Thanks for taking the time to make this video, like many installers on here that said they never would, i am now looking to make the move to press fit. I know a lot of the bigger sites will not allow soldering anymore so i guess blow lamps are going to become as demonised as my old diesel van has so we won't have any choice soon. Like yourself i have no previous experience on press fit so good to see how you got on. Enjoy the channel, Thanks, John

Hi Marky Mark ,saves so much time. Last year I was on a LST rad install on a school with carbon steel up to 80 Mil.down to 15 mil. No problems with hot works permits and fire extinguishers .I first used it in Germany 20 + years ago. I think you will find it indispensable once you get to grips.The main things are working in lofts no fire risks, water in pipes ( press that mother).Time saving too.Hope to see you at PHEX .If I’m not back in Venezuela. Welcome to the press revolution!!! The plastic bit that you said "i dont know what that is" is a depth marking gauge for marking the fitting insertion depth Top tips Always plan ahead of your self so you can avoid fittings that the gun cant get into Buy a reaming tool and take the sharp edge off the pipe so it doesn't catch/cut the o ring When marking the depth cross mark it into the bit the fitting sits on so if you have a leaking fitting and the manufacturers want to cut it open to inspect it they can see you marked it before it was pressed Tell your liability insurance company that your % of hot works is now less it could save you money Keep up the good work with the uploads fab viewing as always

I love my press gun. It's just a different way of thinking. A little tip I have is to plan your pipe run first. There will be some areas you can't get the gun in if you have already pressed pipes next to it if that makes sense. 👍👍👍

Always consider using less T-joints, they restrict the flow. You could easy bend a 90 with an off-set. Or used a 22-15-22 T-joint with a male/female 90 on the end. The T-turn equals 5 meter of pipe, the bend only 1 meter.
@pedrosmits

Considering buying a tapered drill for removing the edge that’s on the inside of your pipe after cutting. A stepped drill-bit is also a possibility. If you buy a bit look for the maxed size 20, those fit perfectly inside a 22 pipe. You’ll get less noise, less wear and better flow. 👍

Great video. Id just say they do all types of fittings. If you can think of the fitting they usually do it but not everyone supplies the full range. A 22x15x22 would have been tighter for that DOC. You also will find when coming through a wall but the fitting is tight too the wall it will be hard to crimp so sometimes you have to crimp out of place. I always found how much cleaner crimp is than soldering. Wait until you are doing 108mm copper then that gets complicated as its 2 crimp heads. The next thing you will get is the milwaukee oipe cutter its game changer for install works.

Back when I was commercial new build only, the only thing pipe fitters were allowed was press fit, for the “no hot works” on sites reasons. every job, no matter the company, always had to write their initials on the fittings so any leaks was on them to fix. And they’d always press a bunch of fittings then draw the depth line on afterwards to make their bosses happy that they’d done it right 😂
@MJTiffPlumbing

I looked after a few sprinkler jobs in cpvc pipe (orange pipe). The connections were done using solvent cement but same process of marking the ends of the fittings and initialing the fitting, which was in manufacturer's instructions. Lasted about a day 😂. The lads worked with it that much they just know.

I started to use press on pex before 15 years. I'm originally from Croatia and whole system came from Italy. Valsir and press gun was Rigid and manual one Valsir. I was surprised when I came here before 4 years and saw that plumbers don't use press as much as soldering. Unlike Europe here you have pex and copper 15 while in eu pex is 16 and fittings are not Interchangeable. Also I've noticed that js fittings fail all around. Rather use wiega or V system which have that small bit of pipe on other side. It's more stabile and solid than js fittings. I wish you a good luck and thumb up for chanel.

Just to go off on one Mark. The UFH loops/manifold should’ve been connected & pressure tested prior to the Floor Screed. With a gauge at the manifold to monitor the pressure. The reason for this is; some hairy arsed Labourer damages a pipe with a Barrow, you’ll know & they’ll know when Water squirts all over their screed!! Use Conex Press Fittings, much cheaper & neater looking👍👍 Thanks Mark, good content as always.

