You taught me something. I didn’t know that James Ing played on this. If my memory is correct, it was written and produced by Leon Hayward of “I Wanna Do Something Freaky To You Fame”. Twentieth Century Records created an R&B sub label in 1979/80 and signed Leon Hayward as writer/producer and possibly A&R man. He signed veterans like Carl Carlton & Eugene Record to deals. This song was the only big hit. The label and parent company folded a year or so later.

You guys totally need to get into more ‘80s R&B and funk. Start with Patrice Rushen’s “Forget Me Nots.” Such a great feel-good song. And Amber, there’s a HOT 🥵 sax solo! You guys could even include her on Female Fridays. Other hits from the genre are “Tonight” and “Keep on Loving Me” by the great Whispers; “Strawberry Letter 23” and “I’ll Be Good to You” by the Brothers Johnson; and “Make that Move” and “Night to Remember” by Shalamar.

You hit the nail on the head when you said how did we go from this to what is out there today. A majority of the old school songs were about appreciating women and now all I hear is songs about degrading women. I'm a white male almost 60 that grew up on #1 Motown & then Classic Rock and also had some Old Western and Big band/Jazz music influence from my father whose favorite artist was Nat King Cole. I've been watching several first reaction videos over the last couple of COVID years and I will say that your channel is my favorite and I believe your reactions are truly genuine. It doesn't hurt that your other fans are also suggesting some great songs and you are open to all of them. I hope you get to a million subscribers because I think you are keeping some great music alive. Heck, I even had to watch some of your videos for my own first time reaction or just because I completely forgot about how good that particular song was. Happiness and health to your family.

Yeah, it's from the year 1980, but it was probably written in the late seventies. It was so popular in the early eighties that I forget that people no longer know the song. And that "poetry in motion" line is a decades-older compliment, maybe dating back to the early 20th century. This song basically has the same message that the Commodores' 1977 "Brick House" did: that girl is built! For a similar message but from a woman's perspective about a man, check out Sister Sledge's 1979 "He's the Greatest Dancer."

Love it! I was 18 in ‘81’… I was at that age where I’d tear up the Roller Disco, then hit the clubs afterwards. Good times!

When you guys were talking about how did we go from songs like this to the lyrics we have today it made me think if a few groups and songs that were fire like this song. Zapp n Roger - "Computer Love", "I Wanna Be Your Man" Atlantic Starr - "Always", "I'll Remember You", "Secret Lovers" Lionel Richie - "Say You, Say Me", "Hello", "Three Times A Lady", Endless Love", "Stuck On You", "I Call It Love"

You definitely need to react to Everlasting Love by Carl Carlton! You just reacted to that song by the group Love Affair, but his is the version that you definitely have to hear!

Not just in the club! My oldest daughter told me that when she and a friend went to Florida to visit her uncle they were driving with him down a main street and came to a stop light. This song came on his radio and he literally turned it up with the bass, got out of the car and began dancing in the middle of the intersection. A few other car occupants got out and began dancing with them. She said it was a real showstopper. I would've loved to have been there!

I know this song. It's a classic. I don't know what else he's got. But the talent is clear.

Soooo much ear candy in this track. The backing vocals alone have, like, three different hooks that would be enough to base an entire song around.

it's already been said, but it's worth repeating...carl carlton's "everlasting love" is an absolute banger...i heard it for the first time a few years ago on track radio and as soon as it ended i played it again...amber i'm sure you have enough female friday suggestions to take you through 2055, but carl made me think of timi yuro's "im so hurt"
