Those shots of Denali are excellent. I made a trip from NYC to Alaska in 1996. Took a month to drive there, spent 1 month just driving around and then a month to drive back to NYC. When I wanted to see Denali, it was covered in clouds. Drove up the Haul Road to Deahhorse and since there were no public gas stations there, just gas companies, had to beg one of them to fill up my tank. Fantasitc trip, loved every minute, even the mosquitios.

And getting thicker by the day. It’s good that the ice is forming thick before the first snows. When that occurs the snow insulates, the ice forms more slowly and the weight of the snow presses down and splits the ice causing overflow. A layer of mushy wet snow which is very dangerous.

Majestic views AND comic relief 😂. But seriously Edmund, I have so many questions. Have you considered doing a Q&A? Maybe answering questions as you do chores? I'm in the country on Vancouver Island and even with Telus Hub it takes me like 2 hours to upload a video. You have a very good eye for filming, where did you learn, or are you self taught? Thanks, Adelina

I’ll answer questions in my videos as they come in. Maybe I’ll do a Q&A video one day if there are enough questions. I am having to answer the same questions over and over already so maybe soon. Just found your channel and am really enjoying it. How far from other folks do you live?
@MountainMariner9 ай бұрын
I’m not sure who is the closest “neighbor” that lives out there year round anymore. Far as I know I’m the only one in about a ten mile radius.

What was the latest on the bear? Were you able to harvest it?
@MountainMariner Жыл бұрын
The bear is MIA. The shot was far back as I didn’t want to hit my ATV. I looked for almost ten hours and found no blood either.

Seems like alaska is all about logistics. That and everything taking 5x as long compared to about anywhere else

It takes awhile to get things up to the 49th State. My sea, then mountain life adds to the complexities.

I have mild autism so if I seem enthusiastic it's why I'm not stupid. So are you flying that helicopter because that's amazing. It must be so awful using a outhouse in the winter oh that gives me the shivers. I don't feel well tonight so I'm going to watch some of your videos You don't have to respond to me just ignore me, That's what most people do.lol
@MountainMariner Жыл бұрын
I don’t fly the helicopter, just charter it for flights in and out. The outhouse isn’t so bad. Thanks for watching and enjoy!

I take that’s McKinley in the background of those aerial shots?
@MountainMariner Жыл бұрын
Yes. It went from Denali to McKinley and now back to Denali. It stands proudly dwarfing my “Mount Ed.” 🤣

Sorry, I’m new. Is there a video about the back story, like how it all started, did you buy the land, or is it family owned for years?
@MountainMariner Жыл бұрын
Hmmm. Not really. I’ll have to make a video on the background story. I bought the cabin and land.
@Jasonrcsd10 ай бұрын
@@MountainMariner yes please make a backstory video or do a video where you answer the most asked questions. I'm curious how long you've lived this lifestyle etc. Has your snowmobiles, ATVs ever broke down and left you stranded? When you go to the bathroom at night do you light your path up like a Christmas tree or do you just use a flashlight to see the wildlife?

I’m not American, I have a question, since this is up north right.. what is it like when it’s summer?
@MountainMariner Жыл бұрын
Summer is short (July-August) and lots of mosquitoes. Unless you live on top of a mountain with a nearly constant breeze!

Welcome home. It will take a few days to get your land brain up and running. Take care until then. 911 is not an option!
@MountainMariner Жыл бұрын
Definitely. 911 is not a good option in remote Alaska. But if I had to die somewhere I’d rather die here than in a hospital bed in a city.

You're not a dumbass You're not very nice to yourself. I think you're awesome. That's the only problem with being off grid by yourself you have to think of everything and sometimes we forget and that's okay.

Do you well this is going to be stupid but I'm being serious. Do you miss talking to people? I would want to feel by myself but I wouldn't want to feel isolated I'm not a fan of people but I wouldn't want to be that alone. I'm going to guess that you don't have cell phone reception? You must have internet? Can you Skype or whatever they're doing these days. No more questions I'm done. Scott

I talk to plenty of people at work for the month there. Then I get a month off. Plus I can always talk to myself out here. It’s almost like I have ESP because I always know what I’m going to say! lol.

A fine episode!I could watch hours and hours of these videos.Glad u didnt die on the ice back there xD.In Finland we have this sayin that 3cm(1.2inch) ice is enough to carry a hungry fisher man and 4cm can carry a dog xD I love the element of danger in your daily life, inspirided by you i will now carry my gas air pellet pistol(Dan Wesson 8inch replica.air pellet) when winter comes and im doing firewood in the forest with the snowmobile, though no real threats here i guess.xD We spotted some lynx marks only 30meters from our yard 5days ago when the first snow did fall.
@MountainMariner Жыл бұрын
Good thing I have plenty of food at the cabin and no dog! Lol. The ice is quite thick and safe (?) but it’s still eerie walking on such clear ice. Be careful with the pellet pistol, you’ll shoot your eye out!

Awesome location, great setup!! Have you ever thought about a Ham radio setup? You could setup an NVIS antenna that would reach easily 300 miles. Prolly a DX setup would work awesome from that location too! You have Starlink or something like it? Great videos by the way. I live in Kenai.
@MountainMariner Жыл бұрын
No starlink. My cell phones get great 5G connection here. I also don’t have any plans for a HAM radio setup right now but maybe in the future.
