This video shows how I repaired a failing LCD display on a Honeywell central heating control unit.
As this was my first attempt, I have shown how I did it step by step.
It's not too difficult and and with some care anyone can do it.
Remember this was my first time also.
Important lesson..I would definitely recommend using a domestic hairdryer and not a heat gun.
I hope you find this video useful and if so please consider leaving me a like, I will appreciate it.
Thank You for Watching.

I left mine on the wall took out the batteries and just blew the hot hairdryer over it till the screen went dark, then blew cold air over it till it cooled down, then I put batteries back in and checked it, did this a couple of times and then finally the screen worked as good as the first day!! Thanks for this tip saved me a bit of money

Hello... Please do you mean you did not take it apart? You only removed the batteries and blow dried the scree whilst it was still mounted on the wall with the covers on?

I’ve been struggling to read my display for a while now and it went completely blank the other day. I was just about to pay £100 for a replacement when I came across this video. I’m glad I did because it worked. Had to do it with a hairdryer twice but the screen is now back to normal. Top man 👍🏻

Thanks for sharing this. I just fixed my screen following your instructions - I used a hairdryer on the screen for 2 minutes untill the screen was an even dark colour. Then left it to cool until it was back to green. Thanks so much - you saved me a lot of money.

Hello Sir, Being a person who works in electronics, this maintenance input is a real thing I liked learning from you, moreover, you handled the device like a baby from dismantling to reassembly..that's the good part any professional to learn. In India generally, people don't give attention to Screws, Snapfits, Retainer locks when they do service at all. that makes me impatient.

Excellent video ! I followed it step by step, my wife has a small heat gun for crafting ,but i think a hairdryer should work just keep moving around the lcd display until the screen goes black You can get the small clips like you used in your video from B&M or poundstretcher 20 clips for 79p - £1.20 a tub It worked on my 10 year old Display unit. Thanks a lot. I was still a little doubtful, but after executing the procedure I recovered a perfect screen (and realized why my settings were completely off. I just did skip the last step - the screen was too tightly fit in the transparent plastic layer, so I applied heat without separating them.

I had a go too and after a few attempts I figured out it was the plastic ribbon cable coming away from the circuit board. Once the glass screen is flipped up off the white backing. Behind the white backing is where the cable is stuck to the circuit board running my finger across this to stick it back down fixed the issue. I think the heating and clapping probably achieves the same effect.

reactivating the conductive adhesive to the LCD is really clever! I wonder if a reflow oven set to a low temperature would be a safer method to accomplish this. (lots of youtube video's on diy reflow :) )

Hello - !! and thank you again! I don't know if you could tell us somethign about this. if the LCD display of a sound stereo was exposed to the heat and light of the sun, supposedly it has suffered "birning" and the images or texts are vanished, incomplet, areas... ya know. here you add heat (00)! and it works, of course with the display I say the heat damaged it (and the light and the sun ya know) as I imagine. do you have some knowlede about this kind of failures? repair or am I wrong if it was the sun? ( some person said the reason is the Cold Soldings caused the display donesn't shows the info correctlyo or sharp, I don't think so).

I’ve tried your technique to fix mine, but it didn’t work. When I press on any of the panel buttons the screen goes blank. I then have to shake it to get the screen back which is very annoying. Anyone got ideas what the problem could be? The digital display is perfect otherwise..

This was down to me and my cleaning of the back of these buttons with contact cleaner, I am a fool!!! in doing this I cleaned off the conductive coating, yes I know I am fool!! However I managed to repair these with an HB pencil rubber over the button suface, so all good. Might be worth adding a note to your video warning about this.
