It's so perfect because the laugh itself is the joke, it's really like a kind of laugh that seems specific to the character, like the laugh would being to that man, and not just any laugh a certain kind of laugh that imply so much

after watching all these perfectly executed clips i always think how do they decide who plays which character because i can't think of fry doing the employee character or laurie doing the boss character or vice versa in any other sketch. It fits everytime in every sketch they've made.

I think that it doesn't matter. Fry and Laurie each put their own spin on the character so effectively that they seem made for the part, and if they had been switched you always would've said that was the only way you could imagine it. That's what a good actor is.

This is from Season 3 (Episode 3) of Fry and Laurie (1992) which was filmed a few years after Blackadder Goes Forth (1988). The episode has a few skits about Thatcher's resignation too which dates it to the early 90s not late 80s.

I know AND we actually sat in open planned offices or,sometimes,the Boss had their own room and we COMMUNICATED with each other verbally and made eye contact.No mobile phones or Computers .No texts or E-Mails.Just given folders or wrote letters and used the phone where a PERSON answered..etc and it was great.Usually we had great banter and often became lifelong friends. I still see nearly all my main 8 colleagues scatterred all over England for a drink-up every couple of years from the 1970's !
