A Beginners Guide to Law's Stance Tech (DSS) - TEKKEN 8

this is a fairly simplified guide on Laws DSS stance, which should be easy to understand for beginners. there is a lot of specifics left out of this video, as i didn't want it to be 2 hours+ long. i hope you found it useful. feel free to ask questions in the comment section, and i'll do my best to answer them to your satisfaction. :)

@@benderthefourth3445This isn't unusual, fighting games have a pretty high "actions per minute" compared to most games. One thing you can try to do, which will help you with gaming in general, is to try to input things as "gently" as possible- especially if things still don't feel natural, it's likely you over-stress your muscles trying to intentionally input things. Stretching can also go a long way, there's a lot of "gamer recommended stretches" for your hands/wrist/arms, online.

i never play on pad. it hurts my thumb and my whole hand. i found arcade stick more ergonomic. makes both of my arms relax

Battle Beaver D-Buttons make the DualSense's D-Pad much better. It separates each direction into a separate button, instead of the large disc that's in the standard D-Pad. They're cheap and easy to install. It will take a little time to adjust but once you do it's so much more precise. The standard Dualsense D-Pad is absolute crap and gets mushy in months. I'll never go back, and on the plus side, w/ the knowledge I gained installing the D-Buttons I can replace the sensor pads too. Instead of having to buy a new controller when the D-Pad starts to go.

I call it Dragon Switch Stance because you used to switch between two stances Dragon Charge and Fake Step with the use of the B,F,F input

Sometimes I really miss the legacy input but I’ll probably get used to it. It makes a lot more sense for new players I’m sure.

I had a lot of mixed feelings about it. But nowadays, I mostly find it liberating that law is not so high maintenance anymore. I can take a small brake from Tekken or play other characters for a bit, without being super rusty on my timing once I eventually play law again 😄

We haven't sufficiently studied and optimized Law yet as a community. The idea of treating crouch dash a stance is something we've kinda sorta known but haven't really articulated. Therefore, dss to crouch dash is quite a tactical buff. Makes sense now why they nerfed his back turned game.

I'm basically new to Tekken (but not new to fighting games - I played most of the Soul Caliburs). I'm a bit of a lab rat and I was wondering why I kept getting DSS f2 instead of DSS 2. (mi's-press of course). Which led me to look for the move and found out that f222 and f221+2 are real moves, but aren't in the move list?! It already took some understanding to conclude that many normals can be done out of DSS, but whole missing normals? That's craziness. Thanks for the Law videos, I like to get really technical with fighting games and I always pick the Bruce Lee character so looks like I'm in the right place.

The thing im struggling with now isnt even DSS. I try to do dragon hammer into ws4 but get a mis input like down 4 or standing 4. When i do get it i feel like it doesn't do it instantly as an opponent usually interrupts me even with dragon hammer frame trap. Any tips?

If you are getting a miss-input, try doing dragon hammer, and while the animation plays out, you press and hold down. The exact moment the attack connects with the opponent, let go of the down button. You will still recover in crouch, since the down input was registered on impact, and you will have a small window where law is crouched, even though you aren’t holding the down button anymore. This right here is your window to buffer the 4 input, so that as soon as the dragon hammer animation end and law is about to stand up, you will get the ws4 input. Hope this helps.

Is it faster to dss from while rising3 or while rising 4?

Ws4 comes out at i11 and ws3 is i16 so ws4 is faster, but ws3 floats the opponent higher and closer to you in combos as it is a high, making follow-ups more easy, if you notice in the combo showcase. Ws4 is better in the neutral though and for poking/ pressure, So whether you use one or the other depends on the situation. And again the properties on normal hit and counter hit are also different.

Bro can we punish with guaranteed 3+4 4 after parry in tekken 8 as it was removed in tekken 7... And why are you using 1+3 button bcz there's no move comes out of this button

As far as I’m aware, it is not possible to get a guaranteed 3+4,4 after a manual parry. I tested it and couldn’t make it work. In regards to your second question, if you mean 1+4 I have it mapped because yoshimitsu is my second main, and I use it for his flash, and I don’t want to change button setup every time I switch characters :)

3+4 4 is a 14 frames punishment and also comes out from DSS.. After manual parry we can punish upto 14 frames like we can punish with f+1... Early in tekken 7 it was guaranteed but after that it was removed because it was a launcher..! And now in tekken 8 it is not a launcher anymore so it should be back as 14 frames punishment after parry..! Justframejames was using it against MYK in a tournament match then commentator said "So cheap" that's why it was removed..!

sadly this godly frame are inacurate. i tested them. while raising 4 is more like -5 than a 5, same for almost all the others, the frames are not accurate. the only ones who put you in advantage is 3,4 and b2,3,4 the rest of the options you in a severe minus on frames. i dont know if its a bug or intended

Nice video, man, thank you! Idk why, but most of the time my f+3,1 DSS 2 got beaten by jabs in online matches but always ch launches jabs in training. Seems like people don't even know that this move has a DSS transition with + 4 on block and mashing a lot after this:(

If they jab check you after that move trying doing it without going into dss and then duck instantly after. Then you get a launch
