I'm a diehard Steelers fan, and people need to STFU about their divisional record last year. WHO DID THEY PLAY AGAINST? They beat the Bengals back-up QB twice who's name I can't even remember, something Browning, and then Tyler Huntley who the Ravens just let walk. They won a game against Lamar at home the Ravens basically beat themselves, and then that crazy game against the Browns at home early in the season. What I do see THIS year is a veteran QB and young talented back-up in an offense that's gonna be designed to their strengths. I see a great defense that's gotten even better with the addition of Patrick Queen (secondary remains to be seen). I see the locker room cancer Diontae is gone, giving Pickens what he's been wanting. I also see most of the tough opponents this year are at home.

I think there's a good chance that Fields can start if he outshines Wilson during OTA's and summer camp. They'll probably still let Wilson start during preseason for a game or two and then let Fields start the other game(s) just to cement their decision for the beginning of the season. But for now you are correct, Wilson will be the starter because of the contract he's on for 2024. And since Fields is pretty much a younger, faster but less accurate version of Wilson, swapping them out for each other wouldn't change the game plan very much at all. We will see though my brother! 1. I agree with Stephen. Russell Wilson is 35 he's the old guard who will eventually pass the baton to Justin Fields. Russell Wilson is an experienced Pro and JF is still a Rookie. The Steelers will have a good Starter and backup quarterback. There's something they both will learn from each other. Everything happens for a reason. 2. Also, I agree with Stephen that Caleb should finish college (discussed on another episode). One thing I admired about Justin Fields is, although he'd signed for millions, he still completed his college studies and received his Degree in 2023. Most athletes don't do that once they sign that contract and get those millions. Ijs. 3. OAN-- I believe when JF dared to express how he felt in the Bears' press conference in 2023 someone in the Bears upper, upper management (the Owners) did not like it. That's why he's no longer a Chicago Bears QB. I just hope they haven't blackballed him in the NFL. Management doesn't like it when you speak the truth. It happens in corporate America every day. 4. I believe they traded him to signal to other new, young players to never voice their concerns in press conferences. When JF expressed his personal feelings at that press conference he already knew what it would/could cost him. When you've already weighed the cost, and know what the consequences may be, you move forward with peace. I pray that he achieves much success in his future endeavors. He has a good presence with the news media. I like his spirit.

Someone help me: Payton said "no, Russ is no good". Bears said "no, Justin is no good". All other teams said "no, no good", and, despite the massive discount tags, turned their backs on both of them as well. But now, Steelers have acquired a "divisional round" QB room?

The Bears turned down better offers to send Justin Fields to an accomplished franchise that offered him the best opportunity to grow his career. Russell Wilson had top 10 QB stats for the 2023 season. His only bad year was his first year in Denver. His stats were better than Mason Rudolph, who led the Steelers into the playoffs. Additionally, Russell was able to maintain that level of play for the entire season. Mason performed at a slightly lower level, but he did so for only three games.

Payton doesn’t know what he’s doing. Russ is still a top QB if not an elite one, and others around the league know it.

I really like the idea of having two similar brothers at QB like, it's far too common when you have a running starting QB and a pure passer as his backup which doesn't make sense. Teams that have pure passing QBs usually have very similar looking backups, so I am glad the Steelers have decided to TRULY commit to two relatively similar skill set QBs and they will really push each other to improve compared to those other programs where the next man up has nothing in common with the first man. All I know is both QBs are ready to scramble/roll out on snap, this approach keeps the OLine able to prepare for a consistent and custom fit for the personnel blocking scheme. That will reduce holding penalties and the Steelers are already well disciplined, but some of these other teams have had way to many good plays called back due to blocking scheme inconsistencies that likely come from practicing to protect multiple types of QB pocket styles. Steelers should be able to mold these two QBs to fit. Sometimes upgrading your depth at a position is more of a significantly beneficial upgrade for the team than upgrading your starter at another.
