Interesting stuff Fud never pretended to be a fitter of any sort someone tells me what to do I love getting my hands dirty even at 56. Good to see the internals of tractors I just checked the oil and water and jumped on and drove. Great vid.

It's 5/8 X 18 for the turbo filter and the normal Perkins engine one is 3/4 x 16. You probably know already, but the Fram cross reference for the turbo filter is LF607. Thanks for watching.

I have to go back and watch other videos because I think I missed something as to how that manifold preheater and excess fuel system works. I used one of those locking grease couplings for the first time last fall, worked great. Looks like you had a meeting of the minds, I’m sure it was for the exchange of ideas and knowledge. I remember having some of those 30 years ago standing around motorcycles.

I'm in Southern Victoria Australia, not sure if they were the same in the UK but the first Massey Ferguson 165 came out with, I think the same engine which was in the 65, it had the exhaust on the left, like the one you are working on and I think that was 58hp, then they replaced it with the 62hp version and it had the exhaust on the right side, that one is very popular down here, I know a farmer who had 2 of them with cabins in the 1970s and 1980s, just wondering, are you going to paint this one?
@ClarenceFudWeasel
@ClarenceFudWeasel 2 жыл бұрын
That's correct, the early ones were fitted with the 4.203 engine and the later ones with a short stroke version of the 4.236, the 4.212. I wasn't planning on painting the 165 because it's going to be a working tractor and the paintwork tells a story. The 175 however I want to do a factory restoration.

Keep slogging away, I am sure it will fall into place. It might pay you to give 590 a clean behind the reservoir now it's off. Don't pay any heed to that young pup you share the shed with, they are jealous of our skills, they never lived through the era and wouldn't know shite from clay if we didn't show them. (Tell him Jim in NZ said so)

I've always been told to use engine oil in the power steering system on our MFs in case the seal between the pump and the engine fails, would this cause any damage to the tractor?
@ClarenceFudWeasel
@ClarenceFudWeasel 2 жыл бұрын
It won't do any harm to use engine oil, it just has slightly different viscosity characteristics than ATF, and the steering will be a bit stiffer on a cold morning.
