Asian Carp Processing Plant Kentucky Two Rivers Fisheries in Wickliffe, KY is taking a run at the Asian Carp market. With an abundance of Bighead and Silver carp in nearby waterways, the fish market is set to process and sell these fish for consumption. Commercial fishermen have often said if you pay us for the invasive carp we will catch them and that is exactly what is happening in Western Kentucky.
Watch our segment on the problem of the Asian Carp in our waters:

Two rivers fishery is a great business. It sends fish to feed people as far as China to the east, and Poland in the west. Not to mention shipping then across the country to various markets that sell the fish. Also they have a line of carp food products of their own, from hotdogs(taste like normal hotdogs too) to dumplings.

Fuck yes. I see feral hogs as just pork, free for the taking. Ducks and geese, too. The license and stamp are pretty cheap compared to what you're getting. Roast duck is gourmet as far as I'm concerned, and deer backstraps and tenderloins are the best.

I am so grateful for asian carp. This fish "problem" has been a real blessing to my family. Saturday, my son caught a 20 pound big head asian carp. That night I grilled the collars and the belly. Today I deep fried "fish wings" and cooked the back 1/3 over a low wood fire for 3 hrs. So much delicious fish. At this time I don't need to eat the red meat, but there is piles of white meat on this fish. If we get too many carp, I can them. Smooth and mild. No sharpness like canned tuna has sometimes.

I had the opportunity to work in the former Soviet Union for several years and am now married to a Ukrainian woman. They LOVE carp! (called "Karp" in Russian also) There are bunches of them for sale in every grocery store in Russia, Ukraine, Belarus. They also sell what we call Northern Pike, another fish a lot of Americans don't like to eat. They are called "Shooka" in Russian. Also at any of the street markets they are for sale by local fishermen and the old women (babushkas) sell prepared carp in containers. We should get Ukrainian commercial fisherman to come and take them. And while we think Russia has unlimited supplies of beluga caviar (sturgeon, black caviar) much more common and much less expensive is "red caviar"...salmon eggs!

I live in this area and have seen hundreds of these fish dumped on the sides of roads in the Land Between the Lakes area. From what I've read and heard, these fish are very tasty but have lots of bones, like many carp do. They do taste good and when you fillet them out then take the carcass and bury it in your garden. I use a blender and puree the guts and carcass, people pay me for my jugs of fertilizer. My compost pile is pretty big and I pour it onto the top in the morning and its dry by dark. Problem was critter would come around, but since the fish was so finely pureed they couldn't get much, so the raccoons dug up my compost pile for me, but after awhile they figured out the pickings were slim they stopped coming around. The crows still pick through it though so I had to rake it in some. I have awesome growth in my garden and the trees I put some of the watered down puree on have grown fruit unbelievably well. Organic fertilizer and no poisonous pesticides, but rotenone works for most bugs as does the diatomaceous earth that chokes bug's breathing paths. My garden is a great and healthy hobby. Just a couple of fish a week is all I use.

The Asian Carp are tasty fish. They are much more cleaner, healthier, and more nutritional than Tilapia and many other fishes we get used to eating in America. They are also easy to catch. So the cost should be lower. Americans need to learn how to eat fish like the Japanese and Chinese do. All fishes have bones, and it is easy to remove the bones. Steamed the whole fish, or pan fried them. Super tasty and nutritional. Please do not waste foods. Feed the hungry animals and people. Make the fish lower price or free if needed, until the population is down then start charging more.

@@howardfortyfive9676 *You are off your nut.* How damaged do you have to be for your xenophobia to extend to _fish?_ Asian carp are too well-established to be eradicated. Two avenues of action remain available: *1. Close the Chicago Sanitary and Ship Canal* in order to preserve the Great Lakes fisheries. The canal physically connects the Mississippi River basin with the Great Lakes ecosystems, where sport fishing pours over $4 billion into local economies and commercial fishing draws about 65 million pounds of fish per year. A single silver carp has already been detected in Lake Michigan, making this an urgent matter. *2. Sustain downward pressure on the numbers of carp* already established in the Mississippi River and its drainages. The only practical way to accomplish this is to establish demand for these carp and drive it to consume supply. We'll never be rid of them but their numbers can be controlled in a manner that allows native species to largely coexist. *You Trumptards are too busy hating* to recognise (much less formulate) scientifically workable, economically viable solutions. _It's making you downright stupid._ Fortunately the carp are delicious, so demand for them can be more readily developed. They are also filter feeders-they escaped from impoundments where they were introduced to control algal blooms-so ideally a managed population would make the rivers a more healthful habitat, whether you like it or not.

