This is setting me up for disappointment when I go appliance shopping this weekend. No salesman will hold a candle to this and I'm going to expect them all to be this knowledgeable 😄

We are renters, after living here for 12 years our range oven just stopped working. Our landlord offered to purchase a new range for us and gave us the option to pitch in to upgrade to an appliance that suits us. After watching this video I am going to be so much more confident when I go out to choose the oven that will work best for us. Ben was very easy to listen to and follow, he was very thorough with explaining all the features that are available as it can be super confusing to those of us that know nothing about this subject. Thank you Ben, you have helped us more than you can really know!

Very thorough analysis. I’ve lived in my house for 40 years, so I’ve run through the gamut of ranges: electric coil, electric glass top, natural gas, and as of last week, back to electric glass top. I have both electric and gas lines, so it was just a matter of preference. I found that the natural gas unit took forever to boil water, very frustrating. The temperature probe was so inaccurate, it wasn’t worth the bother; a small digital thermometer was far easier. The convection option? I hardly used it. I can’t use induction because I have an implanted pacemaker-defibrillator. The new electric smoothtop has been great. Boils immediately, no gas fumes, the grandkids can’t reach the controls. True, it’s not as quick to change temps as a gas flame, and you have to be careful not scratch it. But I can easily live with those restrictions. Oh, one more thing - in the winter, we have a humidifier running in the kitchen. It compromises the gas flame, and you get a yellow flame instead of blue. I first thought it was a gas supply problem, but then discovered it’s a common problem with moisturized air flowing nearby.

Thank you for sharing this!!! I’ve watched so a few videos about what range to buy as home cook and this has been the absolute best one so far. You kept me engaged and answered ally questions even some I didn’t know I had. Thanks again😄

The first range with coils is in my opinion the best for home cooks. They are incredibly resistant to hits from pans (even cast iron) and the coils are super cheap to replace. The glass ones, on the other side, feel like planned obsolescence to me, since the glass it's extremely expensive to replace

I've been cooking all my life with an electric range. I'm finally in position to remodel a kitchen and I'm going to a gas cooktop and electric convection wall oven. This choice is best for me because when the power grid goes out you will still need to cook or heat food. It's inconvenient if the power's out for a couple of hours, but life-and-death in an ice storm with a week-long grid failure. By the way, induction will usually require a visit from the electrician to upgrade the circuits to the 50-amp current specified, and repairs to an induction cooktop are outrageously expensive, no, thank you just the same.

Most folks who go to a store are there to replace a range, so installation is key as is incorporating it to your existing counter. That was not touched upon.. My current range has slight overhanging edges that eliminate the gap between the range and the counter. This prevents spills and bits of food from falling in making cleaning near impossible as appliances are anchored to prevent tipping over. I have yet to find such a range, though the height of some is adjustable. A seamless appearance is not only functional but esthetically pleasing. Please comment on this. Otherwise, this was a great primer .

Bit of a better review than I have seen on other sites, but the base line will always be how good the manufacturer tech support is. My local Bosche team seem a lettuce leaf short of a sandwich in that respect so may not be a prime contender when it comes to customer satisfaction.

Is there a gas range you could recommend that has either of the following features; 4 identical BTU burners (oldschool style) OR 2 by 2 burners (2 16k + 2 5k). I do not want a variety of burner sizes on my range.

So quick question so the bottom of oven is broil and the top is bake thank you
@mikemcmahon8982 Жыл бұрын
No, the broiler is the top element and bake is the bottom. In some cases the bake element is hidden, but a range has both elements , broil attached to the ceiling and bake on the floor. See 12:59 where he points out the broil element.

The #1 problem: all these manufacturers offer only THREE (!) colors in their ranges: stainless steel, white, and black. They are BORING! WHY is it impossible for manufacturers to offer red, green, yellow, bronze, brass, copper colors, without charging in excess of $20,000? Color is at least as important as the features.
