Hey Peter, just finished this fix and it has worked beautifully. The zebra strip came from Switzerland and cost £14 but the rest I had to hand. A bit of patience and some careful measuring saved me money I don’t have right now! Just about to hit winter and the thermostat is back on line. Thanks for posting!!!

Hello Petr, typically I don't write public comment, but in this case I had to. Thanks for the detailed video. With this, finally I could successfully repair my screen (I hope it will last for a long time). The short-term heating methods worked for only 2-3 years (I had to do that each year), but this year it failed finally. Your method took me approx. 9 hours total with many trials. First, I ordered the zebra stripes from the mentioned ebay seller, and followed the steps you showed. The aligning part took a lot of time, and I tested the alignment before gluing with tape fixing only. Then it took a while until I could find a similar tube. The first problem was that the Pattex glue I bought didn’t work with the tube. Then I bought a plastic glue (for PE+PP), and it worked. The next problem I had with the soldering part, it just melted the tube (I only have a 100w piece). I tried again from the beginning with a new zebra stripe, and this time I used a simple lighter, which worked, but nothing appeared on the screen. I was about to put the screen in the trash bin, but before that I unfolded the screen and replaced the zebra stripe with the original one, and it worked:) The preparation cost me approx. 25 EUR, so it might not worth it with the extended repairing time, but I didn't want to replace this thermostat, so thank you, you helped me saved it. Best regards, Miklos

Thanks Petr, great video! I could repair my two Honeywell CM927 by carefully following the method you described. I could buy the zebra strip on AliExpress. But I had to use my binocular microscope to correctly align the LCD display and the PCB and for verifying the cleaning of the contacts. Thank you. The alignment

hello, here Petr, the author of the video. I have no access to my account anymore and use the account of a friend to answer some of your questions. The video has no sound because I like the sound of silence. The lenght is 47mm ( L47 or l47, hence the confusion). The repaired thermostats do , to my knowledge, all still work perfectly. Greathings, Petr.

Thanks Petr! Great video; I had to use the heat method every year again; now I finally hope to have a more definite fix. It is more complicated but it will hopefully save my 2 Honeywells and keep them going for some more years.

Great video. I tried but without success. I wonder what you use at minute 7:42 to clean the contacts: cloth or very fine sandpaper? At minute 10:32 everything seems to have been erased on the glass. Thank you very much. Translated with Google translator.

Very nice repair but the lucky helped a lot since contacts are in the bottom side of glass and are aligned perfectly to the pcb contacts so the vertical conductor pad did excellent job that will last forever.

Would it work if you just glued the heat shrink over the existing connector and used heat to pull it together?

two questions. Doesn't this apply quite a bit of asymetric force on the LCD screen? (torsion) and then, I'm not sure how this would work better than simply using a properly sized zebra strip? ie the force of contact is either externally applied (your method) or internally applied (with a slightly thicker zebra strip, the polymer applies the force) Thanks for sharing your method. Doug

Hello Nitrous Man, only at the moment you press both sides together with the vise to heat and thus shrink the shrinking tube there is a possibility you brake the glass. ( due to the force of the vise, not the force from the shrinking tube) . I did maybe 20 and never broke one. Once out of the vise the pressure on the strip is small but big enough to make proper contact and avoid dirt going in. Sorry for the late answer but I do not look very often on my youtube account. Good luck, Petr.

Tried this method, with great care, but it didn't work -- I suspect alignment as you suggest at the end. I couldn't work out quite what you were doing at 11.24 where you're using a pad of post-it notes (to create a slight offset?). There seems to be a measurement in mm on the pad -- and the calliper must be significant here -- but I can't decipher what the measurement is. Could you clarify / confirm this is what's happening at this point? Thanks for and otherwise excellent and ingenious video
@petrhaydn2287
@petrhaydn2287 3 жыл бұрын
Hello Ken , I use the post-it notes to create an object of ~1.5 mm thick ( about 17 post-it sheets) which is the offset needed between the glass and the pcb so that in 9 of 10 cases the allignment is correct straight away. But you should check the allignment with the eye and eventually correct it before continuing the repair. It is very important to look at a perfect 90degrees angle to allign. I have repaired many thermostats this way and they still work perfectly. Good luck, Petr.

Ken, to save yourself a lot of frustration watch the video again, at 4.05 the White paper sticker is completely intact and you can clearly see the number 251530 on the board, now check the video from 15.55 onwards, the number is now obscured by the yellow plastic and the White paper sticker has a small hole in it and the top edge is damaged, now go to 22.00 onwards, the number is visible again and the White paper sticker is perfect again, so it looks like buying a new LCD display and pretending to repair and obviously old damaged one, then actually fit the new one so it looks convincing is the way forward. Hope this saves you a lot of wasted time and effort sir.

@@JackalCDS , you are apparently a distrustful person , and usually this is justified. Except this time. Those inconsistencies you see are because I had never made a video before and needed to copy / paste from 3 attempts until I had something usable. ( dead battery , blurred image , too long video, wrong format , too big size, ...). I don't gain anything by telling people lies. I just want to share my experiences for free in this video. But I don't belong in your world either , so just buy a new thermostat from china and thus pollute this world some more so that there is nothing left for our children and grandchildren. Greetings, Petr.

hello london, by now you have solved it for sure but for other readers : take out the batteries and you see the sign of a screw-driver left and right wit a triangle pointing to where to put the head of a medium sized flat screw-driver and twist ( keep the other side of the screw driver (where you grab it) down while you twist) , do the same on the other side. Once both sides are unclipped just pull the cover. Greetings, Petr.

Hi Petr this looks like a really good video. I have two CM927s which have stopped working and have done the heating method before and the displays came back just enough to be able to control heating but now they have both gone again. Unfortunately I don't have all the tools required (soldering iron) or skills to do this and wonder if there is any chance I could pay you to repair mine please? Not sure where you are in the world but I live in London, UK. Regards Ann
