literally every time it latches on she pulls it right off... I'm surprised this poor baby still alive!!!

This zoo needs to be reported and I for one am going to find out if there is anything that can be done.....this baby was abused the entire video.....brother acts like he's a toy and the mom doesn't want him hanging onto her, she always pulls him off and makes him hang on the cage.....wtf???? This is horrible and shocking......this zoo should be shut down....imagine what that poor baby has gone through since it was born......gibbon mothers, monkey mothers, etc do not act like that towards their babies nor do they allow the baby to be tortured by an older sibling, most barely let the older siblings hold the babies at this young age......there is nothing ok with any part of this video.....shame on this zoo.......I will find a way to report this somehow.....don't care how long ago, I am sure this still goes on today........shame shame shame........you ignorant ignorant people!!!!!!

Indeed the zoo keeper need to pay more attention and cate of these animals in their care. I had seen video in a Korean Zoo a new born little baby macaque die due to the mother throwing, swing by grabbing his little hand or legs. The video was cruelty and horrific treatment by his mother. Furthermore, the mother regused to breastfeed him. The incidence went on for 2 weeks, I think. The videographer reported later that the baby die. Causes unknown. But we can guess the consequence.

A zoo in Japan, babies from the same mother died because the older brother was rough and careless with the infants. The zoo was notified as well as the keeper who was looking after 2 troops of macaque. They. ignored visitors warnings even when there was video evidence of the dangers. They did not move mum and baby to a separate enclosure.. Surprisingly South Korea and Japan, wealthy developed countries keep their zoo animals in appalling conditions. A Japanese aquarium kept a snapping turtle in the same aquarium all its life, it became so small the turtle couldnt move, there was a documentary about it. I saw, in Tokyo all kind of exotic animals being sold as pet kept in tiny cage.. Shocking . The adults monkeys were emaciated and unhealthy. They have mange, a very easily treated skin condition.

Makes you wonder if it damaged him psychologically in the long run having mom constantly leaving him hanging at high up in the bars at only 2 months old..well and even younger..and she did it often not to mention letting big brother manhandle him often...I thought for sure he would be dead after being cling to the floor by big brother from so high up!

Dan Fortin primates tend to have different parenting styles and personalities just as humans do..there has been a lot of research done regarding the topic. This is just a careless, innatentive mother who also either is not very bright (for a gibbon) it absolutely just cannot be bothered since she would seem to know that the brother is going to grab the infant and attempt to harm it each time but yet she continues to remove it from her own body, place it in the bars and leave it!! I am not sure why the zoo never removed either the infant or the brother but I do know he is over a year old now and looks good..of course who knows psychologically what damage has been inflicted as you can be sure there is fine to some extent!
