Well I appreciate the explanation. One can always fast forward through a video. The Southord tubular lock pick works extremely well. The lock I had to open had seized, so ended up drilling out the lock. It is just as effective but very messy, and looks very unprofessional. Thanks for the video.
@nathanatramp11 жыл бұрын
The vast majority of tubular locks out "in the wild" are the 7-pin variety. Standard tubular picks are made for those.

Good question, all you need to do is count the pins that are visible from the front of the lock. Count clockwise from the top dead center. You might be able to get a good view of this in some of the close up video we shot. Hope that helps! ~ Bryan

If you're unsure about how many pins the lock has, the neat thing about a tubular lock is that all the pins are exposed at the face of the lock, so you can just count them. If they're too hard to see (too small) just use a magnifying glass.

That's a great video, and I did give it a thumbs up. The only feedback I really feel compelled to give, which is seriously not meant to be rude, but there's no good way to say, you kind of ramble. The presentation was great, the demonstration was awesome, and you even got a Sub from me, but I'd suggest providing your commentary in a more direct fashion. There were several points I skipped ahead because you kept repeating the same information several times. Still, awesome video! Thanks for posting!

The tool used in this video is sold by Southord. they have three different pin configurations for just under one hundred dollars each. Bangood sells a seven pin version in three common sizes. It is just under thirty dollars USD. It is Chinese, made by DANIU, formerly HUK. It works well but does not have a couple of the features the Southord has. The price makes it a good starter, although it only works on 7 pin locks. If you find yourself really getting into picking tubular locks, the Southord ones are probably best, if more pricey.

Chad, mine uses 8 AA. The battery tray is inside the safe bolted to the top of the safe. There is only a small hole for the wires to the electronics. Most of the electronics are inside, with a small ribbon connector for the electronics outside. Turns out, one of my battery terminals was corroded. After I picked the lock, cleaned the corrosion, put it back together, it now works fine. That pick by the way is worth every penny.

List of possible security features -security pins -offset cylinder diameters -more pins -dimple instead of slot on cylinder There are 8*pincount possible coding configurations. So if you carried 56 7 pin tubular keys you could unlock any tubular as long as it didn't have an offset diameter or dimple instead of slot.

tubular picks are nice but I think I prefer single pin picking for the fact when you are going to a job you do not no the lock and what size it is and how maney picks also to own a pick for each would be expensive and require a suitecase to carry them all as for single pick picking you have a few picks and a few tenchion tools that all fit in your pocket.

if its a regular lock you half to feel it using a pick or something you can stick inside, or you might be able to tell by its length. If its tubular lock you can just look inside and see how many pins it has.
@AverilDoyle8 жыл бұрын
You are using too much force, but yes, that's a decent way to show how tubular pick sets work.. Also, the "tube inside the tube" is just a roll pin.. it can easily be replaced if it gets bent/worn, but that should never be an issue as the spring steel is tough and you don't need any real force to work the pick. Try loosening the tension another smidge and don't shove the pick in there so hard.. Usually a gentle 'in and out' motion while turning gently will work fastest and put the least stress on your tools.. All the same, not a bad video, keep tinkering and stay curious! :-)
