FOV is not about how close or far things seem or how fast movement feels. FOV is the angle of visibility. What you see in game is a 2D rectangular cutout of a 3D space. Between the left an right sides of your monitor, there are finite columns of pixels and those finite columns alltogether represent the set degrees of vision, e.g. a 120° angle if you set your FOV value to 120. This 120 would mean that if you pan all the way around using your mouse left or right and return to the starting position, you will get 3 screens worth of pixel rows, or in other words, what you see at any given moment is one third of the 360° horizontal plane surrounding you. If you imagine looking at your character from above, a given circle around it would be cut by two lines originating from the center of the caracter and whatever is between those two lines is visible on your monitor. If you measure the angle they close in degrees, you get the FOV value that is set. The other remaining cutout of the circle would be the remaining degrees (e.g. 360° - 120° = 240°). So the lower the FOV is, the less things will actually be visible from your far left and right. Higher settings allow you to see farther left and farther right, but they introduce more and more distortion resembling what a fisheye camera lense would produce because bigger and bigger cutouts of the visual field are crammed into the same number of pixel columns or in other words into the same space available between the left and right sides of the monitor. IRL a typical human FOV value is around 130° which would be a distorted in game value unless you are using a superwide curved monitor that actually blocks all 130° of your vision. This fisheye lens-like distortion is linear however, meaning that it doesn't change while looking around in game so your brain can adapt to it pretty fast. I think setting the value to around 120 is the sweetspot where you are able to see around one third of your surroundings and it also doesn't distort too much so not a lot of visual detail is lost in translation, and it is still pretty easy to adapt to.

Higher fps will always improve your input latency, AND your visual frame time (smoothness). Both are improved regardless of what hertz monitor you are using. Thanks for the vid :)

If "Higher fps will always improve your input latency" why did Nvidia develop Low Latency Mode and what does it do?
@vengeur4 жыл бұрын
ReeceAUS well, the low latency mode can be really good, but only if you have a powerful enough pc cause otherwise it could cause lags and spikes. I personally use it at ultra but in the video I just paid attention to in game settings. Honestly it feels kinda the same with it activated or not so I guess it really comes down to everyone’s setup

Good job again pineapple pizza boy! One small note: you didn't really explain the relation between DPI (you are on 300? was hard to hear) and sensitivity and just advised between 2.8 and 4.2. For people that are on 800 dpi (default these days), your sensitivity advise will be too high. PS Autoswitch on empty helps noobs like me get those sick LG into rail combo's like I meant to actually do that ;-) And I don't wanna end up clicking all the time like toxjq haha
@vengeur4 жыл бұрын
Hippo Tion heya! Yea I said 400 probably microphone didn’t catch it properly 😂 anyway yeah of course it would be way too high. I was referring if you were using 400 since it’s like really the default for most of the people. So of course if u play on 800 it would be from 1.4 to 2.1 ! Thanks for pointing it how :)

Nice video senpai, do you have any recommendations for your OS/BIOS etc setup? There are some things like disabling HPET, core parking and certain nvidia control panel settings that have helped me reduce stuttering and input lag, are there any tweaks you recommend or do you keep your PC configured pretty much as default?

I think that Latency in the nvidia settings is really important, and then just try to unlock the real speed of your ram and unpark your cores !

Hi Vengeur and thx for letting us know about your settings. In the old days were always trying to get the config.cfg of pros, but we were never sure, if those were legit. This way we do know. 👌 If you don't mind me asking, I have a question about the mouse sens. How high is your sens actually? Since there are many ways to configure the sens via dpi and so on, I think the best way to compare, is to measure the cm for 360 degrees turn (at least if you are not using accel). Would you be so kind and tell us? Thx man Yours docci