Hi Mark... Great upload.. Like you im looking to make the 'Press fit switch'. Recently i extended and altered some domestic and heating pipework in my nieces bathroom. The previous engineer ( they live too far for me to just pop in) used press fit. The cost her husband said for the heating pipes to the upstairs and downstairs was in his opinion quite high for the job involved, but i figured press fittings are not altogether cheap but timewise better???. The only thing i didnt like was pipework on show in a decorated room looks quite ugly. The worst part was a decorative column living room radiator looked ugly due to the drain off being as youve stated ( long and an eyesore). I ran the downstairs bathroom pipework and soldered using end feed, and they both commented on how much better the pipework looked😅 Anyway nate good luck and keep kerping it real..

Plumber recently quoted to fit a new cylinder in our house . He tried to charge me significantly more to fit these fitting (over)quoting their reliability and the cost of the tools and fittings. He wasn't impressed when I reminded him ,right before I invited him to leave, that it cuts down significantly in fitting time.. and time is money .

Hi Mark, little tips when you open the jaws you can just press one side down and they will open, always tighten the drain offs as they’re not usually done up 100% and now you’ve got Milwaukee 12v battery’s and charger have a look at the Milwaukee auto cutter and hacksaw makes life so much easier. Keep up the good work.

It's definitely an incredible bit of kit no doubt about it. Personally though, I find those fittings to be pig ugly and much prefer the look of properly done end feed fittings for pipes which are visible, under a worktop where no one gonna see them? Press fit all day baby but radiator drop going down a wall? Much prefer the end feed there. That price though is just stupid I'm sorry, I know I know they came up with something smart and useful and they gonna get every penny out of those patents as they can and so should they, and yeah for a plumber doing this day in day out hundreds of fittings a week it pays for itself after the first week jobbing, but £1200+ for what's essentially just a bit of metal and a hydraulic cylinder I'd have to put my card details in with my eyes closed and my heart would hit the floor after clicking that buy button. This kinda thing would be an absolute god send to DIYers but it's gonna be a long long long time before it's within their price range which is a bit of a shame really.

Hi mark I have been pressing for a while, I love it, time saving and clean to use great when you have some water in the pipes or a valve that is letting by, I also use MLCP with press fittings which is flexible to a point but so much better than push fit!! I don’t like geberit M press tbh as the fittings do tend to slip about, I have started using Pegasus with the green ring as these are tight on the pipe so don’t fall off👍

can you use press fittings to plastic barrier pipe?
@JM-rl6bq
@JM-rl6bq Жыл бұрын
Hey Mark, It's cool seeing you do these videos, press definitely saves lots of time with labor. There will be times where soldering will be more practical in certain situations and I'm assuming press fittings are more expensive, but in the long term of things especially if you want to cut down on labor then press is the way to go and I do recall a few people I know that usually go with pressing when it comes to service work so that is always an option there if you have to do repairs in the future too. Maybe, on situations where the fittings have the potential to come down like that, you can always put in a support with a pipe clamp?

I like using a press tool but you have to think ahead when working in a tight spot with fittings close together. You'll be pressing away then find a fitting where you can't get the tool in. Often you can't just switch to a soldered fitting because then you would be soldering too close to a fitting you've already pressed.

Excellent comment because if you go to a pressfitted job, with a soldering bag, occasionally you have to think around modifications because everything in vicinity is pressfitted, for example tmvs under a sink, pressfit excellent for occasional solderers like me, I would love a pressfit tool !!!! Always gonna be a job where they will be worth their weight in gold.

Get yourself some TH jaws and start using Mlcp, you can sack the push fit off. Been using press since I moved from uk to Oz. We run 3 mini Rems and a large Rothenberger gun. Largest I’ve done is a 100mm fire main.

PB’s recent video with Press UK was very interesting. Warranty duration can be dependent on whether you sent back the warranty card or not. Don’t you need to get them calibrated every year for insurance/warranty? For sure more $$$ but time is ££ and also some homeowners appreciate not having the smell of solderin in the house
