Another handy tool to have when breaking or joining a chain as a "Chain hand" basically a piece of wire with a hook on each end to stop the chain flying apart. you don't have to buy one! Its easily made with an old spoke and a pair of pliers. Another hazard of missing the washer on crank bolts is stripping the threads out of the crank! Then you're #******! Sometimes you'll get a crank thats been on for a millennium or so it seems and just won't budge! Give the extraction tool a sharp tap with a hammer while it's under full compression which should help shock the mating surfaces apart, never just keep giving it more welly or again you'll strip the threads out of the crank, they are the weakest link.

Great breakdown on essential tools. One disagreement: GOT to have Park Tool cable cutters. A mess otherwise on which I claim expertise! And thanks also for tutorials on grip and crankset hacks to save my aching wrists.

Why would you get rid of the V brake?

Originality & the lever "tehcnically" isn't suited to the linear pull V brake
