And so we begin! Here’s the first video of the tops pattern series looking at how to check a sewing pattern is balanced and how they are shaped. In this video, I discuss the key points in a jacket/coat base pattern.
1.) The side seams must be mirrored
2.) The back armhole is a maximum of 1/2” or 1.2cm lower than the front armhole.
3.) The back shoulder slope can be slightly curved to allow for more shoulder blade ease (commonly done in couture pieces)
4.) The front armhole is more scooped out than the back (more straight armhole).
Join me on this tops pattern series to learn more about why patterns are the way they are 😊💜 I’m so excited to start this super fun topic!

Hi, I would like to know about the height of the back pattern. How do ýou determine the height difference between the front and back pattern?
@GinaRenee
@GinaRenee Жыл бұрын
This is really going to vary per person based on the curvature of the back shoulder blades and rotation of the shoulder. Generally, on jackets and coats, it's around a 1/2" (1.3 cm) but it can even be a higher difference.

What is the scale? Is it 1/4 of original size?
@GinaRenee

These are just mini pattern pieces that are not to any particular scale. They are just to give a visual representation.
