Note: in this video I said "Zebrune salad onions", when I meant to say "Zebrune shallots".
I have loads of great resources for you to explore, including hundreds of extra videos, my comprehensive gardening ebook, my gardening app, data on everything I grow and when I grow it and so much more. Everything I do is free to use, but not to create!
For my whole ebook/course go here: steverichards....
For my Amazon store go here: www.amazon.co....
For reference information on what to do each month and what I actually do, go here: steverichards....
For my gardening apps go here: steves.seaside...
For polytunnel and greenhouse growing: steverichards....
For my year round growing guides: steverichards....
For my guides to individual veggies: steverichards....
For my 8 step guide to self sufficiency: steverichards....
For my gardening basics course: steverichards....
For info on harvesting: steverichards....
For my FAQ document and video: steves.seaside...
My books and videos are all grounded in what I actually do, I make sure you can see the evidence. For example if I suggest sowing carrots in November, take a look at my monthly tours to see them growing and my harvest videos for May to see the actual results. I'm not just about regurgitaing information from the backs of seed packets!
Just because all my resources are 'free of charge', to everyone, doesn't mean they aren't good quality. My objective is to make sure that there's no need to be rich to get access to great gardening information. I do however have a lot of costs to cover and my time is valuable to me, so please consider supporting me at www.buymeacoff...

Thanks Ronald, it's allowed us to grow a lot of parsnips last year and this year, without any extra ground : All the best - Steve

I clearly love watching your videos. Love your wise gardening tips and seeing what’s going on in your gardens. I’ve just enjoyed watching this vlog and parsnips are the one and only veg I dislike 😂

I'm not keen on them when they sweeten up, in fact I don't like many sweet veggies, although I love sweet fruits : All the best - Steve

I did the parsnip and zebrune shallot interplant (following your lead) and it worked a treat. Big parsnips and a fantastic crop of shallots. I’ve got some spinach and salad onions ready to go in, so I know where they’re going now. It’s my first year and I’ve grown so many different things with great success. People are amazed. I tell them ‘It’s down to Steve’ Thank you. Oh, also I noticed on the vid, you called them ‘zebrune salad onions’ I’m sure you meant shallots. It had me confused for a min. Don’t know if you can add a note after you’ve posted? Probably not.

I did, although I think Zebrune is an onion really, rather than a shallot, it just looks and tastes like a shallot, that's probably what I was thinking : All the best - Steve

@@SteveRichards oh yes, I know you’ve explained this before. Zebrunes are technically onions , not a true shallot (which split into ‘cloves’) But I was meaning that you said zebrune *salad* onions. It was the salad part that confused me. Anyway no bother, wasn’t sure if you’d want to add a note or anything that’s all. I wasn’t meaning to sound pedantic. All the best.

If it's easy to fix I don't know how Alison, normally I try to listen to my videos prior to posting, I'm always making errors like that. To fix, I have to re-post the video, which it's probably not worth doing, thanks for pointing it out though. I will add a note in the description : All the best - Steve

@@SteveRichards yeah that’s what I thought. Definitely not worth it. People will probably realise what you mean, especially since you showed a pic of a pile of harvested shallots. While I have your attention, can I just ask how many people you feed with lettuce, Chinese veggies and lambs lettuce in winter. I’m trying to get an idea of scale because I’m limited on useable space in winter (because of shade) I’m only growing to feed 2 people. I find myself over-sowing a lot because I’m following your lead. I’d love to be able to grow loads for family but I just haven’t got the space. It’s always good to have spares though I suppose, but perhaps not double the amount.

I would love to grow parsnip but don't have space. My seedling have come along nicely need to sow some more. And transplant some. Going to grow some in the greenhouse this year and some out side so I can see the difference in growth

You’d have the space if you grew them in the way I describe in the video though : all the best - Steve

I leave my parsnip in the ground until after a good hard frost as they do taste a bit better for it.....but I can see that makes it even worse from the perspective of getting them out of the beds
@SteveRichards
@SteveRichards 2 жыл бұрын
Hi Dave, I have loads still in the ground waiting for the proverbial first frost, but why deprive ourselves of the earlier harvest, they taste fine and are a bit healthier than when they sweeten up and become a bit tastier : All the best - Steve

By 'salad onions' do you mean what we call bunching onions in the US?

As with all roots I have struggled to grow decent crops of all but beets nd onions. This method you explai n doesn't mention the different food sources needed for roots, onions and spinach. Is there a feeding trick you use Steve?

Actually I find blood fish and bone is the perfect feed along with a bone made compost mulch. Blood fish and bone also works great for the parsnip and onion combination, just enough nitrogen, not too much : all the best - Steve

I do explain it in the relevant chapter of the book. I try to keep the videos focused on the concepts and the book provides the details : all the best - Steve