I think American people have such a limited fishes in their menu compared to other countries in Asia and also lots of Native American continents fishes & the wildlife occupy there as well like nutria. The carpes in Asia originally were kept at in the rice paddies to consume all the parasites and other insects that harms the rice but the carpes themselves are eaten as well as because there's not enough water to keep the carpes unless there's a lake or a river near by.

Jan. 2018----Thanks for an interesting video....hopefully other states with this carp problem will do the same. Last year, watched 2 KZbin videos about carp in Australia. One was by a couple of kids in their early/mid teens and the one kid had a hell of a time in separating the meat from the bones. They ate it....it wasn't great they said, but it wasn't bad either. The other had a fish & game guy giving a public demo on how to fillet the carp and he had a razor sharp knife which made a hell of a difference. Then he cooked a bunch of it for everyone to try. There's some big carp in the Reno area....in the Truckee River and several of the city ponds.

its really kind of funny how a few years back people were in hysterics wondering what we were going to do about these fish and just having an all around freak out attack thinking that this would be the end of our fresh water river systems and even lakes. Its crazy that we were spending so much money coming up with these intricate traps and repellent systems in an attempt to stop them from breeding and moving north into the great lakes. All we needed to do was start fishing them commercially and selling them to foreign markets like this. Its funny that the answer was right under our noses but we were too busy having a panic attack to see that. The best part is that this fish will soon be classified as an endangered species or "protected" after about 20 years when the commercial fishermen over harvest them just like every other commercial fishery around the world hahahah. Seems that the best way to decimate the population of a species, is to simply allow people to harvest them. Happened with shark fishing back in the 70's and 80's and they're still recovering....and its happening with Tuna populations all around the pacific. If we really want to destroy the numbers of fish in a body of water, all we have to do is open it up to commercial fisheries with no regulation. Asian carp problem would be solved in 15 years if those bad boys attacked those rivers and fished them dry. Then we would have to worry about the algae blooms since there wouldnt be enough fish to control the algae population for a few years....but hey, i'd rather deal with algae for a few years while our domestic species rebound, and eliminate those carp if they're just going to completely take over again if given the chance. Only time will tell

When I was a kid, we used to throw them up on the bank. Nobody ever told us they were edible. Here in Ohio, one can cast net, hand catch, etc., since they are considered an invasive species and with no limits. Now that I know they are good to eat, I just might try that this spring when they roll into the Scioto River.

@jarutatsnidwongse 8 жыл бұрын
+sonicblast504 jeez man, you are very rude. I didn't even make a racist comment at first. 'Flying back to China' is a comment that talks about a country, not a comment about race. And the documentary shows the fact that these carps are flying around in the air + they get shipped to China for consumption. I live in Thailand and even this exact same fish is calle Pla Cheene, which litreally translates to 'Chinese Fish'. Now if you typed in Asian Carp in Wikipedia, the country name that pops up first and most frequent is 'China', too! It also first talked about its main importance in Chinese culinary tradition. Really this fish is most popular in Chinese dishes. I absolutely had no disrespect to the Chinese by making that comment. I just found it funny to say KFC as Kentucky Flying Carps, coz they really do fly out of the water. And yes, they fly back to China too for export. And guess what, China IS also in Asia, hence the ASIAN CARP name.

Hi everybody, we in Hungary love to eat this invasive fish in various forms of dishes. One more tip: make sousage from this fishmeat adding some bacon to it. Smoke it, dry it for some weeks. Delicious.
