In every other game quickplay has always been the best way to get good at the game imo. Ranked is fun yeah, but generally, people will do whatever it takes to win instead of focusing on improving, which leads folks to gimmicking or outright cheating their way to the top. Player matches are competitive enough to improve, but relaxed enough, that if you don’t have some crazy fragile ego, that there’s nothing really at stake but a loss, and you learn way more from losing than winning all the time anyway.

I agree, I enjoy playing the standard matchmaking mode in most games, fighting games or otherwise. And Tekken ranked has always been a bit of a mess. Thanks for watching.

Yeah, Orbital whiff punish is its best usage, but the timing is tight.

@@JusticeSoulTuna I remember watching your Lars guide and u not being a fan of LE1 because it forces the side switching. I watched a vid recently on a replay of a player being in heat and it not switching sides. I wasn’t being able to figure out how but do u maybe know? I jabbed and after a tornado move it prevents the animation but he doesn’t do it here so idk what it prevented it cuz if we can prevent it ourselves that be a huge thing for Lars. Side angle. If LEN2 doesn't clean hit from the front, the side-switch won't happen. It's not something you can force though, it'll happen at random.

About 4:10 mins in Wats the notation for the combo u do for f1+2 combo? Cuz Im trying to steadily learn more optimal but consistent lars combos and that looks like one of them. Was confused cuz the 2nd df3 d puts u in dynamic right? Did u hold forward to go to deadly 1+2 for the tornado state?

Hey JST I have a question for you. Why does the timing and/or buffering on strings change when used in a combo vs in neutral? For example, I am working on a Lars combo that uses f123 DEN. In the neutral, I can hit f123 as fast as I can and the correct string will come out. However, mid combo, if the opponent is being juggled, I have to slightly delay the 3. Mid combo if I hit f123 as fast as possible, I'll get f12 SEN instead. The game doesn't register the 3. Do you happen to know why this changes?

To be honest, you should be able to press F123 as fast as possible, it's not affected by combo juggle. If you get F12, it means you didn't press the F123 fast enough, or you accidentally held forward during the F12.

​@@JusticeSoulTuna Hm, I ran a bunch more tests with the frame data on. Using uf4, f3 2 as a combo starter, if I wait just a bit to make sure the f3 2 animation is completely finished, I can then bang out f123 as fast as I can it works. However, if I am just a bit early on the f input, just a few frames before the f3 2 animation has recovered, then f123 as fast as I can gets f12 SEN instead. I don't understand that. I don't know why asking the game to buffer my f12 input would affect the timing of the subsequent 3, but that seems to be the case. I also played with this in the neutral. If I do f3 2, but are a little too quick on f123 DEN right after that, I'll get f12 SEN.

@@JusticeSoulTuna One other thing, if you look at the example combos page, and have it demo a combo with f123 in it, you'll see the game also suggests a slight delay between 2 and 3.

That's likely the reason, yes. You have to make sure the F3,2 connects fully, otherwise F123 won't work as intended.

Sadly, I wasn't joking. I genuinely don't think I'm good enough / have the mental / care enough to put up with ranked to get Tekken God Supreme or God of Destruction. A lot of players have/ will, and I respect that. But the state of ranked is too off-putting to me, and I don't even think I'm good enough to get the highest rank.
