In part one of a three-part video series, the Aquarium explores the ecological significance of the influx of invasive carp (Silver Carp, in particular) into the rivers and lakes of the American Midwest and South.
Millions of pounds of these fish are being removed from waterways through a combination of government incentives to encourage commercial fishing, stunning them through electrofishing and the installation of bioacoustic fish fences (BAFFs).
Some of the organizations involved in this uphill battle include the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, Tennessee Wildlife Federation, Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency, Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife and the Tennessee Valley Authority.
