Awe, you shouldn't be afraid of owls. They're so cute and friendly. I'm a zoologist who specializes in birds, so please trust me when I say they owon't hurt you, no owl has ever attacked a human before. But I guess that's the thing with phobias, they're not rational.

Most people love owls and don't like bats. This cartoon is brilliant because it shows in great detail how just by personalizing a character you can change the crowd's attitude toward an animal species. In Disney, Nemo the fish is a good character, but in Brother Bear the fish were mercilessly eaten by the good bears, but no one was outraged because the fish were dehumanized. We don't care for anything dehumanized. Even if it dies. Dehumanizing animals make us kill and eat them without any remorse. In this cartoon we see the demonization of the owl and the humanization of the bats. This can easily be flipped. How easy it is to direct people towards love or hate.
