Wow, great little video, and you sold me on them! What would be some cons for this buckle? Do they slip off more easily, do the holes stretch/wear out more quickly? (Just wondering why more crafters are not using them)

Big con is that you need to use pretty darn thick strapping for these to function properly. A lot of the tension is held by the "pressure" that the stacked leather is exerting by being stuffed inside the loop and ontop of the post. If the leather doesn't fully stack to the top of the "post" then there is a big chance of it "unbuckling" and all the pressure is on the holes laterally, leading to stretching. This is the main reason it's used in tack, where 12-14oz leather is the norm. They're also pretty specialized and you can make a very similar "tail-less loop" with a regular buckle.

Do you have a good source for solid brass buckles and hardware? I built a range box for my muzzleloader. I'd like to add some leather straps. The brass is a critical safety feature. It eliminates the chance of a spark around black powder.

I love ❤️ that kind of buckle.. mostly I see them on halters and saddle accessories, they are very neato. Small ones would be handy with key fobs, and that kind of thing, .
