On this episodes’s MOARtex we discuss Myke’s(?) excellent recommendation of Home Town and how it led to my really obvious epiphany about the built environment: www.relay.fm/cortex/join

I hope the fictional story about the coffee bean gets animated. It’s too cute

The fictional coffee bean story, save for the ending, is the premise of Trolls: World Tour. It is almost word for word how they describe how the trolls lived in harmony before pop took over.

On the matter of twitter, I think part of the matter is that twitter and facebook have existed for around a generation at this point (15-20'ish years), and I think the zeitgeist is about ready to try something else, something more closed and limited. This is honestly why I personally think Discord servers are on such a rise, since they're smaller communities you as a person can have an influence upon the discourse, whereas with twitter it's too large to have any real influence on the way the platform generally thinks, this "deafening silence" is why I personally think people tend to get polarised. On platforms like twitter you cannot have a voice that makes a difference, you cannot be heard, and you can only yell, compare this to a smaller Discord server wherein your argument and point can actually be heard. I realise I was repeating myself a bit, but oh well.

2:01:14 - 2:01:16 you can actually hear Grey's frustration for listening to Mike saying "toots" instead of "twits" although all the explanation he gave to him.

Cortex animated: Myke hesitantly approaches the Obsidian western saloon looking for a guide. Grey tips his cowboy hat and offers his services to hold hands to the new frontier. I am so curious for Myke and Grey to collaborate and explore Obsidian's whiteboard space.

The main maintainer of mastodon is German, and didn't get the second meaning of toot when it was proposed. After learning of it, he had second thoughts, and it has now been deprecated in favor of "posts". A portion of the community still finds toot funny tho, so some still use it (an example of how mastodon is open source, the fediverse is many different products, and its not just one person making decisions). I fully respect the decision to just not have social media. I do wish people would stop bashing mastodon for things that they are just _factually wrong_ about, or by using terrible comparisons. I also really don't get people not getting mastodon URLs when we literally already have email. Its just as complicated as an email address.

The thing that boggles my mind is how a lot of clearly intelligent people feel good about not knowing about Mastodon, and stop at the most surface elements to reinforce that position? How does something you know nothing about start with such poor reputation?

Oh, rss resurgence has been a thing by nerdiest of nerds for a while now. Like I want to say since 2017 is when it was on my radar as a thing that existed, and finally understood what the orange logo was on some news sites. I've been trying to use rss and other web syndication like mike's been doing so I'm not on twitter that often. It has... partially worked.

ugh, I hate when amazon asks me why I candled. odds are I don't want to spend money on yet another subscription at the moment but I'll be back at a later date. When it comes to many movies and stuff corporations are quite dull and copy-paste any way. While I don't really do Twitter I relate this to how I treat Reddit. Sure there's weird comunities on there but I can curate my experience on Reddit and Discord by avoiding the trashy sections of it. I suspect that's harder to do with how Twitter is designed though.
@AileTheAlien Жыл бұрын
I think the name 'toot' is actually deprecated by Mastodon already. I don't use it yet, but I think that was on the GitHub or main wiki, as part of the 'get started' / FAQ? Probably because it's such a silly name. XD

Have you ever tried Huel black? Its macros are also a little too protein heavy, but if you can add a milk fat powder, you could hit a pretty good keto ratio.

Hearing Myke talk about why he left Twitter reminds me of when the same situation happened to me a few years ago. I chose a different solution than he did, but his situation is very valid and Twitter can very easily turn into a place where we end up following people who just dump negativity onto the timeline. I'm curious - how do others deal with negativity in their feeds?

Every person born is new, and represent aspects of being that has never existed before. And the gifts they have are inexhaustible, as long as they stay connected to the originator of those gifts.
